Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell signs balls for children at the EMS football camp at FNC Park.

Giving back OM's Treadwell a hit with local campers BY JOHN DAVIS SPORTS EDITOR

A line of people half a football field long was the first thing to take in Saturday evening at FNC Park. Behind a net, sitting down at a table, sat Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, signing footballs by the dozen. Parents of children wearing his jersey stopped to take pictures with their phones as their sons signed in to take part in the Everett Sports Marketing football camp. Treadwell, less than a month from being selected in the 2016 NFL Draft, was the focal point of the evening, and the biggest reason for the large turnout. Dan Everett organized the camp that also featured instruction from area high school and college coaches. A total of 200 kids took part in the

camp, a turnout that is larger than normal. Treadwell didn't take a dime for his time, and 80 kids who couldn't afford the camp were able to attend and learn the fundamentals of the game. “This camp has been open for registration for four weeks and it's a sold-out camp. Thanks to Laquon, there are 80 on scholarship,” Everett said adding he just met Treadwell an hour and a half before the camp. “He responds to everything. He's a faith based guy and you look at his social media and you see that so much of it is about character. His faith is important, so he's excellent role model for these kids.” As soon as Treadwell found out that there would be a charge for the camp, he made sure to let Everett know he wanted to donate his time.

“I wanted to give back. Growing up, I had plenty of camps around the neighborhood I couldn't pay for,” he said. “I knew the leverage that I had and I wanted to make it possible for anybody to come. I don't think they should be charging to come see me. I wanted to give back and show my appreciation.” This is the eighth season that Everett has been putting on the camps, and last spring he did one with former Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace. Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott was also the focal point of a camp earlier this year in Starkville. There were 10 stations for the campers to go through and the event lasted four hours overall. “Dak and Laquon's camps are the biggest ones we will have all year,” Everett said. “Our average camp is about

120 kids, so 200 is a big camp. This park is incredible. I've never been here before and sometimes when you to parks and rec, you might have a sand lot. One of my guys on staff said this place looks like a golf course.” Treadwell started playing football at age 10 and everything he learned came from the coaches similar to those instructing at the camp. “They taught me to take it seriously, the discipline. They showed me how to block, do the little things right and then you kind of take over with your natural ability,” Treadwell said. “That's kind of how it ended up for me. I didn't start going to camps until the bigger ones, the recruiting ones and the ones that you get the stars off of. Once I went out and TURN TO TREADWELL PAGE 5
