CHOW KIT Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in Chow Kit, Chow Kit is a suburb in central Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

It is located around Jalan Chow Kit (Chow Kit Road) and is enclosed by the parallel streets of Jalan Raja Laut and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

It is named after Loke Chow Kit ( ) a well-known miner, municipal councilor, public official, and also the first local owner of a department store - Chow Kit & Co – which was the largest in KL at the time.

HISTORY HISTORY

Beyond the glitzy shopping malls and futuristic skyscrapers of Bukit Bintang, it’s business as usual for the traders and residents of Chow Kit. Up until a decade ago, the area was infamous for being the city’s red light district, but there’s much more to the neighbourhood than its seamy reputation.

THE MILLIONAIRE TYCOON It was said to be one of the first in the country to own a telephone - also founded Chow Kit & Co, the largest general store in its day and the first department store owned by locals.

Some historians, including the late Dr Khoo Kay Kim, regard Mandailing merchant Sutan Puasa - who played a key role in developing settlements and infrastructure in Kuala Lumpur In the decades that followed, Chow Kit developed into the city's commercial centre,

GANGSTERISM Even as the district developed a reputation for prostitution and gangsterism, Chow Kit continued to hold a special place in the hearts of Kuala Lumpur residents thanks to its gritty, down-toearth energy.

RAMLY BURGER Ramly burger, the favourite among Malaysians, can trace its humble beginnings to the streets of Chow Kit. In the early days, founder Ramly Mokni operated out of his flat on Jalan Haji Hussein in nearby Kampung Baru before opening his first stall in Chow Kit.

OUR SITE OUR SITE PUSAT GELANDAGAN MEDAN TUANKU The Pusat Khidmat Gelandangan Medan Tuanku is maintained by YKN (Yayasan Kebajikan Negara) & DBKL. YKN handling administration while DBKL manages the location during the setup and times that the homeless occupy the space. A lot of funding is through CSR Moneyball food in almost all food shelters are provided solely by NGOs

TASK TASK 2 2 POGGIO PICENZE COMMUNITY CENTER The new Poggio Picenze multi-age community center was born to replace the old structure used for social gatherings, located in the historic center, which was made unusable by the earthquake of April 6, 2009. A number of associations responded to the appeal from the administration, including the Associazione Nazionale Cantanti, the group La Provincia Editoriale and the Salvadanaio per l’Abruzzo. The construction company, the supplier firms and the designers are working to reduce their fees. After a first draft of the project, which included the location of the building on the concrete pitch in the city park, in 2011 the city council relocated the community center site to a neighboring sports area, where it replaced the earthquake logistics coordination camp.

EXPERIENCE EXPERIENCE The building is surrounded by vertical elements which make up the exterior wall of the building as well as covered by vertical wires for the climbing plants.

The combination of these vertical elements make up the form and shape of the building.

The main circulation for the building is based on the 'big crack' in the middle of the building. The zig-zag volumes want to somehow evoke imaginary cracks, in remembrance of the earthquake occurred. At the same time it creates the main connecting space and hallway for human circulation.

Composite Circulation The building employs a combination of preceding patterns. Important points are centers of activity, These nodes punctuate the path of movement through a building and provide opportunities for pause, rest, and reorientation.

COMMUNITY CENTER Community centers or community halls are public locations where members of a community tend to gather for group activities, social support, public information, and other purposes. They may sometimes be open for the whole community or for a specialized group within the greater community. Community centers can be religious in nature, such as Christian, Islamic, or Jewish community centres, or can be secular, such as youth clubs.

In this specific task were tasked to make an abstract as to why we need a community and what is a community? From there on we were able to understand the true purpose of a community center.

SCAN PROJECT

The Greek Acropolis believed the mythical creature known as The Leviathan is a sea serpent noted in theology and mythology. It is referenced in several books of the Hebrew Bible. The Leviathan appears when the state of crisis has deteriorated. When all circumstances seems faded back, the Leviathan will alternate and transpose its people to their better self. Just like the state of crisis through the post pandemic we are in, this facility with house shelter to educate and succor medical healthcare to those in need. According to Ophite diagrams, the Leviathan encapsulates the space of the material world.

Based off from the site analysis we'd had we were able to understand the natural sensory of which occurs on site.

From there on the Leviathan is derived to fit the cycle of the overall circulation and spaces on site.

It gives us a better understanding of the surrounding context as well as obstruction by which we can use to compensate or eliminate the source.

I derived The Leviathan by encompassing the site's natural wind study to understand the natural flow of air passage through the facility. Keep the atmosphere cool and shaded throughout, whilst pertaining SDG 7: Clean and renewable energy.

Mercy Malaysia is one of the pioneers in contributing to the homeless and the needy's of Malaysia. They offer aids and protection to various state and categories of human poverty.

Sols 24/7 is a running operative body to succumbs and covers various types of shelter and needs. It houses education that ranges from early childhood till working adults. It all boils down to community services.

DRUG ABUSERS

It is estimated that there are 1,500 to 2,000 homeless persons in Kuala Lumpur in 2016. The latest data on the homeless population in Malaysia is not found, but it can be assumed that the numbers have increased due to the pandemic. The scarcity of studies done on the homeless population is obvious.

According to the Malaysian National Drug Information System, National Anti – Drug Agency (AADK), a total of 131,841 drug addicts have been registered in Malaysia between January 2010 and February 2016. From the total number given, drug abuse among youth aged 19 and below in the country amounted to 8,732 people.

JOBLESS INDIVIDUALS The number of unemployed persons in this quarter reduced by 51.8 thousand persons to 694.4 thousand persons (Q3 2021: 746.2 thousand persons).

The unveiling reason as to why a facility of such is constructed. It is to preserve the functionalism of breaching the poverty cycle.

Exposed brick brings a sense of warmth, character, and texture to a space. It also speaks to the history of a building, of the hand that carefully laid down each brick, and of a craft that's quickly becoming less and less common.

These NGO's will utilise the capacity and venue to permeate the facility and face its focus on aiding the needy. Booths and workshops of education, health, metal awareness, social awareness, sducidal prevention, assault and post trauma seminar/ assist can be conducted,

An exposed brick expanse is a dramatic statement, as whichever wall you choose will become the focus of the room.

VENTILATED BRICKS Air bricks, sometimes called air bricks or air vents, are special bricks containing holes that allow air to enter under the floor of buildings that have suspended floors. Cavity walls also need ventilation to allow airflow that will prevent moisture build up.

In this line of action the ventilated bricks will direct natural air-flow into the perimeters of the building. Promoting SDG Goals No.7 Clean Energy.

The competition steadfast greater than any other class I've ever encountered.

I can only imagine the millimeter deference between an A grade and a C grade. It must be tough to be a lecturer, in my batch. TQ Ms Echa, for giving us the courage and strength to push us afar from the chapter we are writing.

TRENCHES Tears ran down my spine working tirelessly to complete the mock model to scale, 4 hours before external presentation.
