Israel Will Strike the Terrorists Anywhere Tel Aviv (JTA) - Gen. David Elazar, Israel's Chief of Staff, warned that Israel will continue to strike at terrorists anywhere in the world, including " pre-emptive strikes. "We do not have to restrict , ourselves to retaliatory actions. Conference Bans Soviet Scientists New York (JTA) — Three prominent American scientists who just returned from the In-, ternational Conference on Magnetism in Moscow said that . ;they were "shocked that qualified Jewish colleagues were barred." The three scientists, Dr. Fred Pollack, professor of physics at Yeshiva and Brown Universities, Dr. EarlCallen, professor of physics at the American University in Washington, and Prof. Robert Birgeeau of Bell Laboratories, made this report at a press conference held by the Committee of Concerned Scientists and the National Conference on Soviet Jewry. ',.'•'•' Prof. Aleksandr Voronel, together with Prof. Mark Azbel and Prof Moisei Gitterman, were the three Jews denied admission to the conference. They are eminent Soviet Jewish scientists presently unemployed, -who~have-beeh-seeking-in-vain to emigrate to Israel.. Pinchas Spiro Assumes Post As Cantor for Tifereth Israel Des Moines — Elliot Brody, President of Tifereth Israel Synagogue has announced the appointment of Hazzan' Pinchas Spiro as the new Cantor of the congregation. Hazzan Spiro was born and raised in the Old City of Jerusalem; He graduated from the Mizrachi Teacher's College and from the Jerusalem Conservatory of Music. In this country, he continued musical education at the Juilliard School of Music and ho holds a music degree from Syracuse University. A lyric tenor, Hazzan Spiro combines in his cantoral singing the traditional. emotional fervor of his", Hassidic background along with the high musical standards of his professional training. He is an acknowledged authority among the cantors of America in the area of musical education for the synagogue youth.
