Overview
Founded in 1997, Jerudong International School (JIS) is a large, well-established and well-resourced coeducational day & boarding school offering both a British and International Baccalaureate curricula to over 1680 students aged 2-18. As the leading independent school in Brunei, JIS serves both Bruneian and expatriate families. Eligible Bruneian students receive Ministry of Education Scholarships, which fund





their secondary and tertiary education. JIS follows a northern hemisphere academic year of August to July, and the JIS school year has three terms. The highly qualified teaching staff is drawn primarily from the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. All teachers are university graduates, most hold postgraduate qualifications and a number hold doctorates.








Academic Programmes: British GCE A Level, International Baccalaureate Diploma & BTEC
Typical for a UK curriculum school, the final two years of senior school (Years 12 and 13) are known as the “Sixth Form”, during which most students take the International/General Certi fi cate of Education Advanced Levels, or A Levels. Entry to the Sixth Form is selective; enrolment in A Level courses is conditional on students gaining a B grade or higher in the subject at International General Certifi cate of Secondary Education (I/GCSE), or Ordinary Level. Students follow a two year A Level course in Years 12 and 13 and receive their final A Level grades in the August after completing Year 13.

In addition to taking 3 or more A Level subjects, all Year 12 students complete a Core Curriculum Programme focusing on study skills and have the option to complete an extended project qualification.
Another course offered is the International BTEC in Creative Media (Extended Diploma). This is a 100% coursework based subject, with no examinations.

Jerudong International School also offers the International Baccalaureate as a full diploma programme. Students take three subjects at Higher Level (HL) and three subjects at Standard Level (SL), in addition to the Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity and Service components. Students following the IB Diploma Programme receive their results in the July after completing Year 13.

Although community service is not required for graduation (with the exception of the IB’s CAS requirement), all students in the Sixth Form are encouraged to pursue a service activity. In their own time, students commit to school and wider community projects, including charity work in Cambodia, China, and Sabah (Malaysia), as well as assisting staff in organising extracurricular activities and environmental programmes. Approximately 35% of the graduating class takes part in the Duke of Edinburgh International Gold Award.
