Inky’s Necklace

It is a sunny morning. Inky and Bee are in the garden. Inky proudly shows Bee her birthday present, a silver chain. It glitters in the sunlight. Suddenly, a magpie swoops to the ground, and grabs the chain.

“Stop!” shout Inky and Bee, but naughty magpie escapes with it. Bee flies after the magpie. Inky runs quickly along the road below her friend. She follows the magpie and Bee into the forest. She sees Bee at the bottom of a tall tree.

“ The nest is at the top of the tree,” pants Bee. “I can’t get the chain because the magpies are bigger than me.” At this moment, an empty nutshell lands beside Inky.

“I am sorry!” calls a squirrel from the tree.

“It doesn’t matter,” Inky replies. “Could you help us?” She explains that the magpie took her chain. The squirrel scampers nimbly up the tree, and fetches it from the nest.
