Lighting Contest Winners Announced
The Leon Lions Club along with the Leon Chamber of Commerce, sponsored their annual home Christmas lighting contest. The judges traveled around the City of Leon last Friday, December 15, checking out the interesting and festive displays. The home of James and Jerry Cunningham was chosen as 1st, Danny and Karla Hill received 2nd and Scott and Amanda Risius received 3rd.

Day of Hallmark in Leon If you were around Leon last Saturday, you would have felt you were living in a Hallmark movie. The day full of events began with the Leon Noel at the Central Decatur High School. The Central Trail FFA members organized this Leon Noel event which served 431 meals Saturday. They also handed our 50 Holiday Meals which were provided by Decatur County Cattlemen's. Santa and his elves also handed out over 100 stockings. The two hour event entertained many, young and old, with their reindeer games, along with mul-
tiple Christmas make and take tables of decorating ornaments, cookies, reindeer hot cocoa, reindeer crowns and others provided by many school clubs. After a short break for the youngins' to get in a nap, the Leon Community Theatre group put on an hour and half Christmas Show at SCIT Theatre that had you laughing until you were crying along with mixing in some Christmas carols assisted by the audience, that made your heart melt. Sheriff’s Santa (continued on page 12) Project
Donations will be accepted until December 22 for the Decatur County Sheriff’s yearly project of adopting up to 20 county families to receive gifts and food items to make Christmas a little brighter. Check the ad on page 12 for needed items.
Tales, Treats and Twinkle Lights
The Leon Library will be hosting Tales, Treats and Twinkle Lights at 6:00 p.m. December 21. All ages are welcome. Come in your jammies and enjoy holiday books, songs, cookie decorating and a visit from a surprise guest. Mr. and Mrs. Clause make early stop at the Christmas Lighted Parade.

Civil War Veteran Receives Long Awaited Head Stone Mike Rowley, Camp Commander of Grenville M. Dodge Camp #75, sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War located in Johnston was contacted by a great-grandson of Civil War Veteran Jacob Zimmerman who was buried in the Davis City Cemetery in February of 1901. Robert Setiz, the great-grandson was wondering if the grave might be marked after all these years. After obtaining the required documentation, getting approval from the city officials and the VA, the mission was accomplished last Thursday morning. Rowley, his son Tim and an 89 year old retired fire fighter, Bob Niffenegger, have installed over 300 stones on the graves of veterans from the Revolutionary War through Viet Nam in seven states.
