Brothers Mac Waldrop and Hugh Waldrop, who are age 2 and 4 in this picture are enjoying their toys outside the family’s home when they lived in Jackson, Mississippi in 1934. Their parents were Dalton, who was a fireman for the city of Jackson and Ruth Waldrop. Their siblings are Virginia Stephens, R.J. Waldrop, Jean W. Hopson and Rudell W. Graham who is deceased. Mac is now 90 years old and Hugh is 92. The Waldrops lived in Thaxton.

The first Homecoming Queen at North Pontotoc High School was crowned in October of 1972. Rochelle Hawkins was crowned by senior class president and football player Don McCarver. North Pontotoc fielded its first football team in 1971 but no homecoming festivities were held. At the start of the school the new building was not finished so students continued to attend classes in buildings at Ecru, Hurricane and Thaxton. Don and Rochelle are first cousins, born two days apart.

This is the Bolton Drug Store that was located on what is now Liberty street in the building where the Cornelison Law firm is located. The store was owned by Col. Richard Bolton, the sign was painted by Erasmus McDowell. The horse and buggy out from belonged to Col. Bolton. The little wooden building in the left hand side of the photo, which is north of the drug store belonged to the silver smith and the building to the south was a saloon.

You can almost hear the train whistle blowing when you look into this old photo of the Algoma depot back in the day when railroad ties were shaped all over the world from the little hamlet of Algoma. The train tracks have been taken up and the railroad bed is part of the Tanglefoot Trail® these days, but once upon a time, the sound of steel wheels clikkity clacking down the narrow tracks could still be heard while the engine puffed to a steamy halt.
