BIOGRAPHY I am an aspiring architect, studying at the Welsh School of Architecture in Cardiff. I am a determined character and aim to exceed what is expected of me. Through my work, I am keen to promote and encourage a stronger, healthier relationship between people and the built Ienvironment.amespecially interested in embracing the natural connection we have with raw materials and the benefits they can have on the progression of the construction industry towards the creation of an ecological, carbon-positive urban landscape. Climate change, inequality, disparities of opportunity, violence and environmental degradation are all interconnected problems challenging our society. The Global Dialogue Museum aims to involve society in the promotion of collective awareness by exhibiting people’s experience of climate change from all over the world. The museum utilizes kinetic tiles that generate electricity, when stepped upon, activating voice recordings. Speakers placed in museum modules create a space filled with stories of people from different countries, describing how they are affected by climate change. The modular design allows the structure to be erected in any location, providing a global network for dialogue.

This was a group project for an architectural competition by Museums for Climate Action called ‘Reimagining museums for climate action’ and achieved a place in the competition’s shortlist (see here: Creditconcepts/the-museum-as-dialogue).museumsforclimateaction.org/reimagine/https://www.-AleksandraBanas,CameronJones, Andrew McClements, Zsófi Veres New York City, USA Mumbai, India Morombe, Madagascar Cameron

SPIRITUALITYTHEOFMUSIC

This project celebrated the transcendent experience that can be experienced through musical performance in a context designed for the removal of distractions and the isolation of self. It was set in Llandaff, Cardiff, within the historic walls of the Old Bishop’s Palace - a Grade I listed gatehouse in close proximity to the Llandaff Cathedral. Christianity’s influence on the town is integral to the design of the theatre, where vertical openings and skylights play an important role in symbolising the illumination of mortals from the Deity above. This was a public project completed in the second semester of the second year of my course.Cameron

On the approach to the cafe, an outdoor foyer space leads the individual arround the gardens that sit within the Old Bishops Palace. Carefully positioned openings (inspired by the courtyard of the Biennele building in Italy) create spotlights that line the foyer, emphaisising the light that God shines upon us.

The concert hall is designed to give the audience a sense of ethereal lightness - to act as the purgatory space between heaven and earth. The lack of glazing gives the impression that the outside is far beyond reach and the unusual curvature creates an otherworldly volume that distorts reality, elevating the individual above their surroundings and into a truly spiritually connected atmosphere.

In a small dwelling, privacy is often a challenge. Even in a two person home, it is important that individuals have their own space. For that reason, one of the defining factors of this design is that it divides the home into clear functions for separate uses, in contrast with the standard micro-home typology. This ideology extends to the division between public and private areas. The home envisions utilising disused brownfield warehouse structures in the urban landscape to create a new symbiotic means of working and living. The public realm is envisaged such that the the inhabitants working and using the market place provide sustainable services to the local community whilst developing a strong community between themselves.

...rewrite the path of Merthyr’s history by chang ing their focus from industry driven economic growth to biodiverse sustainable growth ...educate people in the importance of biodiver sity in curbing global warming ...reinvolve the community in a collective activity that can act as a symbol of its strength and resiliance as a unit This was a monument primer project completed in the my first semester of my third year of architectural education.

This project aims more to change the perception of abandoned architecture, rather than to create it. This project is primarily a community gardens based within a structure in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales called the Miner’s Hall but is also a series of archways that leads people off the main highstreet and towards the forgotten gems of the towns past. This project aims to... ...rebrand the weeds that infiltrate the cracks of abandoned, crumbling buildings to wildflowers that harmoniously thread through the minor im perfections in our historical urban artifacts. ...reintergrate the community into the heart of the town by making the centre a more colourful and vibrant diverse place.

The archways start at the high street and guide people off towards Church Street and Miner’s Hall. The different typologies of the archways are made to represent the architectural development over time in Merthyr.

The community gardens are built such that they divide the natural garden that sits upon and around the pre-exisiting walls of the Miner’ Hall and the managed garden spaces with a masonry threshold structure. The fabric is perforated and reveals more of the outer environment as you climb up the structure, looking over the city and towards the Brecon Beacons National Park, symbolising the world’s need to favour and priories the natural environment through urban

Located in the Welsh town of Merthyr Tydfil (known as Merthyr), I have conceived and designed the Urban Wildlife Research Centre and Nature Reserve with the dual aims of reintroducing wildlife into the urban fabric and placing local ecological issues at the forefront of people’s lives.

This project is less about architecture than it is about paying attention to a world issue that, in modern times, is thoroughly neglected. We rely on the natural environment in everything that we do, the products that we use and everywhere that we go and yet we are not currently taking the steps needed to prevent the damage that we are creating.

The Urban Wildlife Research Centre and Nature Reserve is designed to encourage the general public’s wider appreciation and involvement in the natural world. By facilitating an office and laboratory space on the same site as an open public parkspace, people can view the ongoings of the laboratory’s development by indirectly passing it by on the way to the lake. The park engenders a wide ecology through two different means, managed and unmanaged vegetation. Managed vegetation gives the wider public a chance to have a physical connection with nature, while not damaging or altering its growth whereas unmanaged vegetation can’t be accessed by the public, allowing the permaculture to blossom without human interference.

The cafeteria has been designed around the re-landscaping of the site, such that it has been partially dug into the ground. Passersby access the cafeteria from where the roof line begins, creating an intriguing vertical relationship between the ground level and the vast pyramid roof structure. The cafeteria is designed to ‘bleed’ out into the parkspace, bringing the outdoors into the cafeteria and enriching the experience.

From Febuary to June 2022, I volunteered to help create the WSA Show Exhibition 2022. This has been a fantastic experience for me to develop my workshop, digital, and team work skills and I believe it has been a great success for demonstrating the breadth of work and the professionalism of the students at the Welsh School of Architecture. I prominently helped on the physical exhibition team which dealt with the design, production, arrangement, and curation of the work displayed and the frames they were held in. I was given the opportunity to held design a structure under a tight budget, use multiple woodworking tools and machines to help produce the frames, and help curate works into themes that represented the ultimate social or environmental issue the project was tackling. I was personally responsible for making a video documenting the process (found through this link: makesocialthen2LZ398&t=78s)whichhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awT-wasplayedattheendofevent.Alongsidethis,Ialsohelpedwiththemedia,awards,andeventsteamstohelpsureotheraspectsoftheexhibitionran smoothly.
