neighborhood mothers bought us soap and encouraged us to soap each others windows, Oh what a blast we had! Until, the next day we found out that our mothers were all in cahoots and for our punishment we had to clean all the windows as our mothers sat on the porch, drinking coffee while getting there windows washed for free! my absolute most favorite time of the year! Fall and my favorite holiday of all time! Halloween, Halloween falls on the evening before the Christian holy days of All Hallows Eve also known as All Saints day. The word Halloween dates back to about 1745, it comes from a Scottish term All Hallows Eve. In Scottish, the word eve is even, and this is contracted to e’en or een. Over time, (All) Hallow (S) E (V) en evolved in Halloween. Hum who knew? Now you do!! Devils Night is the night before Halloween and dates back as early as the 1940’s. Traditionally, youths engaged in a night of criminal behavior which usually consisted of acts of vandalism (such as egging, soaping or waxing windows and doors, leaving rotten vegetables or flaming bags of animal feces on front porch stoops, or toilet papering trees and shrubs). These were almost exclusively acts of petty vandalism, causing little to no property damages.
