Get to Know Lenore “Bubbie” Roth
Alpert JCC Early Childhood Education Center
Tell us about yourself:
My name is Lenore, but the students call me “Bubbie Roth.” My grandchildren went to the Alpert JCC ECE. I moved to Long Beach from the Valley in 2014 to be closer to my grandchildren. In our ECE Judaic Studio, I create provocations that revolve around current Jewish holidays or concepts. I use flannel board stories, books, props, and songs appropriate to each age group. We learn the significance of each holiday, why we celebrate or acknowledge them, and how we can incorporate these teachings into our daily lives.
What was your journey to the J?
I picked up my grandkids and I fell in love with the J. When I walked in, I literally said, “I’m going to work here.” I was hired in December 2015.
What do you love the most about the J?
The sense of Mishpachot (family) and diversity that surrounds the J. The members, my coworkers, and the families.
How long have you been an educator?
Since 1975. I have taught every age group in early childhood from Toddlers to Pre-K!
What do you love most about your role?
I love it when I hear that the children go home and share their learning experience that they had with me, with their family. I also love spending time with them in the Judaic room, creating new experiences for them to explore. I have many special bonds with our families and children in the ECE, and I love seeing them at events. It’s the best feeling in the world!
What other roles do you have at the J?
I help with senior lunch every other Wednesday and the children join me in singing with the seniors with the Barbara Alpert singing group. The seniors love it when we get to join them! I am an active volunteer with Jewish life and culture programs, and I love helping the teachers get our kiddos to sleep during nap time. I absolutely love what I do. I am blessed to have the ability to impact lives daily.
