Give the Gift of Life

Give the Gift of Life

Jewish Long Beach

Dear Community, Kevin O'Grady needs a liver transplant. Kevin, his husband Craig, and their son Asher have been active members of our community for years. Kevin served as an AJCC board member and Executive Director for the Long Beach/Orange County region of ADL, while Craig served as a Jewish Federation board member for many years. Their son, Asher, grew up in our ECE classrooms and as a camper at Camp Komaroff. Kevin has been living with liver disease for quite a while, and now he has reached a point where he needs a transplant, so they are actively searching for a donor. Any help is greatly appreciated for Kevin and his family.

What to Know

  • Potential donor(s) will be connected directly to Kevin’s doctors at USC Keck Medical Center to be screened. Potential donor(s) will also be connected with a donor advocate. Privacy will be protected in all cases.

  • The ideal would be to find someone with type O+ blood like Kevin, but there are workarounds. Almost anyone has the potential to be a donor for Kevin. Their insurance will cover the cost.

  • The liver is an amazing organ and grows back in both the donor (so they don’t lose their liver) and in the recipient (who gains a new and improved liver).
