Petition Against Increasing the Number of Seats in the House of Commons Whereas the USA has maintained its number of members in its House of Representatives since 1911 despite a population increase of over 200%; Whereas the Government has not justified the need to increase the number of MPs from 308 to 338; Whereas the increase in 30 MPs will cause significant additional costs for taxpayers to bear each year; Whereas there are other urgent needs to be met including but not limited to: protecting senior pensions, providing more bedside nurses and implementing community policing; We, the undersigned residents of Canada call upon all current Members of Parliament to maintain the size of the House of Commons at 308 MPs.
