HIGHER EDUCATION OVERVIEW 2025-2026

Overview

Founded in 1997, Jerudong International School (JIS) is a large, well-established and well-resourced coeducational day & boarding school offering both a British and International Baccalaureate curricula to almost 1700 students aged 2-18. As the leading independent school in Brunei, JIS serves both Bruneian and expatriate families. Eligible Bruneian students receive Ministry of Education Scholarships, which fund

their secondary and tertiary education. JIS follows a northern hemisphere academic year of August to July, and the JIS school year has three terms. The highly qualified teaching staff is drawn primarily from the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. All teachers are university graduates, most hold postgraduate qualifications and a number hold doctorates.

Academic Programmes: British GCE A Level, International Baccalaureate Diploma & BTEC

Typical for a UK curriculum school, the final two years of senior school (Years 12 and 13) are known as the “Sixth Form”, during which most students take the International/General Certificate of Education Advanced Levels, or A Levels. Entry to the Sixth Form is selective; enrolment in A Level courses is conditional on students gaining a B grade or higher in the subject at International General Certificate of Secondary Education (I/ GCSE), or Ordinary Level. Students follow a two year A Level course in Years 12 and 13 and receive their final A Level grades in the August after completing Year 13.
