WRITER AND DIRECTO’S NOTES

WRITER AND DIRECTO’S NOTES

Bob Cunningham Writer/DIRECTOR

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Celebrations Dinner Theatre produced a fun Star Wars parody called Star Warz: A Galactic Rock Comedy. Since Hollywood keeps making Star Wars movies we thought, hey let’s do another parody farce! Welcome to Star Warz 2: The Farce Strikes Back! This time we take our silly comedic look at the “dark side” of the force. Many of the classic characters are back, along with a couple new friends. The Star Warz gang are once again rocking out to the hits of 70s and 80s while dancing like they’ve never danced before… Bob Cunningham except for Darth Vader… Vader don’t dance! As always, it has been a pleasure to work with the amazing Celebrations Dinner Writer / Director Theatre team to make this show happen. From an amazing production team making truly magical experiences, to the fantastic in-house team of characters making each night an interactive and unique experience. I hope you all have as much fun watching as we do creating! Sit back, enjoy the show and… May the farce be with you! Cheers,

Bob Cunningham

randy Apostle* ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Hello folks, welcome to our next intergalactic adventure! It is always great fun to pay our own special tribute to blockbuster film franchises that have been viewed and enjoyed by so many people all over the world. Of course, these types of shows require much work by many talented artists and it is always a pleasure to see the magic they create, beginning with our writer and director for this one, Mr. Bob Cunningham. Over the years Bob has written and directed many shows and the “Star Warz” genre is one of his favourites! I give many thanks as always to our incredible production team… the set is amazing, the soundscape thrilling, the costumes spot on, the lighting superb, the music is rocking, the vocal direction is great, the choreography is terrific and the cast are all wonderful and hard-working! I also send my thanks to all the fine staff at Celebrations for their tireless work on each and every show! Thank you to Canadian Actor’s Equity Association and of course a big thanks to our General Partners, Janet Cunningham and Doug Stephen. I hope you all enjoy the show and I thank you for you many years of laughter and support!

Celebrations Dinner

Story

In case you are a new visitor to Celebrations, you may be interested in a little information about our group. Where did Celebrations come from? Although not a new idea, the Celebrations concept is unique in today’s theatre. It combines a three act musical comedy with a twist and a four course dinner. We ask our audience to immerse themselves in our world. Whether we’re at an old west saloon or on the bridge of a futuristic starship, we invite the audience to play along by being an actual part of our environment for a few hours. Our goal – fun for the entire family. We currently have three dinner theatres in operation, our sister theatres, Jubilations in Edmonton, and our newest venture, Jubilations in Calgary is also home to “Aussie Rules”, a very exciting rockin’, dueling piano bar. Our owners, Janet Cunningham and Doug Stephen would like to welcome you to Celebrations, Winnipeg’s most exciting dinner theatre and are pleased to present our current production.  So sit back and enjoy a tasty four course dinner while our cast of characters amuse you with tableside banter.

Corey Beaulieu Hand Solo

Hailing from Vancouver, Corey has been a performer and a nerd from a young age and now those two worlds will culminate together in tonight’s performance like a storm of honey and lightning as Star Wars meets musical comedy. Portraying one of his favourite fictional characters is an experience like no other for Corey. He is excited to play everyone’s beloved handsome scoundrel for you tonight once again in this sequel to 2016’s Star Warz: A Galactic Rock Comedy. When Corey is not acting in a scripted stage or screen performance, he loves to stretch his improv muscles in a weekly improvised soap opera full of laughs and drama. And if you are a fan of Twitch.tv, be sure to catch him playing and entertaining you at twitch.tv/badgersolo. So relax and may you enjoy his performance tonight as the man who shot first! And to Kesinee...I know.

Kesinee Haney Princess Leia

Kesinee is a singer, actor, and dancer originally from Calgary, AB, and is currently residing in Vancouver after five years of living in New York City. Kesinee is absolutely over the moon to be reprising her role of Princess Leia in her third Celebrations show. She could not be more proud to be sharing the stage with this incredible cast of stars warriors! You may have also seen her as Princess Leia in Star Warz: A Galactic Rock Comedy, or as Jane in Elvis and the Las Vegas Hangover. When she’s not on the Celebrations stage, she has been seen in things like Uh-Oh!: A YTV Burlesque with Wink Yahoo (Geekenders), playing Jennifer in How I Met My Mother: A Back to the Future Musical (Geekenders), or playing Lieutenant Litzche in the off-Broadway production of Sea Legs: A Nautical New Musical. Thank you to Bob, Randy, the whole crew and artistic team who made this show possible, and to my beloved friends and family who continue to support me and my dreams every single day. Now please, sit back, relax, hop onto the Millennium Falcon and let us take you to a galaxy far, far away. And to my wonderful partner Corey...I know.

Miranda Niehaus Ray

I am thrilled to be invited back for my second show with Celebrations playing the part of Ray – I mean, what 21-year old girl doesn’t want to have her own lightsabre and save the galaxy, right!? (yeah I see you nodding!) I am a graduate of the Victoria School of Performing Arts in Edmonton, and have had the opportunity to perform as a vocalist at K-Days and Big Valley Jamboree. You may remember me as Piper in Orange is the New Pink. Other credits include Oliver! (Fagan’s Gang), CATS (Macavity/Plato) and West Side Story (Anybody’s). I want to thank Randy and Bob, for believing in me and for allowing me to bring my energy to the Celebrations stage (and I have a lot of it!) and my fellow cast mates and crew for their support. I hope you find tonight’s show out of this world!

Harrison Bentley

C3P0/Commander Karl

Hello, I am Harrison Bentley, actor-audience relations. It is a pleasure to have you here joining us tonight, and I hope you enjoy our presentation. In my spare time I have appeared on stage with Front Row Center players, Storybook Theater, and other companies back home in Calgary. If you have ventured out to Calgary, you may have seen me in such shows as: The Pajama Game – featured ensemble, Legally Blonde – Dewey/Kyle, Grease – Johnny Casino, The Mystery of Edwin Drood – Nick Cricker Jr./Deputy. With all this experience, I am fluent in over 6,000,000 forms of messing up the English language. Have fun rocking out with us in space and remember not to trust any strange computers.

Michael o’Keefe

Darth Vader/Steve Bacca Welcome to the Death Star! I am honoured to be back for my third tour with this amazing company. I previously portrayed the roles of: street wise candy dealer, Tootsie Roll, and dancing momma’s boy, Norbert, in Hey, Pretty Woman. Followed by love struck music therapist, Man Bun, in Orange is the New Pink. Now I have the pleasure of playing ace pilot, Steve Bacca, and one of the most iconic villains of all time, Darth Vader, for tonight’s performance. If you had told 8 year old me that he would grow up and get to play Darth Vader professionally, he would have said, “yeah obviously, I pretend to be him every time I’m talking into a fan.” 8 year old me had too big of an ego and was wrong about most things, but alas, this time he was right. Needless to say this is a dream come true, and to be surrounded by such an amazing cast, crew and ad-cast really does make this experience out of this world! Oh yeah! Space puns! Now sit back, and leave your worries at the door. For tonight, they are in a galaxy far far away.

Aimée Beaudoin* Darth Tiffany/Beth

Aimée has been acting professionally on stage and screen for a long, long time in many different galaxies. This is her sixth show with Celebrations. Aimée has had the pleasure of being in Comedy Night in Canada, Pirates of the North Saskatchewan II, The Big Boom Theory 2, Oh Boy Buddy Holly and Hey Pretty Woman. She also co-wrote three shows for Celebrations, That’s Dirty Dancing, Hey Pretty Woman, and Orange is the New Pink. You can watch Aimée on the small screen as well. She stars in the sketch comedy TV series CAUTION: May Contain Nuts (APTN) where she plays many different characters.Check it out, PVR it, it’s pretty funny!Aimée has also appeared on television in Hell on Wheels (AMC), Tiny Plastic Men (Superchannel) and Wynonna Earp (Syfy).Aimée is overjoyed to work with this extremely talented cast and her sweetheart Michael.Big love to her Mom, Grandma and Lizzie. The force runs strong in those three. “I don’t want life to imitate art, I want life to be art” - Carrie Fisher *The participation of these Artists are arranged by permission of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association under the provisions of the Dance, Opera, Theatre Policy.

Schedule

August 11, 2018 – October 6, 2018

HERE WE GO AGAIN!

MORE

ly’s ol H y d d Bu

Join us for a celebration of the wonderful music of ABBA, and other classic bands of the era, as we tell another tale of love lost, love found and love rediscovered. Let’s take a step back to the crazy 70s when our characters first met and see how lifelong friendships began.

OCTOBER 13, 2018 – JANUARY 12, 2019

It’s great to be alive, in the summer of ’65… unless you’re Chris “Babe” Gardiner that is. You see Chris (Babe to those who know him) has to spend the best weeks of the summer with his parents at some boring resort. To add to Babe’s lament, his mother has even signed him up for dance lessons. Babe’s fortunes start to turn however, when he meets his beautiful dance instructor. Can the boy from a stuffy, upper crust family learn to let go and dance like no one is watching? Celebrations Dinner Theatre presents More Dirty Dancing!

January 19, 2019 – March 23, 2019 Ritchie, Fonzie and the gang have another wacky night when they mistake the “new friend” Big Al brings in as the musical act, to be the notorious “singing bandit” they have all heard about in the news. They hatch a plan to catch him redhanded and save the diner…only to discover it is Mr. Buddy Holly himself!
