Restarting an Industry: Nuclear

[It does not make sense to restart the nuclear industry in the United States as long as the anti-nuclear activists are able to continued doing what they have done since 1970, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission uses the same review standards regarding low dose radiation, and the NRC does not have a competent staff to quickly review new nuclear technologies.

Certain leaders and organizations in America’s nuclear power industry have to stop kidding themselves that nuclear power has any influence over Earth’s climate and that nuclear power can be expanded fast enough to “rescue” the world from “man-made global warming catastrophic tipping points.”

It is going to take far longer than many pro-nuclear organizations talk about for nuclear power to be generating most of the world’s electricity. That will then be still less than most of the world’s uses of fossil fuels.

Nuclear power advocates, organizations, and key people must work for three things:

1) Promote nuclear power as the cleanest, most environmentally friendly, most price stable source for generating electricity.

2) Clear away all the hurdles the anti-nuclear power alarmists have put in front of the nuclear industry since the 1970s.

3) Learn from successful nuclear power programs and regulatory agencies in

Canada, China, France, Germany, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, and other countries.

The United States Government needs a major house cleaning. Many politicians won’t do that.

The United States has been very successful with its nuclear power program in spite of all the obstacles. Our real nuclear power leaders are among the best in the world. But where our nuclear power program is in 2023 is very disappointing and a disgrace.

CLIMATE has always changed. We know for sure that today’s climate change has nothing to do with the increase of CO2 atmospheric concentration. We know this because:

a) During the interglacial periods of the last 500.000 (one each 100,000 years or so) global temperatures reached values higher than global temperatures of the present interglacial period, yet CO2 atmospheric concentration was always below 300 ppm,

whereas today it is above 400 ppm.

b) During the present interglacial period global temperatures reached values higher than that of the last 100 years (Holocene Optimum, Roman Optimum, Medieval Optimum).

c) The present warming started since the minimum (1690 ca.) of the Little Ice Age.

d) During the years 1940-80, the Earth suffered global cooling, in spite of the fact that we had a baby boom, an industrial boom and an emissions boom.

e) For a dozen years (2000-12) there has been observed no warming, although emissions have relentlessly increased.

f) The models predicting a man made warming a) fail to reproduce the Holocene, Roman and Medieval warming; b) have failed in predicting the no-warming during the years 2000-12; c) have predicted a hot-spot in the equatorial troposphere at around 10 km above sea level, but satellite and balloons measurement have detected a cool spot in that area.

We should thank God for living in the fossil fuels era (rather than in the stone ages, the iron ages or otherwise). The world energy needs has been satisfied 100% by the solar energy since the beginning of the world, and this was thanks to a little wind, some wood, and a lot of slavery. Thanks to fossil fuels and technology using them, slavery is today a taboo (it was not so until 200 years ago: the “Gone with the Wind” story occurred less than 200 years ago in an America with 30 million people and 4 million legal slaves). Today’s world energy needs are satisfied by solar energy by less than 10%. Solar energy is the energy of the past, when the world population has always been less than 1 billion people. Today we are 8 billion: for solar energy to become the energy of the future (no fossil fuels, no nuclear) 7 billion of us have to die, and 90% of those surviving become slaves.

[Sorry Your Excellency, Dalai Lama, Buddhists know what supports life and what is pollution. Carbon dioxide from use of fossil fuels is the amazing molecule of all life. It does no harm.

Your recommendation to take fossil fuels away because they produce carbon dioxide AND to sequester CO2 out of the air would be a catastrophe for humanity, the environment, and wildlife. Think of all the mining for millions of windmills and solar panels to replace fossil fuels over thousands of years - just for generating electricity. The majority of uses for fossil fuels are for transportation, space heating, cooking, mining, and manufacturing. They will always be used for these purposes. Think of all the wind turbines slicing up birds and bats. Think of all the waste turbines, solar panels, and batteries going to landfills repeatedly for tens of thousands of years! Think of all the wind turbines located in the oceans that will rust and be torn apart by severe storms, giant waves, and ice buildup. Fossil fuels are far better for people and the environment than wind and solar energy. The transition to wind turbines and solar panels is a treacherous hoax against the wonderful modern world.

Who is to blame? John Shanahan wrote: “The biggest offenders of man-made global warming alarmism are voters who put the alarmist politicians in power.”

I disagree with that because the vast majority doesn't have the education to understand who is reasonable in the climate debate.

The same goes for the politicians. None of the ministers in the German government has a scientific background. And none of them has a sound education or experience in economics, unfortunately.

The background of most journalists is not better, but if they were following the rules of good journalism they would support a debate and not suppress it.

Glass is largely transparent to incoming solar radiation which warms whatever is inside the greenhouse. If the greenhouse had no walls (like the atmosphere), warmed greenhouse air would rise by convection, escape out via the open sides, and heavy cooler air near to the ground would flow in to take its place. This open “Greenhouse” would stay close to outside temperature.

What causes a real greenhouse to warm is the solid transparent roof and the closed walls. The glass roof welcomes incoming solar radiation but the solid enclosure prevents this warmed inside air from escaping.

In a real greenhouse, operators shut vents to prevent warm air from escaping (or open them when they wish to lower the inside temperature). They pump CO2 in to

encourage plant growth (the Anti-Greens want to starve plants by restricting CO2).

Earth’s atmosphere has no roof or walls. Solar heating at the surface causes the hot air to rise. It cools by radiation or adiabatic expansion and is replaced by cooler air.

I am a convinced European to the point of having devoted 36 years of my professional life to the development of energy policies within the European Commission. We have done extraordinary things, for example, in terms of technologies that have made it possible to produce oil and gas in the North Sea, or to develop the clean coal combustion technologies that the Chinese are now selling in Africa and Asia.

In 2000, we developed a strategy for the security of energy supply based on the diversification of primary energies, import countries and import means and routes. We have also worked on energy efficiency.

But today, energy policy has been superseded by decarbonization policy. The European Union believed that everything would be possible and fast, especially with wind and solar energy, to the point of abandoning the provisions of the Euratom Treaty, which provided for the promotion of civil nuclear energy.

In the chaos created by this carelessness that has led to the abandonment of the indigenous production of fossil fuels, the European Union claims that the solution is to accelerate this abandonment and therefore to speed up the production of wind and solar energy. However, after having financed their technological development for nearly half a century, having given priority to dispatching and having obliged their production since 2009, they still represent only 3% of the primary energy balance.

It is urgent and essential for the future of the Union to denounce the failure of the abandonment of the energy policy.

It must be said that the European Union has blindly followed Germany in its energy Katastrophe. It is high time to save the future of the EU by giving up everything that Germany has imposed in Brussels/Strasbourg.

The founding fathers of the EU created the European Community - as the EU was then called - with the aim of having "abundant and cheap energy" (Messina Declaration of 2 June 1955). We have arrived at the moment of truth, at the edge of the cliff... there is only one thing to do... put it in reverse.

These are reactors of the order of only 100MW in size which do not need to be near large bodies of water. They can be placed virtually anywhere. Nonetheless, scattered blackouts of the kind I have been caught in are a reminder of what alarmists (though unsettling, they’re not always wrong) have been warning. If there is no electricity, there is no light, no water, no sewage, no gas and diesel, no heating and cooling—even gas and oil systems rely on electric pumps and fans. If such a blackout were sustained, slow death through starvation, or fast death through disease and armed gangs ravaging the cities and towns for food, would be the result.

Ocean Currents More Important than the Greenhouse Effect

The widely held belief that humans are causing a climate emergency has its origins in the claim that greenhouse gases keep the planet warm by absorbing Earth’s radiation,1 preventing it escaping to space. From this understanding, it would naturally follow that releasing more greenhouse gases, specifically carbon dioxide from industrial emissions, will lead to more warming.

Burning of fossil fuels has undoubtedly increased the carbon dioxide concentration of the atmosphere. In the IPCC’s explanation, as the concentration has increased, there has been a reduction in the intensity of radiation emitted to space. This so-called ‘radiation forcing’ heats the atmosphere. The reality of the greenhouse effect is, however, much more complex than just the absorption of Earth’s radiation by greenhouse gases and the balance of radiation at the top of the atmosphere. It has been understood for more than 60 years that greenhouse gases emit more radiation –to space and back to Earth – than they absorb. The atmosphere is only prevented from cooling by a constant flow of heat and latent energy (the evaporation of water vapour) from the Earth’s surface. It is impossible to properly understand what is going on without considering these enormous flows of energy.

The absence of global radiation balance is exemplified by the fact that Earth’s average surface temperature is not constant; it has an annual range exceeding 2.5°C. This shows that the global emission of longwave radiation to space must vary through the year. This can only mean that the amount of heat radiated to space is a function of Earth’s changing temperature, which in turn means radiation to space cannot in any way be defining Earth’s temperature, either locally or globally.

An alternative approach to explaining why Earth’s temperature is changing is to follow the course of energy as it traverses the climate system, from absorption over the tropics, transport poleward by the atmospheric and oceanic currents, to emission to space over higher latitudes.

While a small amount of extra energy has gone into the tropical ocean surface as a result of increased carbon dioxide concentrations, eight times as much has been escaping to the atmosphere. The absorption of additional radiation energy from the change in carbon dioxide concentration is insufficient to support the rise in latent heat loss from the increase in surface temperature. This leaves changes in ocean currents as the only plausible explanation for the warming of the tropical reservoir. This idea is supported by real-world evidence, such as the observed slowing of the Gulf Stream.

Greetings from the grouping of Political and Social Leaders of the World To Stop the Danger of Nuclear War, initiated by the Schiller Institute in Germany.

We have met on three occasions to discuss the impending danger of nuclear war and global Armageddon resulting from the war between Ukraine and Russia, with a view to taking whatever action necessary to stop the war and to bring peace.

On 17 November 2022, our group issued a Declaration To Stop the Threat

of Nuclear War, signed by legislators and former legislators from Latin America, the United States, Europe, the Caribbean, and Africa.

In that declaration, we highlighted Your Holiness’s call for a negotiated, peaceful solution. We further welcome Your Holiness’s offer of the Vatican as a possible neutral ground for peace talks without any preconditions between Russia and Ukraine. Our group wishes to support this initiative in any way we can, including gathering together all who wish for peace and the prevention of nuclear war.

We note that others in Europe and the United States have also offered venues for the Russian and Ukrainian leadership to negotiate peace. We believe it is urgent to unify all such efforts into a globe-spanning movement to bring resolution to this conflict, taking into consideration the valid security interests of all parties.

In that spirit, we hereby sign this letter to indicate that support, and call on other political and social leaders around the world, regardless of differences in ideology or religious faith, to add their signatures as well.

We intend to convene a Fourth Seminar of Political and Social Leaders of the World To Stop the Danger of Nuclear War in early 2023 to further this push for peace and to stop the danger of nuclear war, and we extend an invitation to a representative from the Vatican to attend.

The international Schiller Institute endorses the offer of Pope Francis to use the venue of the Vatican for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine for a diplomatic settlement of the war in Ukraine.

The confrontation between the U.S., NATO, and Russia has escalated to the point where one more step, even an unintended mistake, one misreading by one side or the other, could trigger the launching of the entire nuclear arsenals of both sides, leading to a global nuclear war, followed by a nuclear winter of about ten years, which would mean that in all likelihood not one human being would survive.

According to the U.S.-based Arms Control Association, citing senior U.S. Officials: “Biden has decided not to follow through on his 2020 pledge to declare that the sole purpose of nuclear weapons is to deter a nuclear attack against the United States or its allies. Instead, he approved a version of a policy from the Obama administration that leaves open the option to use nuclear weapons not only in retaliation to a nuclear attack, but also to respond to non-nuclear threats.”

In response to that change, Russian President Putin declared on December 9, in a press conference in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan that Russia will reconsider its nuclear doctrine to use nuclear weapons only if the existence of the Russian state is threatened, and may respond to the U.S. doctrine of preemptive strike by adopting the same policy of a preemptive strike. That means we are one step away from a thermonuclear catastrophe.

We call on all people of good will to support the offer of Pope Francis, which has been reiterated by Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, to use the venue of the Vatican for the immediate beginning of peace negotiations, without any preconditions. This is no longer an issue between Russia and Ukraine, and it never was. The Ukrainian people, like the Russian people, are victims and their suffering must stop immediately. This has become an issue of the entire human species, because if such a nuclear war happens, there will be no survivors.

We call on you to join our request for a diplomatic solution. Also join our campaign to conduct choruses in the whole world to sing the canon for peace, “Dona Nobis Pacem.” May the voices for peace move the hearts and minds of those responsible.

Earth’s Temperature: The Effect of the Sun, Water Vapor, and CO2

Abstract of above paper

The purpose of this study is to show the Sun controls the Earth’s temperature daily and over decades and millennia. A secondary objective is to show CO2 contributes to the warming of the Earth through increased enthalpy (heat content). The methodology is to record temperature and relative humidity at many weather stations around the globe to provide a picture of the constantly changing atmosphere over twelve months.

Daily measurements of the molecular fraction of CO2 are converted to weight to calculate the increasing enthalpy of the atmosphere. The Sun controls Earth’s temperature through water vapor up to the dewpoint temperature line and by direct heat radiation from the Sun above it. The enthalpy contribution by CO2 from 1750 to 2022 was up to 0.0000049 kJ/kg of dry air, equivalent to a temperature increase of 0.000181oC over 272 years. The effect of CO2 on warming the Earth has a negligible increase in Earth’s temperature.

[NOTE by Douglas Lightfoot - The approach is completely new and nothing like anyone has seen before.

We are able to determine the weight of CO2 per kilogram of dry air and from there calculate the enthalpy that it generates. Its warming effect is quantified from accurately measured data, which is another first.

CO2 has never been a significant warming gas, even 600 million years ago when it was at 4,000 ppm.

Maybe now we can get away from the concept that increasing CO2 causes global warming.

It occurred to me overnight that there might be a misunderstanding about psychrometric data.

We used it to show the Sun controls Earth's temperature daily by water vapor up to the blue dew point line and by natural radiation above it.

Psychrometric data is the thermodynamic properties of air containing water vapor, i.e., humid (moist) air. You can see these properties at the MegaWatSoft website: https://www.megawatsoft.com/psychrometrics.aspx

Physical measurements of the properties of air containing water vapor are the basis for psychrometric data. The data does not include CO2 because its warming effect on the atmosphere is too small to measure, as our paper shows. It appears people have never been able to measure it and include it.

Psychrometric data was developed before 1904 when W. H. Carrier made it easier to use by constructing a chart. The data has been made more accurate over time. It is proven technology. Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) engineers use it daily to design ventilation systems for people's spaces successfully.

Humans already have the tools to combat climate change but we lack leadership

Dave Lowe’s science appears to be sincere like some other alarmist scientists in North America and Europe, but his conclusion that carbon dioxide is a pollutant is going in the wrong direction. CO2 is obviously the molecule of life. There is no proven evidence that it has a significant, detrimental effect on climate. Look at the photos below of how beautiful CO2 makes life in New Zealand.

Beyond Our Control - Debunking man-made global warming

Forecasting climate change is a very complex process

Let’s examine PROVEN reserves and productive capacities of four producing countries closely associated with America’s oil demand.

1. Venezuela (299.3 billion barrels) – heavy oil requires more sophisticated processing resulting in higher cost for products.

2. Saudi Arabia (266.6 billion barrels) – high-capacity wells – approx. 3,500 wells can produce 12 million barrels per day. However, they are getting close to maximum capacity – presently probably 85-90%.

3. Canada (170.9 billion barrels) – tar sands produce bitumen which requires sophisticated processing. The Keystone XL pipeline out of Canada could furnish 800,000+ barrels per day.

4. Russia (80.0 billion barrels) – likely at or very near producing capacity. Near term solution only.

5. United States (25.2 billion barrels) – production from 620,000+ wells can produce a maximum of 11-12 million barrels per day. Fracked wells in shale producing basins decline rapidly and continuous drilling is necessary to maintain overall oil production rates.

The American oil industry was born in the 18 th century with the Drake well at Titusville, PA. However, the Spindletop oil discovery in Texas was the true beginning of the American oil industry. For decades many flowing wells produced thousands of barrels per day. Now, it is likely few, if any, such high rate flowing wells will be discovered. The best possibilities lie on Alaska’s North Slope (ANWR offers billion barrel reserves with the likelihood of high-rate flowing wells). Exploration of additional shale basins in the US offer sizable oil reserves. However, America will make the leap in discovery of new oil reserves to bring it up to Russia’s level of reserves. Lastly, the cost of finding and procuring these new reserves will be much higher than in the past.

Is there a solution? Yes, but it does not lie with solar or wind generated energy. It lies with nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is safe, efficient, and cost effective. For decades we have propelled our aircraft carriers, submarines and other ocean-going vessels with nuclear power without any activist fears being fulfilled, i.e., core meltdowns or any other serious accidents. In fact, what is the human/animal death count from an onshore nuclear power plant compared to other industrial plants? Unfortunately, uniformed activists and politicians have successfully fear-mongered the use of nuclear power plants and storage of nuclear waste on a scale matched only by the global warming crusaders. This being said, what is the future of nuclear reactors?

TerraPower announced it will build a next generation nuclear power demonstration reactor at Kemmerer in southwest Wyoming. Terra Power says the reactor will set the tone for a new portfolio of US advanced reactors. Further, the plant will produce nearly 300 million megawatt hours of carbon free power each year and avoid almost 2 million metric tons of carbon. The plant will also produce hydrogen to create synthetic fuels or decarbonize the oil refining process. Two other advanced reactors are expected to be constructed in the Northwest. Hopefully these projects will not be subjected to unreasonable protests and political misinformed dialogue.

Our transition from fossil fuels should begin now. We should continue the use of fossil fuels for transportation, power generation, and manufactured products.

The records show that the rise in temperature precedes the rise in the concentration of atmospheric CO2 (i.e., [CO2]). Therefore, the claim that CO2 is responsible for "global warming" is non-causal and violates the very basis of science. It is like claiming that the bullet left the gun before the trigger was pulled! The causal relationship is that the rise in temperature causes the rise in [CO2] in the atmosphere. The change in temperature is related to the orbit of the earth around the sun and the variation in the angle of rotation, together with the natural cycles in the output of the sun. Human activity has no impact on that. Start with Aristotle's "Physiks" that was published in about 450 BC, which first formulated "cause and effect" and work up from there!

The power and uniqueness of our approach is that we used only two sets of data as inputs to the analysis. We accepted the fact that the earth's global temperature is the result of a few thousand years of natural climate variations. We took the measured rise in CO2 caused by fossil fuel emissions since 1850, and the current accepted value of average global temperature for the two variables. It is unnecessary to have a complete computer analysis of 20 or so input variables. Correctly modeling the input of all functions is impossible, because all inputs are not well known. This problem has confounded all attempts to solve this complex problem by use of computerized climate models for the last 41 years. We came up with a solution that passes the test of validation by comparison with measured data in two years.

Their conclusions, based on empirical data, are clear: The warming of the atmosphere caused by increased amounts of CO2 is small and insignificant, only about one degree centigrade for this century. Our further studies show that the claims of climate change causing more frequent and more severe hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts, floods, sea level rise, forest fires, etc. are false.

We are faced with the great challenge of limiting global warming to below 2°C. The science is clear: global warming is driven by greenhouse-gas emissions which are the result of burning fossil fuels. If we fail to strongly reduce these emissions and to bend the warming curve, we, our neighbors and children will be exposed to intolerable risks. The scientific consensus as represented by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been continuously reaffirmed by the most eminent scientific academies, including the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences which have congregated several times over the past years to address the topics of climate change and global sustainability (2–5). Introduction

Murry Salby was one of the few real experts in atmospheric physics and climate science. He had extensively studied the main processes controlling the Earth-Atmosphere System and was able to deduce from this the true connections of increasing greenhouse gases and a changing climate. In times that are more determined by pseudo-science than serious climate science we have lost an important voice standing up for the true values in science and research and, even more so, in spite of the great personal attacks and existential impairments he had to bear over recent years. We pay the greatest tribute to Murry Salby for his extensive scientific work which has contributed to a much deeper understanding of climate processes.

1) The world has on average warmed during the past 150 years, after a cooling period of the Little Ice Age, from ~1300 to ~1800 AD, not mentioning earlier climatic shifts.

2) CO2 and CH4 are green-house gases and have contributed, along with other climate forcings, to the measured global temperature increase during the past 150 years

3) Humans contribute to this measured warming, include but are not limited to the increased GHG concentration in the atmosphere (namely CO2 and CH4), which appear to be largely of anthropogenic origin over the past 150 years.

4) Most importantly, we are certain that you will agree – and if not we ask you to please reply which point you do not agree with and why – with our view that humankind should

a) Minimizing the environmental impact of our energy systems along the entire value chain and life-cycle, environmental impact include emissions and non-emissions,

b) Increase material efficiency of energy systems (use less raw materials for each unit of energy produced),

Some scientists focus on the global average flow of CO2 between the atmosphere, the top layer of the ocean, the deep ocean, and life and mankind’s activities on land. This is net one directional flow analysis, where flows actually go in both directions at different locations on the planet. It may be scientifically sound, but it doesn’t easily relate to observed climate changes for ordinary people.

Other scientists use spectral analysis of electromagnetic radiation from sunlight entering the atmosphere and infrared radiation going out after it interacts with “greenhouse gasses,” mainly H2O and CO2. This is obviously the correct heat balance analysis for global warming, But it does not easily relate to “climate change” for the general public. These analyses do not explain ice ages and warm periods in between. They just explain the interaction of infrared radiation with “greenhouse” gasses.

Some scientists claim that all the additional atmospheric CO2 in the last 200 years is natural. Others claim it is from the use of fossil fuels. The two sides don’t speak to each other constructively. Progress on resolving this question is near a standstill.

Joe Biden and John Kerry promised trillions of taxpayer dollars to other nations at COP27 in Egypt because they claim that the United States has caused catastrophic man-made global warming from use of fossil fuels. BS!

The main reason that Bret Stephens gets a down arrow rating is that he equates the changing climate in Greenland with catastrophic man-made global warming from use of fossil fuels. He, like many other people, needs to learn the Scientific Method, before they rush off with his kind of conclusions. Other than that he quotes many careful researchers and their conclusions. This is good.

Yes, Greenland’s Ice is Melting But…

FOR YEARS, I saw myself not as a global-warming denier (a loaded term with its tendentious echo of Holocaust denial) but rather as an agnostic on the causes of climate change and a scoffer at the idea that it was a catastrophic threat to the future of humanity.

It’s not that I was unalterably opposed to the idea that, by pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, modern civilization was contributing to the warming by 1 degree Celsius and the inches of sea-level rise the planet had experienced since the dawn of the industrial age. It’s that the severity of the threat seemed to me wildly exaggerated and that the proposed cures all smacked of old-fashioned statism mixed with new-age religion.

Greenland is about the size of Alaska and California combined and, except at its coasts, is covered by ice that in places is nearly two miles thick. Even that’s only a fraction of the ice in Antarctica, which is more than six times as large. But the Arctic is warming at nearly four times the global average, meaning Greenland’s ice also poses a nearer-term risk because it is melting faster. If all its ice were to melt, global sea levels would rise by some 24 feet.

Measuring ice loss on scales so vast is no easy task, since Greenland, like a spendthrift billionaire, is both constantly accumulating and shedding almost unfathomable quantities of ice over long spans of time. But scientists have been drilling ice-core samples from Greenland for decades, giving them a very good idea of climatic changes stretching back thousands of years. Better yet, a pair of satellites that detect anomalies in Earth’s gravity fields has been taking measurements of the sheet regularly for nearly 20 years, giving scientists a much more precise idea of what is happening.

David Rockefeller and Maurice Strong

By far the most influential organizer of Rockefeller’s ‘zero growth’ agenda in the early 1970s was David Rockefeller’s friend, a billionaire oilman named Maurice Strong.

Canadian Maurice Strong was one of the key early propagators of the scientifically flawed theory that man-made CO2 emissions from transportation vehicles, coal plants and agriculture caused a dramatic and accelerating global temperature rise which threatens “the planet”, so-called Global Warming.

As chairman of the 1972 Earth Day UN Stockholm Conference, Strong promoted an agenda of population reduction and lowering of living standards around the world to “save the environment.”

Strong stated his radical ecologist agenda:

“Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn’t it our responsibility to bring that about?”

Earth Summit I and Rio Earth Summit

By 1971 Strong was named Undersecretary of the United Nations in New York and Secretary General of the upcoming Earth Day conference, United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (Earth Summit I) in Stockholm, Sweden. He was also named that year as a trustee of the Rockefeller Foundation – which financed his launch of the Stockholm Earth Day project.[x] In Stockholm the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) was created with Strong as its head.

By 1989 Strong was named by the UN Secretary General to head the 1992 UN

Conference on Environment and Development or UNCED (“Rio Earth Summit II”). He oversaw the drafting of the UN “Sustainable Environment” goals there, the Agenda 21 for Sustainable Development that forms the basis of Klaus Schwab’s Great Reset, as well as creation of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of the UN. Strong, who was also a board member of Davos WEF, had arranged for Schwab to serve as a key adviser to the Rio Earth Summit.

As Secretary General of the UN Rio Conference, Strong commissioned a report from the Club of Rome, The First Global Revolution, authored by Alexander King which admitted that the CO2 global warming claim was merely a ruse to force change:

“The common enemy of humanity is man.In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came upwith the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming,water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. All thesedangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only throughchanged attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome.The real enemy then, is humanity itself.”

President Clinton’s delegate to Rio, Tim Wirth, admitted the same, stating,

“We have to ride the global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing for economic and environmental policy.”

At Rio Strong first introduced the manipulative idea of “sustainable society” defined in relation this arbitrary goal of eliminating CO2 and other so-called Greenhouse Gases. Agenda 21 became Agenda 2030 in Sept 2015 in Rome, with the Pope’s blessing, with 17 “sustainable” goals. It declared among other items,

“Land, because of its unique nature and the crucial role it plays in human settlement, cannot be treated as an ordinary asset, controlled by individuals and subject to the pressures and inefficiencies of the market. Private land ownership also is a principal instrument of accumulation and concentration of wealth and therefore contributes to social injustice…Social justice, urban renewal, and development, the provision of decent dwellings and healthy conditions for the people can only ‘be achieved if land is used in the interests of society as a whole.”

Private land ownership must become socialized for “society as a whole,” an idea well-known in Soviet Union days, and a key part of the Davos Great Reset.

Activities of humans in the 20th and 21st centuries, particularly the use of fossil fuels, are causing catastrophic global cooling, global warming, and climate change.

Viewed as an engine with high and low limit governors, the earth’s climate has been remarkably stable over geologic time even when carbon dioxide has varied greatly. Minor climate changes such as since the little ice age are naturally cyclic. The climate crisis is more about attempting to control others than the climate.

Fossil fuels have an energy density second only to nuclear. Solar and wind require

enormous geographical areas and are very low in energy density. Fossil fuels will be harder to find and more expensive. It will take time to create synthetic alternatives. We should preserve the remaining fossil fuels for materials such as plastic.

Nuclear fission and fusion, small modular or very large, is the ultimate energy source. The goal is to remove obstacles that have made nuclear costly. Abundant and cheap energy has significantly advanced living standards. Nuclear will consistently provide energy for all things including synthetic fuels, and desalinated water without despoiling the beauty of the land.

Truly educated people in a broad range of disciplines have a common trait. They consistently ask and seek the answer to the question “but is it true?” BIIT or equivalent is the core of critical thinking. Those who don’t ask such questions are at best mal-educated pseudoscientists to charlatans at their worst. We are now in an era where a preferred narrative trumps BIIT. Just asking the question never mind the investigation can result in severe sanctions from universities, governments, social media, major publications and of course, the self-appointed “elite.”

I have straddled science and engineering most of my careers. A major difference is that scientists can be wrong but engineers cannot. When a bridge falls down or a rocket explodes, the engineers are held accountable. Scientists should not have that burden because we want them exploring the frontiers of knowledge where they can be wrong but still keep pursuing the truth. The Italians held some geoscientists accountable for NOT predicting a devastating earthquake? That is just wrong and likely ended all Italian earthquake research. If they kept the stilted language of scientific papers by not being too precise they may have avoided prosecution. Pseudoscientists who create and support false narratives should be prosecuted. In several of my listed articles you will see that I had unique knowledge of how photons of light interact with molecules and I consulted with the Rome NY Airforce Lab to create a computer program and models of the HITRAN database.

My “bovine scatology” (better known as BS) filter alarmed when the mal-educated/charlatans announced that the science was settled; carbon dioxide caused global warming. I knew that a thorough analysis of the HITRAN spectra would definitively prove the innocence of CO2. Unfortunately I was not smart enough to complete it. In 2020 W. A. Van Wijngaarden and Will Happer succeeded!

Engineers are trained to look at alternative ways to solve problems so I looked at counting how many “greenhouse” related molecules and photons were engaged at any

one time. My results correlate with Van Wijngaarden and Happer. There are multiple orders of magnitude more absorbing molecules than photons to be absorbed. Even double the CO2 will make a nearly undetectable difference.

Fossil fuels and petrochemicals have provided the abundant cheap energy and advanced materials that has lifted most of mankind from abject poverty to the highest standards of living in all of human history. Now “virtue signalers” want to tell the rest of the very poor “sorry, you don’t qualify.”

My Galactic Visitor essays are about how someone from a far civilization primarily powered by hydrogen and nuclear thought how marvelous and efficient was our use of petroleum fuels. Their planet did not have petroleum so the visitor returned home to use nuclear power to produce liquid fuels.

The primary argument against nuclear power is the public’s fear of radiation. As a nuclear trained submariner, I once turned a 5 REM film badge black. That got my attention! Years of research led to the piece on Radiation Damage to People. It turns out that we humans have well developed resistance to radiation damage.
