Celebrating 27 Years of Service

2022 Annual Report

A Christian Outreach Ministry working to transform lives in our community by providing critical care for physical, spiritual, civic and social needs.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends,

In 2022 The Source celebrated 27 years of service to our community. While we began as a place that offered emergency meals to those in need, we’ve grown to take a broader view of ending homelessness in our community.

Through expanded services, a wider reach and an unwavering commitment to developing and operating programs and services with greater impact, we now offer life-changing opportunities to homeless individuals in Indian River County and beyond.

This year we have added a second Dignity Bus to serve individuals in Indian River County, renovated a third Dignity Bus, added several local dentists to our Dignity Smiles Program, received funding for a third food truck, created a new program called Dignity Wellness to serve the mental health needs of our members and completed the final stages of preparing Dignity Village to open.

In the pages that follow you will read about important programs and services, as well as plans for the future and the impact we are having on individuals whose lives unraveled resulting in homelessness. This impact could not have been accomplished without you, our generous donors, partners and volunteers. As you read through this report we hope you will feel good about the work we are doing to help the homeless and poor get back on their feet.

We deeply appreciate your commitment to support The Source as we continue to help those that need help the most. Together we are changing

Our Impact

Established twenty-seven years ago, The Source was founded in response to the escalating homelessness crisis in Indian River County. Since then, we have evolved into a beacon of hope for the homeless and vulnerable, with an expanded vision and advanced programs that made us a leader in the field of transforming lives. Our comprehensive programs empower our clients to become self-reliant and live meaningful lives.

Our unwavering commitment provides hope and a wide range of support services to those in need. We aim to assist individuals in achieving their maximum potential for selfsufficiency, enabling them to lead more gratifying and fulfilling lives.

Over One Million* Free Meals Served

• We serve three free hot meals daily

• The first made-to-order menu

• 31,489 meals served in 2022

* Over one million meals served since we opened 27 years ago

Dignity Food Trucks offer students hands-on experience using their culinary skills. The food trucks are geared to selling award-winning food at community events, in response to natural disasters (food relief) with made-to-order foods at specific locations and routine stops. With two food trucks in operation, culinary students receive additional training and gain confidence working with the public.

Wellness Wellness

On the road to mental health...

The Source will manage mental health counseling for the Dignity Wellness Program, offering daily mental health services, community outreach, and education to reduce stigma. Mental Health First Aid training will be provided, and the program aims to help individuals achieve employment mobility and mental well-being. The Source helps individuals out of homelessness with options and alternatives.

Dignity Catering provides a catering service to local businesses, schools, churches and/or community event. A daily menu is available, or one can be created specifically for private functions or event planning. Culinary students gain hands-on training while interacting with the public.

Dignity Smiles provides free dental restoration to eligible Dining with Dignity graduates. Proper dentistry makes all of the difference with their confidence and employability. The Source partnered originally with Dr. Sadesh Kumar, founder of Wickham Dental Care in Melbourne, FL and Thomas Balshi, DDS, PhD, FACP, Stephen Balshi PRESIDENT. In 2022 we added: Dr. Claudia Pryszlak, DMD; Dr. Ramon Hernandez, DMD; Dr. Adam Jones, DMD, MS; Dr. Giuliana Diaz Jones, DDS; and Denise M. Pieczynski, D.M.D.

Josh one of our Dining with Dignity graduates received his ID and passed his Food Handler Serv Safe exam making him State Certified to handle food.

Even though this is Brian’s second time in Dining with Dignity, this is his first time passing his Serv Safe exam. He is now certified to work anywhere in Florida that serves food.

This was John’s first time in 9 years to regain his ID and social security card. This will allow him to have the required documents to gain employment after graduation from the Dining with Dignity Program.

At The Source, we take pride in celebrating family reunions. Throughout the past year, we’ve assisted several families in reuniting, whether it involved purchasing a bus or plane ticket, or simply making the effort to reach out and bring loved ones together.

Chris graduated our 12-week program. We worked with Chris to find him the right job. Our program is not a one size fits all and we adapt and adjust to meet people where they are and walk beside them and lift them up.

Trina is one of our top Sic Sac® producers and earned our distinguished “Top Producer” award. The ability to work for Sic Sac® enables our members to have a dignified income.
