DENR, US EPA team up to protect environment, human health against

challenges

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen collaboration in creating innovative solutions to fight off climate and environmental challenges on November 14, 2023.

The memorandum of understanding seeks to promote cooperation and sharing of information regarding various areas including air and water quality, science-based policy development, addressing climate change,

managing solid waste, conducting cumulative impact studies, responding to environmental incidents, promoting environmental justice, and ensuring enforcement and compliance.

The MOU was signed by US EPA Administrator Michael Regan in Washington, D.C., and then transmitted to the Philippines for the signature of DENR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, in a ceremony witnessed by United States Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson.

“The DENR recognizes that the US EPA’s scientific and technical expertise will significantly contribute to the department’s

keen desire to integrate more science into its work. As the adverse impacts of climate change and environmental degradation continue to impact the most vulnerable of the society, this collaboration will allow us to develop local adaptation and risk reduction strategies and integrate community and ecosystem resilience into green growth pathways,” Loyzaga said.

Moreover, in a collective declaration issued in May, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and United States President Joe Biden pledged to enhance collaboration on environmental and climate change matters.

DSWD admits: Giving rice instead of cash to 4Ps recipients ‘logistically hard’

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) admitted that it is “logistically hard” to implement the proposal of providing rice instead of cash subsidies for the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). It was recommended by the Department of Agriculture (DA)

to help Filipino farmers and to lower rice inflation.

In a Malacañang press briefing, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said that the beneficiaries of 4Ps are scattered, and many are in faraway places.

Gatchalian said that if the 2-month pay of Php 1,200 is converted to rice, it will be hard to deliver and

carry the beneficiaries.

According to Gatchalian, before implementing the said proposal, the government first needs to solve the problem of rice storage.

However, DSWD and DA continue to study the proposal regarding giving out rice to 4Ps.

Open AI introduces Sora

OpenAI, renowned company for developing AI and machine learning tools for video games and other recreational purposes, introduced Sora, its latest model that has the capability to generate real-life videos up to one minute long from simple text inputs, signaling a future where creativity is not just an innate human trait but also a digital commodity on February 15, 2024.

“Sora is able to generate complex scenes with multiple characters, specific types of motion, and accurate details of the subject and background. The model understands not only what the user has asked for in the prompt, but also how those things exist in the physical world,” OpenAi stated.

However, according to developers, although Sora’s announcement has generated anticipation, its launch is still pending, and it will take some time before it becomes generally available.

Today, Sora is being made available to red teamers for assessing critical areas for harms or risks. Access is also being granted to a number of visual artists, designers, and filmmakers to gather feedback on advancing the model to be most helpful for creative professionals.

“The model has a deep understanding of language, enabling it to accurately interpret prompts and generate compelling characters that express vibrant emotions. Sora can also create multiple shots within a single generated video that accurately persist characters and visual style,” they added.

Ph launches ‘Catch-Up Friday’ to address pandemic learning gaps

In response to the challenges posed by disrupted education due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippines has initiated a novel approach known as “CatchUp Friday” to address learning gaps among students by providing additional instructional time and support on Fridays.

Catch-Up Friday involves targeted interventions such as remedial classes, tutoring sessions, and enrichment activities designed to help students who may have fallen behind academically. The program targets subjects where students are struggling the most, focusing on foundational skills in mathematics, language arts, and science.

Education authorities em-

phasized the importance of Catch-Up Friday in mitigating the impact of prolonged school closures and remote learning on student achievement.

By dedicating specific time each week to address learning deficiencies, educators hope to prevent further widening of educational disparities and ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed.

Furthermore, Catch-Up Friday serves as a platform for teachers to provide personalized s upport to students, identify areas for improvement, and tailor instruction according to individual learning needs.

The debate over this topic has gained prominence. The 1987 Philippine’s Constitution, created over three decades ago, is outdated and unfit for modern era. Proponents argue that a modification to the charter can increase economic growth, attract foreign investment, and generate job opportunities.

This action would be a great opportunity for the Philippines to improve its economic status if and only if the revision’s objective will only focus on the betterment of the Philippines, with no hidden agenda of prolonging the term.

DepEd: Gradual Return of the School Calendar

The COVID-19 pandemic drastically changed the school calendar in the Philippines, leading to a new normal filled with difficulties as schools struggled to adapt to remote learning and adjust their schedules to cope with the disruptions caused by the crisis. Now that we are slowly going back to the traditional normal, the talk about returning the school calendar to June-April is widespread. This adjustment will benefit everyone since it will spare us from the intense heat we endured last year in May 2023, which was supposed to be our school break. The extreme heat led to many people falling ill, fainting, and even students feeling compelled to skip class due to the unbearable heat at school.

Vacation for the current school year will come early for students in basic education after the Department of Education (DepEd) announced the adjusted end-of-school-year break. The End of School Year (EOSY) originally scheduled from June 17 to August 25, 2024 was adjusted to June 1 to July 26, 2024, according to DepEd Order No. 003 series of 2024 signed by Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte dated Feb. 19. DepEd also announced that, for SY 2023-2024, the last day of school will be on May 31, 2024, instead of the previously scheduled June 14. Duterte said the adjustment in the school calendar was in line with the commitment of DepEd to prioritize the “health, safety and well-being of learners and teachers.” This, DepEd added, is also part of efforts to recognize the “clamor to gradually revert to the school calendar to the pre-pandemic opening of classes.” This movement, which aims to gradually return to the usual April to May break, is a great news for students, teachers, and the whole school staffs as it prioritizes health and safety while addressing the clamor for a more familiar school calendar.

Adjusting the school calendar to prioritize health and safety is a great movement. This shift not only addresses the immediate concerns of students and teachers but also aligns with the broader aim of returning to a more familiar and sustainable educational framework, ultimately benefiting everyone involved. Despite the potential for rushed lessons and incomplete discussions due to the adjusted school calendar, the decision remains commendable as it prioritizes the immediate well-being of students and teachers, fostering a healthier learning environment in the long run.

EMPOWERING EDUCATORS

The praiseworthy plan of the World Bank to give pay hike to the teachers will surely provide them with a better financial stability and finally give them the appropriate payment for the things that they do and the time they sacrifice.

As stated by DepEd spokesperson, Undersecretary Michael Poa, the results of the study being conducted by the world bank that will determine if there will be a substantial increase in the salary of teachers will be released in a few weeks. This indicates that there is still a chance that the teachers in our country will actually be paid with their deserved salary.

Furthermore, House Bill 9920 proposed by Makabayan Bloc seeks to raise the minimum salary of teachers to 50,000 pesos, more than double the salary of public-school teachers today, as teachers can only perform well if the economic and professional rights are addressed properly. With their massive workloads and many hours in school, the current salary for the teacher undermines the amount of work that they do, tirelessly educating students in order to give them a chance to achieve their dreams.

Despite the things they do, some may say that a salary hike is unnecessary and the country should just focus its funds in more important aspects like making buildings and creating new roads, however our educators are the ones that build our society. They work tirelessly while having inadequate salary to nurture the young minds of students and build them as future leaders of our nation, the salary hike isn’t only a numerical aspect, it is also a form of acknowledgement tot eh educators role in shaping our society.

To sum up, increasing the wage of the teachers is not only a way of thanking them, but also a way of showing recognition to their invaluable sacrifices and contributions to society. We must take this opportunity in order to seize a bright and prosperous future for all

Power of Preparedness

The nations safety is the top priority of our president. As war and crisis is truly unpredictable, our military forces should advance in equipment in order to ensure the security of our mother land.

As President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. approved the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) “Re-Horizon 3”, this program will take 10 years to be fully achieved. This will include the modernizations of the equipment, addition of troupes, upgrading arsenal, and enhancing training grounds. It also aims to the betterment of the current state of our military troupes. The budget that was allotted in this program costs for about Php 2 trillion to support the needs of every military branch.

To start with, we cannot really determine if a war is coming towards our territory, therefore our military troupes should be prepared especially in terms of equipment. As the tension between China and Philippines continues, we are not able to just rely on the support of other countries. In addition, the Republic Act No. 10349 mandates that the Armed Forces of the Philippines should be able to strengthen their side in order to ensure that the arsenal defense could keep up once a potential war might start inside the correlations of the Republic.

At the same time, I disagree with the fact that its allotted budget was triple times bigger than other departments. Simply because this budget might get corrupted like what happened on the late budget of AFP, which was estimated to be Php 25 million, and it eventually disappeared at their hands. There were no traces whether where the money went, and the officials suddenly went silent about what happened. Their equipment is conceivably expensive but with corrupt politicians and officials on board the budget will surely get bagged and wasted.

Furthermore, government should not just focus their attention and budget to a specific department because this causes unbalanced management. Giving such a massive amount of budget on AFP will cause scrutiny with regards to the 2024 budgeting system of the country. If they are able to grant this program for the defense troupes, they should also be able to pay attention to the quality of education and bring a solution in the crisis of our country’s agriculture.

Nonetheless, this program was created to ensure the safety of our country. Still, there is nothing wrong with it; change is necessary, but in a corrupt society, it is hard to achieve.

REGAL Majesty: Firefly

Tangled Thorns, Love Lorns FEATURE

Clock is ticking, time is running. The dice are rolling, chances are coming. What is the probability of getting an ace in a deck of cards? What is the likelihood that the stars will align for us? You moved your chess pieces right, pawns were placed, ready to fight. Indeed, a queen.

Positioning the pieces. In the heart of Nueva Ecija, where the sun kisses the rice fields and the winds whisper tales of resilience, there exist a guiding firefly, providing a light of hope to the disheartened ones, a spark thriving to be a lawyer named Jemiah Janine E. Valdez was born. A venturer scout by heart, a council scout representative by duty, and an outstanding Novo Ecijano scout by virtue, Jemiah’s journey is one of the books, a journey filled with dedication, compassion, and courage. She is a harbinger of change, a steadfast advocate for the voiceless youth. With her advocacy, “TANGLAW: Ang Kutitap ng munting Pangarap”, she stands as a glitter of hope on the dreams and aspirations of the unheard ones, the neglected ones, echoing their voices in the corridors of power.

Laying the pawns. Jemiah’s voyage in scouting began as a spark of curiosity amidst the lush landscapes of Aliaga, Nueva Ecija. From the tender age of a Scout Member, she embarked on a quest for self-discovery, guided by the principles of scouting -- duty to others, reverence for nature, and the pursuit of knowledge. Little did she know that this journey would lead her to become a symbol of inspiration for countless young hearts.

Striking a move. In the greenery field of Nueva Ecija, Jemiah witnessed the struggles of the deprived youth firsthand-- dreams deferred by poverty, voices stifled by inequality, and the stereotyping of when you are young, you know nothing. Determined to make a difference she founded TANGLAW, a grassroots movement she dedicated to nurturing the dreams of the undeserved youth. Jemiah’s visionary leadership advocacy aims to transform dreams into realities, empowering the youth to break free from the shackles of circumstance and reach for the stars.

Protecting the queen. Yet, just like any other stars and light, she was burnt out. She was exhausted. She was at the verge of giving up, however, just like her advocacy, someone stood beside her as her guiding light. Taming her raging waves of thoughts. Calming the wild voices on her head. “Lord is my foundation,” she said. With her undying faith for Him, her sea of thoughts calmed down, promising her a brighter and better tomorrow. Leading her way with… tanglaw.

All set. A fleeting moment. A movie scene. Awarding of STONES is one of the memorable moments she’ll forever reminisce. From the way she doubted herself, to the way she strides the carpeted floor as her name was called. An Outstanding Novo Ecijano Scout. Who would’ve thought that a small woman could possess such great power? She stands tall as a testament to the power of change. Through her advocacy, she has not only illuminated the dreams of the youth but also ignites a flame of inspiration that will continue to burn across Nueva Ecija.

I once thought that the queen was a butterfly, for it symbolizes beauty, grace, and transformation. Just as butterfly flutters from flower to flower, spreading beauty and pollinating life, a queen can influence her kingdom with her presence, actions, and decisions. I also thought that the queen was an eagle, for she holds power, strength, and majesty; as an eagle is known for its keen eyesight, leadership, and ability to soar to great heights, a queen often represents authority, vision, and ability to lead her people. As she regally gazed upon the horizon, and saw a future where every voice is herd, every dream is nurtured, and every heart is filled with hope, I’ve come to realized that the queen is a firefly, as she serves as the glowing light with her ephemeral beauty, and radiating power. Small yet powerful. Checkmate.

“I’m in the field of dandelions, wishing on everyone that you’d be mine… ~” In the garden of life, love is often likened to a delicate dandelion, its ethereal beauty captivating hearts and souls with its fleeting presence. Much like the gentle puff of a dandelion’s seeds carried away by the wind, love has a transient nature that defies containment, leaving behind traces of its essence long after its departure.

I can still remember that day… when everything felt like a fantasy realm, stupefying me like how the field of dandelions mesmerizes me. February 14, 2012.Tuesday. 7:38 PM. Everything feels so vivid, just how our laughter echoes across the corridor, how you pout your lips when I felt shy after receiving the bouquet of white chrysanthemum—my favorite—you hand-picked at your grandma’s house, and how I whispered the eight-letter word over your ear. I love you. Innocent and cloud nine, feathery like symphonies of Valentine’s Day.

Love is as vibrant and colorful as a dandelion field in full bloom. Each interaction, each moment shared with you, adds a new hue to the canvas of my heart. Like the varied shades of yellow that dance across the dandelion field, love paints my world with warmth and joy, infusing even the darkest of days with a radiant glow.

Breathtaking, and ethereal. Love whispers to me like the breeze of whimsical dandelion field. Zephyr feeling of the love month. Yet, just as a dandelion’s delicate petals are easily scattered by the slightest breeze, so too can love be fragile and vulnerable to the whims of fate. Despite our best efforts to nurture and protect it, love often eludes our grasp, slipping through our fingers like wisps of smoke. February 14, 2017.Tuesday.12:00 MN. Everything feels so vivid, just how our eyes flicker pain, tiredness, and suffocation, how tears trickled down my face after receiving my favorite flower— white chrysanthemum, and how I whispered the eight-letter word over your ear. I am sorry. Sinful and miserable, melancholic harmonies of Valentine’s Day.

Love did appear as beautiful as a field of dandelions in full bloom, its vibrant colors and delicate petals masking the underlying destruction. But just as the dandelion’s beauty belies its invasive nature, so too can love’s allure be deceiving. Behind the facade of romance and passion, lies the potential for heartache and devastation, a reminder that love is not always as gentle as it seems. Like the dandewlion’s roots that burrowed deeply, love’s grip can sometimes be painful, tearing at the very fabric of our being. It is in this agony of attachment that we confront the darker side of love, grappling with the scars it leaves behind long after the bloom has faded.

An empty stomach was as frequent as a dripping faucet!

My whole self eventually fainted when the disappointment in this evolving world strikes down into my personal identity. I was very disappointed when I’ve realized that our society is ran by insane people for insane objectives. It made my charming eyes into teary sense of sight. I was incapable of doing what makes me happy. It felt like I don’t have any freedom. You can see the royal blood families utilizing the money for people on non sense things. Feeding their ego and benefitting themselves. My eyes were getting itchy. My mind was overloading of suicidal thoughts. Losing my hope that this wouldn’t be resolved.

It was all because of you! How long I’d be involved by this relentless agony? Please stop! Please stop destroying us, poverty! I sigh as I could noticed the excruciating scars you’ve made in our habitat. I was confused. I can’t stop thinking how to save the helpless people. What I have done to make myself out of place? You’ve destroyed the serene place of living. The children can’t almost breathe, you can see the hunger with their faces. A pitiful face of seeking for financial attention. Is there any avoidants to prevent you spreading? You’re not even a epidemic virus, but you sting like a poisonous cactus!

As I’ve watched the television, the novel news made me flabbergasted. The people in our country was protesting due to the speed of inflation. As I’ve heard, they can’t even buy a small slice of bread because of the severe poverty. I was in a point to approach my parents and help those whose in needs. But, my intrusive thoughts stopped me. At the moment, I’ve realized that it’s the government’s responsibility. But why they didn’t even take an initiatives? Furthermore, as I looked on the broad sky, a flashbacks targeted my delusional mind. I remember all the good times of many people. You can tell the vibrant smiles on their faces. Showing that they used to be happy. The prices are low while the groceries are cheap. To the point that you can buy a worth food in just a peso. It was lovely to reminisce people enjoying their lives. But everything has changed when the economy slowly losing their essence. The poverty has arrived and even the powerful person in the society can’t stop this. Because they were the one who started it. This is the everest of all the problems, the thorniest challenge facing humankind! Hence, we’re blinded of the corruption that made by the so called leaders. Am I too late to take a meaning actions? Am I the one who will cure the greatest virus among the world? An empty stomach was as frequent as dripping faucet. Brought by the rigorous malady of economy, the poverty!

Growing with the Flow

“News Flash: A girl found dead in her apartment bed!”

In the quiet corners of my mind, battles are fought that often go unnoticed by the world. Whimpers, cries, and screams inside my head were playing back like a broken record tape that once shouted a melodious tune— calming, and peaceful. Struggling with the shadows of darkness and melancholy, I found myself on the precipice of despair. Like a vibrant palette, my emotions were like a solid hue, contributing to the paragon of my mental landscape.

Sleepless nights. I can’t remember how many sleepless nights I’ve spent. The feeling of loneliness and grief. Blue, sad, and forlorn. How many words should I use to express what I really feel? How many times should I say that I’m tired of everything? My screams and shouts seem nothing! Who could’ve listened to me? From the bold strokes of joy to the subtle shades of sorrow, depression came as a living, breathing creation, screaming so loud yet unheard.

Aghast and stuck at the shadows of my own life. Drowned and lost. Gone with the voices echoing in my mind. Deep and wild. Too scary to face even it isn’t alive. I’m tired! I’m at the verge of giving up and falling apart yet I saw a light, a vibrant hue that flickered in my eyes, a hope. Like a powerful force pulling me from the deep abyss of thoughts, it slowly tamed my wild waves

Painting Outside the Lines

Once in a while, have you ever thought about what life is like without holding back?

of emotions. The voices stopped, a delicate symphony of serenity and tranquility prevailed over the unwanted thoughts, transcending the shadows. Finally, I’m at peace. The fading colors of joy and hope were now shining brightly. The world where the stigmas surrounding mental health dissipate like a morning mist, replaced by a chorus of understanding and empathy. The vision I saw were now like a growing movement I strive to achieve— where mental health is not confined to the whispers of discomfort but is celebrated as an integral part of our society. In the kaleidoscope of stories woven into the fabric of my mental health, tales of resilience, triumph, and hope were now blooming— breaking the silence that has shrouded my thoughts for far too long.

“You are a disappointment!”

One word, and now I’m back at square one. Tik. Tok. Tik. Tok. The clock is ticking, still sending unwanted thoughts and disappointing feelings. Hope, light, and faith were now quickly fading. Hands in my head, mixed thoughts are filling. Deep breathing. Inhale and Exhale. I found myself standing on a chair, reaching for the thread of life, embracing and tying it around my being 'til the voices in my head stopped. Dead.

I miss the times where I was still a little girl, and I believe that you do too. I long for my childhood, the times when having a different skin colour from everyone else doesn’t change how beautiful we are, how chocolates aren’t still “too sweet” for us, when we believed that Santa is real and there are ghosts that will pick us up if we stay past our bedtime… when our little selves view life as an empty canvas waiting to be filled with vibrant hues of colors with us being the artists, splashing colours to it without restraint and reveling in the unbridled joy of reckless abandon, an ode to the freedom we had in our childhood—the times when painting outside the lines does not matter at all.

Our life is our own canvas, and we are the assigned artists of it, we are the one in charge of how we will fill the blank and void canvas with colours. Will it be red? blue? perhaps… yellow? or maybe a mix of it all? Indeed, we are the ones in charge of our own life and how we want it to turn to as, but with the people’s discerning gaze, it became a grave challenge as they greatly affect how we manipulate our brush strokes, how we color our canvas of life. One thing I learned in the process of it is that with each stroke of brush comes with a great responsibility, for if they ought to see a stroke of brush in your canvas that is deemed to be unpleasant in their eyes, you will be judged, and perhaps, be a laughingstock and mocked. “Just keep painting, just keep painting. Paint, paint, paint. Never go beyond the lines.” are one of the phrases I have repeated in my head as if I am uttering a sacred prayer and manifestation, I continued painting my canvas not with how I like it, but how people tell me to.

As we stand as one, painting outside the lines once again will symbolize as an act of defiance against the society dictating you of what to do to your life, of how you should color it. Each stroke will symbolize independence and rebellion of breaking free from the chains, a life time commitment of living authentically in a world that often dictates conformity. Live your life in your own terms, never be afraid to paint it the way you want to, rediscover the hues you once used and make your life one of a kind, let your brush glide to the familiar boarders we once believed was forbidden to cross to, let your brush, once again, create a masterpiece in this monochromatic world.

As an artist, my heart yearns to spread vibrant colours once again outside the lines, and I will, despite the watchful gazes of people around me. What about you? Are you willing to?

Loss of Memory

Don't forget to mention "Dementia".

Do you still remember what you did last year? You already forgot, didn't you? But that's okay, what's not okay is when you're constantly forgetting something. Memory loss is unusual forgetfulness. You may not be able to remember new events, recall one or more memories of the past or both.

leading the loss of the ability to carry on a conversation and respond to the environment. Alzheimer's disease involves parts of the brain that control thought, memory, and language. According to National Institute of Health (NIH), age-related changes, along with genetic and lifestyle factors are causes of Alzheimer's. To begin with, one of the mysteries of

influenced by multiple genes in combination with lifestyle and environmental factors. Changes in genes, called genetic variations, may increase or decrease a person's risk of developing the disease.

I remember watching a show when I was a kid. The show brings great entertainment by having a big happy family in their program. I was jealous of how happy they are, the suddenly, the mother on the show got Alzheimer's disease. They didn't know what to expect because their mother who once loved them very much can't even remember who they are. That made me very sad.

Loving someone but at what cause with memory loss.

Someone forgetting you is very heart shattering. Hence, we should understand what our loved ones with Alzheimer's disease is going through. Everyone suffer from short-term memory loss, but love is the only memory one never loses.

Overweighting means Death Portraying

Blame you for Bulimia!

As I watched the actor from the television have a roller coaster of emotion, I reached over the remote to get a snack and realized that I already finished a lot. I love binge-watching movies while eating snacks, don't you love it too?

Obesity is commonly defined as having too much body mass. It is also considered as a chronic disease with several causes that leads to excessive body fat and sometimes, poor health. Body fat itself is not a disease, of course. But when your body has too much extra fat, it can change the way it functions.

Moreover, there are various of activities that caus-

es Obesity, such as Food and Daily Activities. The first one is Foods, doctors recommend people to limit foods and beverages with added sugars, solid fats, or sodium. In addition, activities that causes obesity and limiting foods are like peas in a pod. Doctors also recommend that we should create or modify environment to make it easier for people to do health activities such as walking, exercising, or biking everyday. They also stated that people should avoid activities such as binge-eating because it causes Bulimia. Furthermore, Bulimia is an eating disorder. It is characterized by uncontrolled episodes of overeating also called bingeing. This is followed by purging, self-induced vomiting, misuse of lax-

atives, and other methods.

As I reminisce someone from the past, I remembered how much he loved eating. He's stuffing his mouth with food whenever I'm with him. Although the naked eye can see all of his actions, he still blamed their genetics for loving food too much. He soon realized though and acted right, doing things such as balancing foods and exercising.

Overweight? Wait! Do something.

Hence, Obesity is a problem that nearly every nation in the world is facing. But there is much that we can do to fix it. Act right, eat right, and live a happy and healthy life!

Producing Enough Insulin

DIE-abetes, balance your insulin entreaties.

I can't resist the taste of sweets, neither can you, right? Eating sugary foods can really bring you to a magical place, as well as to the hospital. When a person's body does not produce enough insulin or their cells do not respond to the hormones appropriately, this causes blood glucose levels to become too high.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood glucose.

According to CDC or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are two types of diabetes but not one is dangerous than the other, because both of them are. The first one is Type 1 Diabetes, it is thought to be caused by an autoimmune reaction (the body attacks itself by mistake). This reaction stops your body from making insulin. In addition, Type 1 Diabetes can be diagnosed at any age, up until now, no one knows how to prevent Type 1 Diabe-

tes. Meanwhile, with Type 2 Diabetes, your body just doesn't use insulin well and can't keep blood sugar at normal level. Type 2 Diabetes can be prevented or delayed with healthy lifestyle changes.

I remember the day when I witnessed my grandmother pricked herself with a needle. I asked her what it was and she responded that it was a device for her diabetes. It controls her blood sugar and it tells her whether it's high or low. She told me how hard it was to have diabetes, however, I was too young to understand. Looking back at that moment right now made me realize that it isn't easy for people who have diabetes.

Type 1 or 2, they're both the type that kill.

Hence, when your pancreas does not produce much insulin, you might have the infamous diabetes. You have to act right and live a healthy lifestyle. Trying to manage diabetes is hard because if you don't, there are consequences you'll have to deal with later in life.

Breathing Difficulty

Survivor of Cancer

Ask me about Asthma! How often do you feel tightness in your chest?

Asthma runs in my family, I feel the shortness of breath all the time. Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Characterized by inflammation and narrowing of the airways, asthma can cause recurring episodes of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. Moreover, there are various causes of asthma.

First are environmental factors, exposure to allergens such as pollen, dust mites, pet dander, mold, and air pollution can trigger asthma symptoms. Second is respiratory infections, viral respiratory infections, particularly during early childhood, can increase the risk of developing asthma. Lastly, genetics, asthma tends to run in families, suggesting a genetic predisposition to the condition. I see my classmates having fun in Physical Edu-

cation every day. I can’t participate due to the situation that I have asthma, I feel out of breath whenever I use a lot of energy. It’s really sad missing out on all the fun.

I hope I can do something about it and make having asthma fun. Hence, while asthma is a chronic condition that requires ongoing management, with the right treatment plan and lifestyle modifications, individuals with asthma can lead active and fulfilling lives.

Survivor for the Better!

Imagine having a disease that is caused by the body's cells growing uncontrollably and spreading to others parts of the body. How brave are cancer survivors?

Cancer is a disease in which some of the body’s cells grow uncontrollably and spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can start almost anywhere in the human body, which is made up of trillions of cells. Human cells grow and multiply through a process called cell division to form new cells as the body needs them. When cells grow old or become damaged, they die, and new cells take their place.

According to Frontiers Organization, there is a positive side of cancer which is it's survivor. Cancer survivors are increasing by large numbers. There are three ways to survive cancer. First is to adopt a healthy lifestyle, it can significantly reduce the risk of developing cancer. This includes maintaining a balanced diet

rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins while limiting processed foods, red meats, and sugary beverages. In addition, protecting your skin from harmful UV radiation is essential for preventing skin cancer, the most common type of cancer worldwide. Last but not the least, screening and vaccination, regular cancer screenings can help detect cancer at an early, more treatable stage or even prevent cancer altogether by identifying precancerous cells.

As I've heard over the radio, a patient diagnosed with cancer was really hoping that she will be cured, and she did. She was fueled with determination to see the sun rise again and one day she already was cancer free. She was very proud to say that she's a cancer survivor. Hence, a human is stronger than anyone and anything. Whatever happens to us, we can always overcome it. Cancer can't cripple our hope.

eyes. Onions, on the other hand, may have some health benefits.

include lowering the risk of certain cancers, improv-

ing mood, and maintaining skin and hair health. The researchers discovered that those who regularly consumed allium vegetables, such as onions, had a 79% lower risk of colorectal cancer. Onions, as a good source of vitamin C, may aid in the formation and maintenance of collagen. Collagen gives skin and hair a structure.

Onions are a nutrient-dense food, which means they have a high vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant content while being low in calories. Onions are really helpful to us we may not aware of it, but instead of thinking that onions only add flavouring to foods think that it can help you to be healthier and enjoy your life happier and better. Did you remember when was the first-time onion make you tears?

Game On: The Fall of eSports on the Olympic Stage

Traditionalists in competitive sports frequently have doubts about eSports, doubting their legitimacy and if they belong among more traditional sports. But as society changes and technology develops, the lines separating the real world from the virtual world become hazier, which forces us to reconsider what exactly qualifies as competition and athleticism. The argument for eSports’ participation in the Olympics has heated up as a result of its explosive growth in popularity and undeniable attraction on a worldwide scale.

ic skill. They act as a forum for cross-cultural dialogue, promoting international harmony and understanding. eSports, with its wide-ranging player base and global presence, perfectly captures this spirit of international collaboration. In a world where technology is erasing boundaries, the Olympic movement would be represented by its embrace of eSports as a sign of inclusivity and growth.

The physicality and athleticism often associated with Olympic sports, according to critics, are absent from eSports. Though they may not have the same physical attributes as weightlifters or sprinters, eSports players do have a special set of talents that call for remarkable reflexes, hand-eye coordination, mental toughness, and strategic thinking. Similar to traditional sports, becoming proficient in these demands’ years of dedication, training, and discipline.

Training and courage are the investments of athletes to gain self-confidence and faith to give strength and intelligence to those above.

Their skill and determination in the game to represent our beloved school of Aliaga National High School cannot be compared.

SPORTS TRIVIA

Volleyball - two teams of six players each compete and use their bodies to control the ball in a non-intrusive net sport. It began in Springfield, Massachusetts (USA) in 1895. When the game was introduced to YMCA directors in 1896, the original term “mintonette” was changed to “volley the ball.”

Basketball - a team sport that is played on a rectangular court with a raised goal or basket at each end. Teams of two to five players each attempt to score points by tossing the ball through the opponent’s basket. James Naismith created this sport in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1891

Sepak Takraw - a Southeast Asian game originating in Malaysia, is played with a rattan ball woven without hands, resembling volleyball. It gained recognition in 1965.

Billiards - a term used to describe various cue sports, involves players hitting billiard balls using a cue stick. The late 1600s saw the development of the cue stick, which was difficult to use near rails. The handle, called a “queue,” is where the word “cue” originates. Lawn tennis and table tennis are similar games.

Badminton - a racquet sport from Siam, China, originated over 2,000 years ago, was introduced to England in 1870, and has been popular in America since 1929.

Golf - originated on Scotland’s east coast, where participants hit stones with bent sticks or clubs over sand dunes and tracks.

Baseball - the national pastime of the United States, is believed to have originated from an 18th century English game called rounders, altered by Alexander Cartwright.

Soccer - the world’s most popular sport, involves two teams of eleven players on a grass field with goals. Invented by the Aztecs 2000 years ago, professional soccer teams have existed in England since the 1800s.

Furthermore, there has always been more to the Olympic Games than merely athlet-

Maintaining honesty and fair play—values inherent to the Olympic ethos—will be crucial. Clear rules and regulations, together with strong anti-doping procedures, are necessary for eSports to maintain the integrity and sportsmanship that are essential to the Olympic concept. Adopting eSports might also revitalize the Olympic Games and draw in a younger viewership. If younger people continue to watch fewer conventional sports, the Olympics run the risk of losing relevance over time. Through the incorporation of eSports, the Olympics can maintain its cultural significance for years to come and remain relevant in a world that is changing quickly.
