“OLYMPIA”
Sedalia, CO
ARCH 3100 Fall 2023
Prof. Jeff Shi
Team: Olivia Hayes & Julianne Ramsey
No architecture precedes this Working Horse Museum featuring a full Equestrian Center and Research Academy. The only work of art that comes close is The Living Museum of the Horse in Chantilly, France, where much of the inspiration for a classical approach was derived. “Olympia” campus seamlessly blends themes of tradition, grandeur, and polo excellence with modern ideals such as state-of-the-art research into how we might further foster the human-horse connection well into the future. Classical facades harbor modern, curious floor plans as a symbol of the deep history we share with equine and all that the future holds between humans and horses.

The Denver Polo Club envisioned an exceptional facility to complement an indoor polo arena. These stables were designed to not only provide comfortable accommodations for the equine athletes but also to offer convenient amenities for the staff. The inclusion of hay storage ensured the horses' nutritional needs were met, while tack rooms allowed for organized storage of equipment essential for the sport. The addition of lofted living quarters for a staff of two underscored the club's commitment to providing on-site support and care for the horses. With attention to both equine and human needs, the Denver Polo Club's stables epitomized the marriage of functionality and luxury in equestrian facilities.
