This presentation was delivered at the Spring 2022 SCUP Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference hosted by UMass-Amherst. The learning outcomes of this session include:
1. Think fresh about the importance of the value of place as we return to campus.
Discuss integration of landscape, and the connection of outdoors/indoors with
revitalizing aging building stock.
2. Look anew on brutalist buildings, highlighting their importance to the campus
character by preserving their notable features and weighty personalities, while
modernizing aging infrastructure and transforming them to meet the needs of
today's students and faculty.
3. Discuss trends in student services, how consolidating resources, creating clear
program delineation, cross-training staff, and connecting to students drives
planning.
4. Lead conversations on diversity, equity, and inclusion, that go beyond traditional
measures to look at the impact of architectural character, the student experience,
and student service models.
