Painted Rock

THE CAMPAIGN TO SAVE PAINTED ROCK ANCHORING A NEW COMMUNITY PARK OF 505 ACRES The 84-acre hillside near the border of Moraga and Lafayette—affectionately known as Painted Rock—is both a touchstone for the community and the potential anchor of a new preserve of 505 acres of natural open space for public recreation. This is in the center of Lamorinda and just minutes from thousands of East Bay homes. At 935 feet, the Painted Rock ridgeline is among the highest points in the area. Passed by thousands of residents daily on busy streets below, this hill is so familiar, and yet unexplored. Few people, other than teenagers wielding paint cans or occasional ranchers herding cattle, have experienced its unobstructed sweeping views of Mount Diablo and stunning peaks and valleys in all directions. PRESERVING THE MAGIC OF LOCAL LANDSCAPES If John Muir Land Trust ( JMLT) succeeds in raising $1 million by May 31, 2019, Painted Rock will become the next acquisition in our decades-long effort to protect the most threatened properties in the East Bay Hills—a landscape that defines our region’s rich natural heritage. These places protect clean water. They provide recreation and peace-ofmind essential for the health and well-being of hikers, cyclists, dog walkers, equestrians, bird watchers, and appreciative nature lovers of all ages.

A REMARKABLE 505-ACRE PUBLIC PRESERVE … IF WE ACT NOW Two new housing developments are in progress on adjacent ridgelines: Palos Colorados and Rancho Laguna II will add 150 new houses.
