The war between Russia and Ukraine does not seem over. Moreover, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin is sure, the war will continue until the Ukrainian stop the resistance. The condition of the two countries has an impact on global energy supply considering that Russia is the 4th largest crude oil producing country in the world with exports reaching 7.4 million barrels per day in 2020.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA) released data on March 6th, which showed that gasoline prices across the US jumped to a record high of US$4,009 per gallon or up to 45% of the price from US$2.76 per gallon compared to last year in the same period. AAA said that the Russia-Ukraine conflict triggered a spike in world oil prices, as well as fueled an increase in gasoline prices in the US. If the US and other western countries continue to impose economic and trade sanctions on Russia it will escalate the global supply crisis and further boost oil prices.
Fuel Oil in Indonesia The increase of fuel oil due to the impact of this conflict also occurs in Indonesia. The increase occurred in Pertamax Turbo, Pertamax Dexlite, and Pertamax Dex. The three of them increased from range Rp 500 to Rp 1000 per liter. Coal as War Impacts Energy Market The Simmering tensions between Russia and Ukraine has prompted the rise of world commodity prices mainly is the price of crude oil. The rise in crude oil this can have an impact to other commodities such as CPO and Coal. On March 8th, it is known that the price of Brent oil increase to 62% and the price of coal up to 150% compared to the last year despite of being on the same period. Based on ministry of Energy and Human Resources Indonesia (ESDM- Energi dan Sumber Daya Manusia), The price of coal has reached US$ 203,69 Per Ton or increased by U$D 15,31 per ton compared with the month of February, which was US$ 188.38 per ton. According to the Head of the Bureau of Communication, Public Information Service, and cooperation (Layanan Informasi Publik, dan Kerja Sama- KLIK) of ESDM, Agung Pribadi in Jakarta, Russia is one of the largest gas producers in the world. Thus, the existence of such conflicts leads to the occurrence of gas supply constraints in Europe. So as European Countries began to switch to coal as an energy source.
Based on this situation, Chairman of the Association of Suppliers of Energy and Coal of Indonesia (ASPEBINDO), Dr. Anggawira, MM said it was possible that coal prices could continue to rising with the increasing demand, but the stock is still limited. And this can be a very good opportunity for coal suppliers in Indonesia. But we also need to have a great strategy, not only suppliers, but also from the Government. We should not immediately be tempted to export, but should make domestic needs as the main concern.
