Why Is This Happening?

Fossil Fuel Consumption

consumption (TWh)

The table above shows the total global fossil fuel consumption from 1800 - 2022

The rapid increase in burning fossil fuels has significantly impacted our planet When the fuels are burnt, it sends greenhouse gasses up into our atmosphere that trap heat within it and make the planet hotter as a result

Transportation Emissions

Transport accounts for over a quarter of all carbon dioxide emissions produced. This alarming stat shows that there’s a serious crisis with transport and it’s impact on our planet

Deforestation

Consumer Goods

The main cause for all the surrounding statisics is consumer goods

Everything that we want, rather than need, uses a lot of green-house gas emissions to get

The pie charts above show the change in the amount of land taken up by forests, farms and wildland from 1900 - 2018

We are cutting down forests faster than they can regrow and producing more Co2 from the process. This effects global warming as trees breath in carbon dioxide that would have been sent into the atmosphere

Deforestation gathers materials for the product; the facories make the product; then the products are transported to somewhere where they can be sold

table beside shows

Agricultural Methane Emissions

Agriculture has a huge impact on the amount of green-house gasses produced. This is due to methane from livestock production. Although the change each year might not be a lot, that’s because it’s very high every year

The graph beside shows the difference in methane

What Can I Do About It?

Energy

Using renewable energy sources such as solar pannels can help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from regular sources of energy. LED lights are more energy efficant than regular ones and also last longer, reducing the need to buy more

Alternative Transportation

Using other modes of transportation such as walking or cycling can help reduce the Co2 produced from gas powered vehicles. Also, switching from a petrol car to an electric one can help reduce this as well

Not wasting food can go a long way to help stop global warming. When food rots in a landfill it produces a lot of methane, which is a strong greenhouse gas that gets trapped in the atmosphere

Recycling is a great way to help stop global warming. This is because it saves the energy and fossil fuel burning of extrracting new matterials It also helps to reduce waste and pollution
