Croix et Arc
T
his look is a bow focused style, which featured on the Chanel 2021/22 Metiers d’art show. This show had a focus on oversized bows on hairstyles. My unique idea was to keep the bow orientated look but infuse it with low ponytails and wrap detail, to create a sleek look. This gives my look a chicken and classy aesthetic, whilst maintaining simplicity. The style I have created is a backcombed bun into a ponytail, finished off with a ribbon bow. The beehive-like bun included a ‘stuffing’ to create maximum volume. To recreate ‘Croix et Arc’, begin with three sections; two from the ear-to-temple on either side and one of the middle part that is remaining. Firstly, the middle section is smoothed with a paddle brush and comb, into an elastic at the lower head. Material is then rolled and pinned underneath the ponytail, so I can cover the padding with hair. This creates effortless volume. The remaining hair is left out at the bottom of the padding. Secondly, one of the sections of the two is smoothed out using hairspray and a comb crossed over to the opposite side of the bun. Continued to do the same of the other final section, to give that cross-bun-like style.

Next, a handmade black bow from a strip of material is added to where the remaining hair was left at the bottom of the head, underneath the ‘cross bun’. It is tied tightly around the base ensuring it stays in place. This radiates that classical CHANEL popular style. Finally, the low ponytail is straightened and flicked out at the end from using straighteners, to give this modern hairstyle a mixed era representation. By doing so, the ‘Croix et Arc’ is individual.
