Church History Summary The history of First Baptist Church of Chesterfield (FBCC) began in 1846. Prior to 1846, Christian-minded slaves belonging to Maria Long were allowed to worship with their owners.

In 1846, Maria Long made a contract and granted a designated plot of ground whereby slaves could build a church of their own. The first church was a log cabin constructed by men and women from miles around who worked together to build it. Our heavenly Father blessed these unselfish, sacrificing Christians in December of 1875, when the land was given to the congregation. The Berean District Association was organized at FBCC in 1878.

In 1911, another frame building was erected under the pastorate of Rev. Baines. Seventeen pastors served the church between 1911 and 1975. In May of 1974, under the pastorate of Rev. Theoplis Peoples, Jr., negotiations began on the construction of a new church, which was completed in June of 1975. Rev. Darryl C. Johnson served as pastor from 1987 to 1989. In 1990, Rev. Robert F. Loggins, Sr. was called to Pastor, and under his leadership, the current edifice was completed in 1996. Dr. T.D. (Judy) Stubblefield assumed the pastorate of FBCC on February 6, 2000, until his retirement in March 2020. Under his leadership, over 300 new members and several new ministries were added to our church family. We continued to move “Forward in Faith” and make disciples for Jesus Christ, Matthew 28:18-20. We became a “ Local Church with a Global Mission.”

In April of 2020, following the retirement of Dr. Stubblefield, Assistant Pastor Christopher L. Rogers, Sr., assumed the role of Interim Pastor. As Interim Pastor, he successfully transitioned the congregation to the FBCC Online Campus for Sunday Morning Worship and weekly Christian education classes during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, Interim Pastor Chris launched an initiative to update the unprecedented virtual needs and share the gospel worldwide, all while nurturing the spiritual growth of our Faith Family.

On September 24, 2022, Pastor Christopher (Tamra) Rogers, Sr. was called to serve as the 21st Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Chesterfield. Pastor Chris has committed his ministry to “Community, Relationships, Evangelism, Worship, and Discipleship” as he is “Chosen to Surrender and Covered to Serve” - Joshua 1:8-9.

Christian Bible Christian Bible Training Training Fellowship (CBTF) Fellowship (CBTF) All new members must complete the six-week Christian Bible Training Fellowship (CBTF) classes. The CBTF class is from 8:30-9:30 A.M. each Sunday morning.

You will start your CBTF class the next Sunday after you join. Cardiac Emergency Response Team (CERT) The CERT is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all staff, volunteers, church members, and visitors. Members of the CERP are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and first aid, and are designated to respond to any emergency.
