LIGHT LIGHT IT UP
"It was a great day, I had been advocating for this day for awhile. The turn out was way bigger than I had expected. We got thousands of views on social media, it was the best thing I was ever able to be apart of in my high school career." Noah Hirsch (12)
People ask me who my hero is. At work I’ll get, Noah, why are you the way you are ? What inspires you and your attitude. Well, my hero lived with me for 17 years. I didn’t deserve my hero, but God had a great design in his plan that I now can understand.
My hero showed me what unconditional love meant. She was born with half a heart and given a less than 5% shot to make it pass 2. She had a stroke and countless open heart surgeries within her first year of life. Her parents had to move to Houston so she could be at sea level. The move meant that there would be no extended family nearby. She had a g-button in her belly so she could eat as a child. She was then told she wouldn’t make it past 5 years old. She wasn’t supposed to
go to school, nor would she be able to talk well and graduating high school wasn’t in the realm of imagination.
Then I came along, and growing up was a little different for me than most kids. I had that protective gene, and when your sister has HLHS and Turner's syndrome you become her protector, or “The Man”, as she would call me. She was special though. We would call her our “social butterfly”. She had a natural ability to smile and illuminate the room around her. People would think that she wasn’t that smart, yet her emotional IQ was in the 98th percentile.
She had one purpose on this earth, and I believe it’s so she could touch people, and give them a glimpse of God on earth. People would always ask me
what kept her alive all these years, and I’d tell them it was her love and fight for life. Anything and everything that a doctor said she wouldn’t do, she did. She did it. She walked across the stage and was handed her diploma. In all of her difficulties that she faced, she loved people like no other. If anyone had a reason to quit. A reason to be mean. A reason to not smile. It was her. However, she lit up every room she was in. It’s taken me the past 6 months to realize how she touched me. All this time to understand who my biggest hero is. My wonderful sister Alexis. On Thursday, June 16th 2022 you went to meet your maker. He’s made all things new for you, but you’re making me new every day. Alexis Hirsch, I love you. You are my hero.

COLOPHON
The 87th edition of The Cougar Yearbook was printed by Balfour Publishing in Dallas, Texas. The theme of the yearbook was "Our Legacy" to encompass our connection and impact on this town and school. We recognized the mark that previous generations have left and the marks we leave as "Our Legacy." Our Balfour sales representative was Milani Arguelles. Our plant representative was Tracy Noren. Senior portraits were taken by Cady Photography.
The book is a 9x12 format and is printed on 100-pound gloss paper. The 264-page book was designed using Adobe InDesign. The primary font family we used was Clerface and Acumin Variable Concept, with a variety of other fonts used based on design. There were 950 copies of the book ordered with nearly al of them pre-sold. The cost began at $70, then rose to $85 in December and was $100 when delivered in May.
EDITOR NOTE
As I sit here 1 day before I turn in the final pages of this year’s yearbook, I’m trying to find a way to encompass my gratitude and appreciation for what the past 4 years in this program have taught me. It has brought me some of the best people in my life, great opportunities, and my passion.
While I’m so incredibly proud of this book that has been created, what I’m truly proud of is the people who have spent so many hours of their time working on this book.
Adalyn, I’m so thankful for you; your skill, your wit, your friendship, your hard work inspires me. I know that your passion in all that you do shines true in this yearbook. I’m incredibly thankful for the time we’ve gotten to spend together through yearbook, and I’m so excited for the future in Colorado that awaits you.
Ava, I’m so glad I got to grow closer to you this year. You have brought so much laughter and love into my life, and this yearbook would not have been made possible without your creativity, imagination, and dedication. I have so much faith that next year you are going to lead this program to so much.
Morgan, I appreciate everything you’ve done for this yearbook. Your hard working nature is evident, and you have always put yourself out there, willing to help in every way you can.
