A message from our Chairman of the Board and our President and CEO
Now we move forward.
The Dallas Jewish community has been blessed with rich history, traditions, diversity, and in recent years, incredible growth. Jewish Dallas is one of the fastest growing communities in the United States, and the Jewish Federation is uniquely positioned to meet the demands of the burgeoning Jewish community with vision, strategic and proactive investments into our security, education, senior care, youth, and local and global Jewry.
In this year’s report, we want to share with you some of the highlights of our work. Stories of impact, which define who we are, introduce us to those who have not yet had a chance to engage and rekindle the power of our community with those who have been a part of our movement for decades.

Our mission is simple - To help ensure the continuity of a strong and vibrant Jewish community in Dallas, Israel and throughout the world.
How do we accomplish it in the age of record high levels of Antisemitism, political divides, an unthinkable war in Europe, and lingering impacts of Covid that directly affect the Jewish community? We do so by raising the funds necessary to meet the needs of the community. We work with the Federal and State governments to secure over $1.3M in funding for local agencies from FEMA, so we can do “Jewish” safely in places of worship, daycares, preschools, our community centers, and agencies. We work with the Department of Education to grant over $3M in Federal COVID Relief Funding helping Jewish schools stay open.
We connect our home in Dallas, to our Homeland in Israel. This year we successfully relaunched Dallas Teen Tour – a signature initiative, which provides an immersive three-week-long engagement for our teens to experience Israel. We launched an adult mission to Israel, which will introduce firsttimers to the country, and will reconnect our community to the Jewish homeland.
We invest in our professionals hiring the best and the brightest, so that we, as the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, are best positioned to deliver on every word of our mission, fund every qualified request, and grow the pool of more than 85 Jewish agencies, which work we so proudly celebrate, and invest in. We invite you to read through this report and join us in our mission.
Now we move forward. B’Yachad. Together.

For the last 111 years, Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas has been changing lives in Dallas, Israel and beyond. As one of the fastest growing Jewish communities in America, we impact more than 85 organizations world-wide.
Powered by your generosity, Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas strategically invests millions of dollars into our Jewish community in the form of programming, services, and fiscal support of organizations creating life-long impact for the generations to come. With our shared commitment, Jewish organizations provide shelter, medical needs, employment assistance, childcare, security, Jewish identity, deliver essential agency services and much more. Together, we make a difference!

How we respond to crisis?
When a need arises, Federation is poised and ready to support the Jewish community locally, in Israel, and beyond. As a central agency for Jewish Dallas, we are best equipped and have the infrastructure, skill, and know-how to respond and mobilize our community.
From a global pandemic to a war in Ukraine; from a tornado that ripped through a quad-state area to the Colleyville, TX, hostage situation in our own backyard, Federation was there to help.
The same way Federation provided meals locally during the Winter Storms of February 2021, we partnered with Kosher Palate and the Texas Jewish Community Relief in September of 2021 to provide Kosher meals for Rosh Hashanah, along with critical supplies and generators to our Jewish brothers and sisters in New Orleans after Hurricane Ida.
We also raised and sent funds to the Jewish Federation of Louisville and to Chabad of Kentucky for tornado relief when the storms ripped through Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and Arkansas.

Joint Emergency Grant Committee
The Joint Emergency Grant Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas and the Dallas Jewish Community Foundation collectively distributed $618,000 to 22 local agencies and 68 individuals impacted negatively by COVID-19 and the Winter storms, including $150,000 in funds recently distributed to organizations still facing residual effects as recently as September 2022.
Ukraine Crisis Appeal
Federation raised $573,625 for the Ukraine Crisis Appeal, a portion of which went to the United Hatzalah to charter a plane full of humanitarian supplies to be distributed to Jews inside Ukraine and returning to Israel full of refugees making Aliyah. Another portion of the dollars raised were retained to support local refugee needs, while the remainder joined the umbrella campaign of the Jewish Federation of North America leveraging our national and international partnerships to maximize the impact of each donation.
Hurricane
Ida Relief
Hurricane Ida was a deadly and extremely destructive Category 4 Atlantic hurricane in 2021 that became the second-most damaging and intense hurricane to make landfall in Louisiana on record, behind Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas coordinated with Kosher Palate and Texas Jewish Community Relief to provide 2000 Kosher meals for Rosh Hashana for our brothers and sisters in New Orleans. We also partnered with Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas and the Israeli Consulate in Houston to transport those meals, along with generators and other critical supplies to assist in the overall relief efforts.
Kentucky Tornado Relief
Federation raised and sent funds to the Jewish Federation of Louisville and Chabad of Kentucky. In December 2021, a violent, long-tracked tornado moved across Western Kentucky, producing severe to catastrophic damage in numerous towns. It was the deadliest and longest-tracked tornado in an outbreak that produced numerous strong tornadoes in several states. The tornado traveled through northeast Arkansas, Missouri and northwest Tennessee into Kentucky.
Jewish Life
Federation connects the Dallas community to Jewish life and learning. Some of the areas of our focus are:
Engaging young families:
• One Happy Camper initiative, in partnership with Foundation for Jewish Camp launched this year helps families experience Jewish sleepaway camps for the first time.
• Our transportation assistance made Jewish Day camps accessible to more families in DFW.
• Through the generosity of the Federation and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and a generous gift from the Mankoff Family Foundation, every Jewish child in Dallas has a monthly gift of a free Jewish book through PJ Library and PJ Our Way.

“PJ Library has meant so much to me and my family. I grew up in an interfaith family and have not been connected to Jewish community. When we found the PJ Library advertisement on the Yehuda matzah box, I could not have imagined what it would mean for me and my family.”
— PJ Library Parent

And we are proud to share:
• Dallas Israel Teen Tour (DITT): After 16 years we have successfully relaunched a three-week immersive experience in Israel for teens from the Dallas area.

“I just wanted to thank the whole Dallas Israel Teen Tour team and the Jewish Federation for making this trip so special for my son. It was a joy to hear about his adventures, and to hear him say that he learned so much about himself.”

Federation’s Center for Jewish Education assists Jewish educational institutions in grant-writing, professional development, and ongoing assessment.
• Last year 700+ teachers in the Jewish education system received support from Federation’s department of education.
• CJE provided consultations to all eligible Jewish day schools in their individual applications to the Emergency Assistance to Non-Public Schools (EANS) grant program, resulting in over $3 million in Federal COVID Relief Funding being designated for our community, helping schools stay open and close the COVID learning gap.

Community Security
Since its inception, Federation’s CSI has conducted full Security Site Assessments and consultation services to area Jewish non-profits, ensuring the Dallas Jewish community is prepared, in a proactive manner, to handle security issues, and remain security focused.
In addition, CSI was instrumental in encouraging area Jewish nonprofits to apply for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The Federation additionally offered funding incentives to partner agencies to hire professional grant writers. With our guidance, area Jewish agencies will be receiving over $1.2 million in Federal Security Funding to harden their facilities and help keep our community safe. We help protect our children, elderly, congregants, visitors, and staff.

Security & Community Engagement Allocations

Community Relations
The Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), stewards critical relationships with elected officials, and the broader interfaith community.
JCRC informs our local partner agencies of governmental resources and funding.
Amid the pandemic, JCRC assisted and supported receipt of more than $10,500,000 in PPP loans and identified $300,000 in emergency grants for Jewish Family Service of Dallas and the Aaron Family JCC
In January 2022, the JCRC worked in close partnership with lay and professional leadership to facilitate a coordinated response to the antisemitic hostage attack in Colleyville. The JCRC supported Ft. Worth Federation colleagues while communicating with elected officials and faith leaders at the local, state, and national levels.
JCRC’s signature Interfaith Seder invites hundreds of non-Jewish community members and leaders from diverse faiths and backgrounds to share in the Jewish Passover experience. Attendees have included elected officials, clergy of many faiths, students, and Jewish and non-Jewish community members from the greater Dallas area.

How do we engage with Israel?
Federation strives to build an enduring commitment between Israel and diaspora. The goal is to build strong relationships between the Dallas Jewish community and the land, spirit, and people of Israel. Leading by example, Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas plays a critical role in hosting Missions in Israel and around the world. The Pacesetter Mission to the UAE and Israel in November 2022, was a 5-star experience for our Pacesetter Society. It combined the top tourism sites and experiences that highlight the culture and opulence of the UAE along with experiences to learn about the history, and Jewish life in the Gulf. The time in Israel included meetings with high level military VIPs and CEOs, experiencing Israeli culture through cuisine and the arts, and exploring the many facets of Israeli society and new tourism experiences. Federation also provides VIP travel services for donors in Jewish communities around the world including itineraries, tours and transportation to and from our partner region of the Western Galilee in Israel.

Dallas Israel Teen Tour — In 2022, based on popular demand, the Dallas Israel Teen Tour was brought back for the next generation of the Dallas Jewish Community to enjoy. High school students entering their junior or senior year experience, explore and discover Israel with friends while making meaningful memories they will never forget.
ISRAEL at 75 — Scheduled for November 7-13, 2023, this community-wide effort will provide an opportunity for a fully immersive, customized travel to Israel in honor of its 75th anniversary. Read more details at jewishdallas.org/israelmission
March of the Living, MASA, Birthright, Schultz Fellows — These are just several initiatives Dallas Federation supports and invests in to ensure that as many local community members experience Israel for themselves.
Partnership 2Gether Program impacts the day-to-day lives of Israeli citizens in the Western Galilee. Our direct investment in Israel’s Northern foremost region, funds a special vocational training course at the Kishorit Bakery, located on Kibbutz Kishorit, a home for life for adults with special needs.

Thanks to the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, Dallas-Western Galilee partnership, the Baking Basics’ Vocational Training Course began on July 2021. This program is one of seven programs Dallas-Western Galilee partnership supported in the region during 2021-2022. Nine neurodiverse members (special needs) working in the bakery participated in the course. The members received one-on-one and group training to improve their abilities, bolster their self-esteem and be part of a productive and cohesive team producing incredibly delicious baked goods.
