It is an Amstrad 8512 w hich at the moment is handling the Federation's accounts and finances and member ship records. M r Richm ond is no stranger to the intricacies of computers as he worked with them in Israel. Consideration is being given to extending the use of computerisation to other facets of the Federation's w ork.

ver the last few w eeks, several butchers and the world-renowned restauranteur and meat-products m an ufacturer and supplier, Bloom's, have relinquished their London Board for Shechita licences and have becom e licencees of the Joint Shechita Authority of the Federation of Synagogues. The butchers are Stewart Cohen, trading as La Boucherie in East Barnet, S. Cohen of Clapton, Norman Goldberg, of Ilford, Ivor Silverman of Stanmore, Louis Mann of Edgware, G.Kreeger of Barnet, and Ilford Kosher Meats. Lewis & Co, wholesale poulters of Bow, now also holds our licence. This has given the Federation the oppor tunity to set up shechita at Canvin Interna tional's abattoir at Cardington, Bedford shire, and as a result, prices of kosher meat in these shops and wholesale, through Blooms who are acting as wholesaler-dis tributors, have dropped considerably. The butchers concerned decided to make their move, not only to reduce the price of kosher meat to the public, but also to main tain supplies which in recent years, have not always been reliable, due to many fac tors, although not the fault of any particular individuals. Mr Morris Lederman, President of the Federation of Synagogues, told "Hamaor" that the Federation had no option but to continue its own shechita. Talks, he said, had taken place between the Federation and the London Board for Shechita, and they produced proposals which would have led to unity. But these proposals were not acceptable to the Dayanim of the London Beth Din.

Mr Lederman said categorically, that the President of the London Board for Shechita and his colleagues were earnestly trying to bring about a peaceful solution, but they did not find the support they wanted. "Our Shechita Authority has always been

New Federation Shechita Moves Bring Down Prices! and still is, prepared to co-operate with all other Orthodox communal bodies in all fields, on a basis of full reciprocal recogni tion, for the benefit of London Jewry," he said, adding that the Authority was in a pos ition to provide the necessary facilities for supplying kosher meat and kosher meat products to all its licencees and the fact that there was now an additional wholesaler in the trade was bound to ensure cheaper supplies in the shops. The Federation's Rosh Beth Din, Dayan Z .j. Alony, said that all the meat supervised by the Federation's Shechita Authority was now Clatt Kosher. Their staff at the abattoir, he stressed, was more than sufficient in numbers to meet the demands of the pre sent licencees. When more butchers became .licenced, the Authority would employ more shochetim and bodekim.
