Boston Cultural & Research Center

3rd Year | Fall 2022 Studio

In the culturally diverse neighborhood of Dorchester, the site sits on Dorchester Ave. and Humboldt Pl. An industrial sector and the downtown Boston skyline are to the north while residential neighborhoods to the east and south. The predominant problem was the railroad tracks that are to the west adjacent to the site. Noise was the driving factor towards developing a concept. By introducing trees to act as a buffer, it also breaks up the rigidity of the urban context. By envisioning wha a pre-colonial area could be, the scheme for resultant building was devised. The oranic nature of the facade serves to not only fikter both light and sound, it also blends in with the trees. Like cut tree trunks, each slice tells a story. The theater, exhibition spaces and obsevation deck occupy the northern half while the research labs, library, cafe, bookstore/giftshop and classroomsare on the southern half. Both halves are connected by an atrium,

Lubbock Office

3rd Year | Fall 2022 BIT

This project is a detialed study of different components that go into an office space. From the foundation to the parapit, this was an exploration into the beginnings of the capabilies of Revit. It all comes together in a construction document set.

Downtown MixedUse Building

2nd Year | Fall 2021 Studio

Starting off with two precedants, the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas and the Vault House in Oxnard, California, it soon became a hyrid model derived from tectonic, formal, sequential and spatial order studoes. By orientating the main enterance towards the northwest corner of the site, the building can engage people coming from the street more accessibly. In addition to solving the problem of incorporating distinctive features from the two precedants, the decision to incoporate an ADA accesible ramp was devised to make the ground floor and second floor a more continous journey. The organization of the lobby, exhibition spaces and offices were based off a structural column that formed a grid identity. The patio opens up towards north to see the Friday Art Trail while the courtyard is the heart of building, allowing for the additional light and air to enter the building.

Altered Body Pavilion

1st Year | Sping 2021

Studio

The project started from the altered body. This came about from restrictions placed onto the body to introduce new movement when interacting with a stiar. By attaching restriction bands from the waist to the ankles, knee braces, arms held parallel to the ground and strings that connect the wrist to the ankles, this new movement was mapped through a series of chromophotos. Eventually, alignment, nodes and shapes from the side view allowed for the development of stairs that mimiced the altered body. It was then scaled up to a pavilion where the stairs occupy a scheme that seemlessly incoporates the ideas expressed from the altered body.
