CSULB Jewish Studies Program

The horrible events of October 7 and the terrible consequences that followed them have profoundly affected all of us. To better understand what happened and why, the CSULB Jewish Studies Program is partnering with the Academic Engagement Network to bring in speakers who will help us gain that understanding.

Monday, March 18, 12:00 pm, CSULB Anatol Center; Monday, March 18, 7:00 pm, Alpert JCC on the Weinberg Jewish Long Beach Campus Dr. Amy Elman will speak on the subject of “Violence Against Women in the Hamas/ Israel Conflict.” Dr. Elman is a professor of Political Science at Kalamazoo College and is the author of several books, including Sexual Equality in an Integrated Europe and The European Union, Antisemitism, and the Politics of Denial. Wednesday, April 10, 9:00 am, CSULB Anatol Center via Zoom Dr. Sara Hirschhorn is a visiting assistant professor of History at the University of Haifa and is the author of City on a Hilltop: American Jews and the Israeli Settler Movement. She is currently in Haifa, Israel. Her topic will be “Zionism and its Critics.” Her talk is free and open to the public; No reservations are necessary.
