Red Leaf Creative LLC, New York Architecture Visualization Intern (remote) Designed and built out interior spaces, retail environments, and surrounding context in 3D software for Rosemary Square Development in Florida.

Developed post-production work such as retouching photography, photo compositing and film compositing in Photoshop for Google San Jase Campus and 50 Hudson Yards NY. Managed and scheduled in-the-field photography and model studio shoots.

To whom this may concern: Jessica Chan’s internship with our studio was undertaken between September to December 2020 wherein she was involved in the predesign, conceptual design and design development of a number of projects, including single-family, multi-unit residential and office design.

During this internship she exhibited a high level of maturity

and thoughtfulness that was much appreciated by myself and our team.

Our projects tend to have aggressive deadlines while our work incorporates a high level of complexity and detail. In this context Jessica revealed an impressive work ethic: patience, dedication and diligence. Furthermore, she assumed roles of responsibility when required, and in one instance together with another intern took the initiative to develop design strategies for an office project when the principals were too preoccupied. During her work term there were many deadlines and we always knew we could count on Jessica to complete her tasks.

His practical experience includes research/sourcing, preparation of conceptual designs and computer visualizations and zoning reviews.

Jessica’s contribution was considerable and valued. She exhibited a high level of enthusiasm for the craft and theory of architecture and she was a delight and distinct pleasure to work with.

Throughout this term, I have been investigating the impact of human presence on habitat loss at Toogood Pond in Markham, Ontario. Focusing on avian species, I’ve identified the elements of the micro-habitats that support specific birds species and their behaviors. This ranges from nesting heights, materials and proximity to human activity. By exploring the cohabitation relationships between human and bird, this pavilion is meant to encourage bird nesting amongst it.

Birds tend to fly into glass for 3 main reasons. They cannot see glass as a barrier, habitats are reflected onto the glass, and smaller windows look like holes to rest in.

These compartments are fun way for children and adults to learn about birds. Each compartment will provide information on a specific bird of the area. The compartments is composed of sitting area to listen to audio guides and bird sounds on one side, while the other is a shelf full of books and pamphlets on birds. There is also a set of binoculars for the participants to bird watch in the shade.

To prevent bird collisions, I have designed a bird friendly building which will deter bird from flying into the glass. A set of strings act as a screen to reduce the transparency of building so the glass becomes more visible to the birds. The strings are also strategically hung on a hidden L-channel which allows for a seamless screen on the inside of the building.

The Oakwood - Vaughan community has been increasingly losing foothold in its own community with the uprising of high rise condominiums and seemingly never ending construction. Many people lost their jobs and homes, they could not rely on others for constant support through the tough times.

In hopes of responding to the existing issues we propose a community support system built up on mixed residential buildings to create a stronger community that can rely on each other with less means of requiring external support. We have designed a web of connected resources and housing.

The proposal for this site is a mid-rise building located on Eglinton Avenue. The intended occupants are primarily families looking for housing close to the nearby schools and libraries adjacent to the proposed buildings. Amenities including a daycare, co-working spaces, open study rooms, learning spaces, and a fitness room are located on the ground floor with storefronts available to both the residents and the community. In addition, gardens are placed on the roofs and terraces for the residents to use. There will also be a shared park with another proposed site.

project: 1b studio final - library & children play place supervisor: maya przybylski & rick andrighetti date: april 2021 location: toronto, ontario, canada software: rhino, vray, illustrator, photoshop Located at the intersection of Dundas and Sterling in Downtown Toronto, the Acclivity is a community library combined with a children’s play space. To best suit, the steep hill of the site, the design of the library is an extended ramp acting as a continuous floor connecting the top of the hill to the bottom.

Along the ramp are clusters of pods with different interactive play or reading stations targeted for specific children groups.

All pods are connected to a central play structure, where each access point correlates with the children’s development of risk and adventure. The Acclivity is a place for the community to gather and enjoy the dynamic connection of the city with its people.

The building is embedded into the slope and connects the top of the slope to the bottom with the entire floor as a ramp.

Through the circulation, individuals on the outside are drawn into the building from the top and bottom.

The program of the building is designed in a way that all children can access the main play structure in the middle at different heights depending on their risk development skills. While the caregiver is stationed at the appropriate proximity according to the child’s age.

project: environmental design - research station date: april 2019 supervisor: terri boake collaborators: lauren chalmers location: tienanmen mountain, hunan, china software: rhino, vray, illustrator, photoshop The Tienanmen mountains are located in northern Hunan and are home to a hothumid climate influenced by the monsoon season. The Hunan House design takes into consideration the need for natural ventilation and utilizes the excess amount of rainwater within the mountains. This offgrid research station is intended to allow botanists to focus on the study of the bonsai tree, which are plentiful in the Bonsai Garden found at the summit of Tienanmen Mountain. Designed to encourage natural ventilation and cooling, Hunan House features many passive strategies such as shading, evaporative cooling and a buffer hallway. These strategies, along with the solar water heating system, help to make this off-grid station self-sustainable.

Due to the slant of the three roof sections, rainwater will be filtered into the pond in the center. Then larger contaminants such as leaves and dirt will be filtered out through the debris filter found at the bottom of the pond. After traveling through the debris filter the storm-water enters the storm-water storage tank. As the water tank overflows the pond above it will fill. When the storm-water leaves the tank it will travel through a purifying system where contaminants are released and a softener is added to the water to remove minerals. The water then proceeds to the

holding tank for purified water until it is needed either the shower or the sink. When the water is needed a solar-powered pump pushes the water to its source. If the water needs to be hot it passes through the solar collector which collects and concentrates the sun’s radiation and uses it to warm the water. Cool water is also pumped from the tank to the necessary water sources. The system also houses a composting toilet which requires no water and decomposes waste using aerobic bacteria into a fertilizer the occupants can use.

Located in the northeastern region of Vaujours Paris, Palette is a community space for artists that aims to create this palpable haven for today’s creative minds that is more than just a larger co-working office space, but a place that encourages innovation and creates a strong sense of community for all who use it that cannot be found solely on the internet. The radial form of the building itself is inspired from the palettes that artists used to paint, where each individual color has its own place. The building’s programmatic layout does the same thing. Varying forms of art all have their own respective studio and working

spaces throughout the building, but they all converge and look upon the reflection pool that is framed by the building itself. For artists looking to find new collaborators, or simply a peaceful place of contemplation as they search for their next inspiration, they can stand at the center of all these different working spaces where the synergy of varying creative energies converge.

Artists can come to Palette and use its multitude of facilities including a metal and wood workshop, digital screening/ theatre, multiple gallery spaces, cafe, design studio, private bookable studios, digital lab, library and an art residency.

Diffuse is a biomimetic modularly assembled pavilion which proposes a passive air-purifying structure deployable in any given setting: an urban environment, tourist destination, or indoors. Its purpose is to raise awareness on the universal problem of air quality while serving as an attractor for neighbours and visitors. In this iteration, the lightweight structure nestles in a garden, reflecting the surrounding flora’s natural purification process. Each module in the pavilion offers a space to reflect, to sit, to observe, and to relax.

Front & York is a brand new condominium development that pays homage to the industrial and historic character of Dumbo, Brooklyn. The ground floor of the building offers a range of commercial spaces such as restaurants, boutiques and art galleries.

My role in this project was to build out and render all the interior retail spaces with appropriate lighting and furniture making the store fronts visually engaging. I also laid out the room so that elements were more predominately featured in the camera view.

Rosemary Square is an premium office building located at the heart of Downtown West Palm in South Florida. The space offers state-of-the-art features and intends to put the wellbeing of the building occupants first.

Joining the project at the later stages of the process, my main role was finding and placing the correct entourage that match the lighting, blending the people into the scene, and adjusting furniture and material.

69 Bridle Path is a private residential project located in downtown Toronto.

It is a 3 story home with 8 bedrooms, 11 bathroom, spa & sport facilities, a home theatre and private dance studio.

For this project, I modeled out the entire building and surrounding landscape topography in SketchUp. I started adding the preliminary furnishing and material selection onto the model. I also created visualizations for presentations and updated the floor plans.

4466 Sheppard is a newly renovated office space located in Scarborough, Toronto.

The space includes a work stations, private offices, lounges and break rooms.

For this project, I modeled out the interior spaces, helped select materials and furniture, rendered presentations views, and developed the mill-work drawings for tender.
