SAFETY TIPS

Nature photography can bring photographers face-to-face with stunning locations and animals, but that doesn’t mean it is free from potential risk.

Safety is an important consideration for nature photographers, especially if they are planning on shooting off the beaten path.

No matter the location, photographers need to make sure they are appropriately dressed for the conditions.

Therefore, it is important to consider the following:

TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU ARE GOING Photographers frequently shoot alone, but many things can go wrong when out in the field. Even if you do travel with another person, make sure that someone else knows where you have gone.

CHECK THE WEATHER FORECAST Always keep an eye on the weather forecast, both before heading out and during the trip. Knowing what to expect could prevent an accident in cases of extreme weather conditions.

WEAR PROPER CLOTHING

GIVE ANIMALS SPACE

No matter the location, photographers need to make sure they are appropriately dressed for the conditions. If the weather is likely to be cold, balaclavas and warm layers are a must. Even in the summer, cover up to avoid sunburn.

Not only does crowding animals scare them away, it can also put you at risk if they feel threatened.

Even small animals can be dangerous if they feel threatened.
