We Care Deeply About People

Jewish tradition teaches us the importance of humanity and its role in building a more just world. This comes with the obligation to act, help, and make change. JFS is a beautiful intersection of community members who want to act on their responsibility of Tikkun Olam, and community members who have found a place to ask for help. Volunteers are at the very heart of JFS.

Over 20,000 hours of community service is provided annually to our most vulnerable community members. Whether the goal is to pack and deliver food to a community member, teach someone who is isolated how to use a tablet, organize an event, or offer a conversation to a client, over 350 volunteers serve as a lifeline for JFS clients.

Our Volunteer Appreciation event in June was a small token to honour of all of those quiet heroes. As Rabbi Tendler said: “We came together to celebrate all of you today. We acknowledge that the work you do, the time and energy you generously offer, and the ideals which you commit yourselves to are holy and you become heroes to those who you reach out to.”

Thank you for your time, energy and care. Together, we continue to build more hopeful tomorrows, and foster friendships and connections within our community.
