virtual open house my name is Lynette Clement I am the program director for the online master of science and human capital development program which we also offer as a certificate option please take the time now to mute your microphones as we process through the orientation session we will save time for questions and answers at the end of today's session so please again mute your microphones so that we won't get any of the background noise thank you the mission of Les Iles graduate studies is to equip students with an academic background that incorporates theory and practice in their chosen fields as well as to enhance their professional competencies in human capital development our faculty are educated practitioners who bring their knowledge and expertise into the classroom lasalle university was founded in 1863 by the Christian Brothers LaSalle offers both online as well as face-to-face courses for undergraduate as well as graduate learners and the human capital development program is a graduate level program that is offered completely online let's our University educates learners from around 82 countries and have about 23 graduate programs currently our main campus is in Northwest Philadelphia and we also have two other campuses in plymouth meeting and the other end Bucks County so again welcome and thank you for joining us and thank you for your interest in learning more about the human capital development program at lasalle university as I am out promoting the program I am often next to the question what is human capital development human capital development is another way of saying investing in talent development investing in developing the talent skills and abilities of your employees in any organization the employees are the most valuable asset so investing in professional development opportunities for that talent is essential to business success students in the program gain a comprehensive understanding of how an HC d human capital development framework links the workforce to its bottom line students learn how to diagnose both complex strategic challenges facing human capital development professionals and develop into innovative solutions to those challenges its strategic decision-making practices that motivates employers to invest in talent development the goals of the human capital development program is to teach learners how to serve as internal and external advisers to management at all levels similar to consultants to ensure that our faculty practitioners stay current in the field and bring their knowledge and expertise back into the classroom is also a priority for our human capital development program students learn how to develop implement and measures strategic human capital plans as well as how to improve their workforce over time to meet the organizational mission goals and objectives successfully the human capital development program again is one hundred percent online we offer both a master of science and human capital development as well as a certificate option 12 courses are required for the Masters and six of the 12 courses are required for the certificate program the certificate program is not automatic you must be enrolled in the certificate program to be eligible to receive the certificate after you complete these six required courses the certificate courses are transferable to the masters of science and human capital development program the courses are offered in an eight-week format with the exception of the capstone course which is offered in a 15-week format in the spring and fall semesters and a 12-week format during the summer semesters courses are offered in spring summer and fall semesters so graduates from our program are gainfully employed by companies such as Comcast mcgraw-hill in the United States Treasury thermo fisher scientific the city of Philadelphia and aramark to name a few the master of science and human capital development program is a two-year degree completion program that consists of 36 total credits all graduate level students in the program must earn at least a 3.0 GPA or above to graduate from the program as well as completely 12 required courses all courses in the program are three credit courses and of course offerings can change every semester and are based upon student course needs to get an idea of what certificate program outlined here on the screen students interested in obtaining the human capital development certificate again must be enrolled in the certificate program it is an 18 total credit program that takes one year to complete provided that you successfully complete two courses each semester and some are spring and fall students who complete the certificate program can also continue on towards the master's in human capital development program should they so desire to do so graduate students are eligible to receive six graduate level transfer credits when they have earned at least a B or better in a graduate level course in which they successfully completed and at an accredited institution of higher education and is considered equivalent to the courses offered in
the human capital development program which is determined by myself the program director we have a convenient online application and admissions process that will allow you to complete the application for free online as well as submit most of the admission material online during the application process upon receipt of all admission material your material is reviewed and an admission decision is determined you will be contacted by the graduate admissions counselor regarding your next step you can also receive your admission decision in a letter format via the united states postal service by now the admission requirements are outlined here on this screen if you are applying for fall please have all admission material and by July the 15th if you are applying for summer please have all admission material and by April the 15 and if you are applying for spring please have all that mission material n by December the 15 with the exception of the official transcript most of the admission material again can be submitted during the online application process and again the online application is free so there is a graduate application that is required two letters of recommendation a current professional resume your official college transcript confirming your degree and a 500 word essay outlining your interest in the program as well as your career goals the 2016 2017 tuition and fees are as followed the courses are all three credit courses and the tuition is 720 dollars per credit there is also a university fee of 135 dollars a part-time technology fee meaning students who are enrolled in three credits of $75 and a full-time technology fee of 150 dollars for students who are enrolled in six credits per semester the total tuition per course is two thousand one hundred and sixty dollars again that is per course so for the entire program if you are enrolled in one course the tuition for the masters is 27 180 for the total MS program or if you're enrolled full-time it's 27 6 30 for the entire program so that is the master's program so under the certificate option which is half of the master's program it is 1350 for students enrolled part-time and 13 8 15 for students who are enrolled full-time so we also offer what's called an employer cohort incentive if you have employees at your corporation institution we also offer a tuition discount incentive of fifteen to twenty percent discount rate provided that you had at least 12 employees enrolled at the same time the online learning environment is accessed through the Tools menu option in LaSalle's learning management system called Candace students taking online courses for the first time at lasalle in the program are required to complete the canvas self-directed learning module course which is a free no credit canvas training course that will help prepare you for the online learning environment at lasalle university what you can expect in an online course is to actively participate in the weekly discussion questions based on the weekly reading assignments complete paper assignments case studies as well as possible group work and presentations as well as final projects students can also be X to participate in what is referred to as a synchronous session or synchronous session synchronous which is a live virtual classroom held in programs such as this one and go to meeting or go to training those sessions are scheduled during the evening hours and are recorded and archived for students who cannot always participate live they are always you they're also used as a way to engage with your course instructor who serves as a facilitator for the learning process in the canvas learning management system your course will be designed similar to that which you see on your screen here instructors usually design each course differently so it is extremely important to students to click on all of the menu options that you see on the left side of your screen to locate all of your course material as soon as the course begins so that you know where to go to find any assignments and discussion questions students will participate in the synchronous sessions which are the live sessions will be in a session again similar to this one some instructors utilize the live sessions and some do not these sessions provide another way to present course material and are often used as a way for students to present final presentation some of the expectations of our learners in the program is that our educators help students engage in higher-level intellectual thinking using Bloom's taxonomy the thinking of flying analyzing synthesizing and evaluating concepts demonstrate mastery of current literature through course content demonstrate proficiency in verbal and written formats practice good time management skills which is essential to your success in an online classroom and contribute to the learning process by being actively engaged in each week's discussion some of the career options for graduates of the program are human resources professional training and development specialist workplace and career coach human capital strategies organizational and talent development manager as well as EEO manager to name a few of the career options for students who graduate from the human capital development program they also work in the nonprofit as well as the corporate setting students often feel that in an online environment they may not have access to some of the resources that you do when you're in a face-to-face class however online learners still have access to the support services center offered by lasalle university an academic advisor is assigned by program I currently serve as the director and academic advisor for students enrolled in the human capital development program as well as six other programs and can assist you with course selection and registration degree auditing and any academic concerns that you may have the IT student helpdesk
