COVID-19 As a Respiratory Illness COVID-19 is primarily transmitted and contracted via respiratory droplets that are released into the air when an infected person sneezes or coughs. The virus is not thought to be spread via blood.

Virus Compatibility A virus must be able to survive in both the bodies of a human and an insect for it to be transmitted between the two. Respiratory diseases are unable to replicate inside the body of an insect in most cases, and coronavirus is likely to be no different.

What Diseases Can Be Transmitted Via Mosquito Bites?

In the US, the most common disease to be contracted by mosquito bite is West Nile virus, which can cause serious illness and even death.

Zika virus, malaria and dengue are also risks, although, in the US at least, they are uncommon.
