Research: Inio Asano and environment
Notes • •
The scenes are incredibly intricate and seem 100% illustrated, but are surprisingly not. The artist photographs environments, then runs them through a filter, and finally touches up a print of the B&W image with fine liner line work to give the illusion that he drew the scenes himself. The manga used for reference here features a flat minimalist character within a detailed, 3D looking world. This, I personally found, made the detail of the scenery all the more impressive and dimensional, especially when you see the character flat against the environment.
Goals after research • •
I will experiment with methods of creating scenery organically and how I can mix flat objects/ text/ characters with detailed environments. Hone skill of using a scene to tell a story to strengthen the imagery of future comic work.
