CAMPAIGN TO EXPAND

FRANKLIN RIDGE

MAKING CRITICAL CONNECTIONS Campaign to Expand Franklin Ridge

Wildlife habitat and regional trails need the same thing: connectivity. John Muir Land Trust’s latest campaign to expand the protected lands along Franklin Ridge supports both conservation priorities. Intact natural corridors need to span long distances so that wild species can roam away from populated areas and adapt to climate change. People need trails for healthful recreation in nature. The value of trails increases as missing segments are added, allowing systems to connect into seemingly limitless pathways for outdoor exploration and enjoyment. We’re thrilled to report great progress toward these objectives along Franklin Ridge. Since this spring the JMLT community has raised over 60% of the funds needed to acquire and permanently protect two properties that will make new connections for native wildlife and expand our trails. Success means more robust habitat and more delightful outdoor experiences for nature lovers across the East Bay. continues on page 3
