Oxford Community Garden holds monthly Work Day BY CHANING GREEN NEWS WRITER
A lot of work goes in to keeping up a garden. Weeding, cleanup, harvesting, tool upkeep and a lot of other chores were taken care of yesterday morning during the one of the Oxford Community Garden monthly Work Days. Work Days take place on the first Saturday of every month and those with plots in the garden are required to attended a minimum of three Work Days throughout the they year. Periodically, the garden organizers invite the community to join in on the Work Days in order to gain a better understanding of the garden and all that they do. Tiffany Bensen is a biology instructor at the University of Mississippi and serves as the volunteer garden manager for the Oxford Community Garden. She

son in charge of the communal spaces around the garden. For example, the pathways between the plots must be maintained. The hedges that line the garden have to be kept in line, and the shared tools must be kept up to working order and much more. One of the major things that get’s accomplished during Work Days is that the plots reserved for food donations are tended to and harvested. The Oxford Community has certain plots dedicated solely to the benefit of the Oxford Food Pantry. A specific team of people at the garden tends to the community harvest plots to make sure that everything is kept looking nice and orderly, but they occasionally need a little help. There are a variety of tasks that must be completed in order for the garden to funcTURN TO OXFORD PAGE 7
