DESIGN STATEMENT

In the Malaysian education system, arts education has been lacking in terms of public confidence of a promising future, positive outlook and attention, and proper resources. Furthermore, there is a lack of active learning and more of a “spoon feeding” system towards teaching in the local scene. This creates an issue in which students may not be enthusiastic learners; students who are interested in an arts career are not properly introduced and educated of it.

The Lego Foundation is an N.G.O promoting its motto of “playful learning”, which it believes in empowering children to be creative, engaged, lifelong learners, by building a future of learning through play. Together with integrating arts into playful learning, Art-ivator is a space for children to be inspired by interactions, create and explore in different mediums, and exhibit their works. It is a multisensory learning space, namely of visual, tactile and kinesthetic, which makes learning engaging.

Together with the playful learning space, is the office integrated into it. The “Intelligence Bureau” strives to be the solution to a new typology of post pandemic office, which shifts towards a more flexible, collaborative and sustainable space. In Art-ivator, the office focuses on 4 types of spaces, which are Fuel, Focus, Break, Collaborate, in degrees of privacy levels, and for every number of users. This is to achieve maximum productivity and wellbeing of staff.

REFLECTION

The MLE is overall a great learning experience and a satisfaction of achieving one goal together for me. Although I took part in lesser role than the leader, I learnt that I can also give good feedback and input into the discussion during the meetings. Moreover, by taking part into the discussion in meetings gives me the opportunity to learn about how

other schools

function, think, and work, which in turn provides different perspectives and solution when we were looking at a problem.

The challenges I encounter working with other schools would be to manage time,
