District 15-6A Preview Tomball: 4th Place (3-3 District, 7-3 Overall)
W
Coming off an 11-4 season, State Semifinal appearance, Tomball has become the team to beat. Despite losing some players such as Army West Point QB Cale Hellums, Houston Baptist University WR Jayden Grey, University of Houston DE Cavan Tuley, and more, the Cougars do have some key players returning. At the running back position, senior Christian Womack will be the go-to guy this year as he racked up 1,369 Rushing yards with 21 touchdowns last season. Blocking for Womack and first-year quarterback Carter Noyes, will be right guard Abram Nicklas. On the defensive side, juniors Keegan Demmer and Ramon Pernas will be the force of the team.

Klein Cain: Undefeated (6-0) District Champions, 10-2 Overall Key players: Patrick Batiste (Sr.), Jaelen Smith (Sr.), Gibson Pyle (Jr.) Arguably the most stacked offensive team of last year, Klein Cain looks to continue their dominance despite graduating their key offensive players such as former four-star wide receiver and now freshman at the University of Houston Matthew Golden, quarterback Carson Roper, and runningback Ramir Mccray the Hurricanes do have returning talent that can take over the reins. For offense the go-to wide receiver is senior Jaelen Smith, on the offensive line four-star junior Gibson Pyle is the leader of the line. On the defensive side Senior cornerback, Patrick Batiste has the secondary covered when it comes to the air.
Klein: 5th Place (2-4 District, 4-6 Overall)

After just falling short of clinching the last playoff spot in a 35-14 loss against Tomball in week ten, Klein will be determined to change the narrative of their season. With returning players such as Junior quarterback Bankston Lemcke and Senior Army West Point commit running back Myles Arterberry the Bearkats have an opportunity to clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 2018.

Klein Oak: 3rd Place (4-2 District, 6-6 Overall) Klein Oak will be interesting to watch this year, historically they’ve been in the top half of the district as they’ve clinched a playoff spot the last nine years in a row but have recently lost their quarterback, Preston Hatter, to Westfield High School. Despite this loss they have nior Three Star Wide receiver and the University of Memphis commit, KaBlack returning. Kaleb accumulated just shy of 1000 total yards with

5. Waller: New to district, but in 1-5A: 5th Place (3-5 District, 4-5 Overall) With the growing community in Waller and the recent change in alignments, Waller has been moved from 1-5A to 15-6A. This past year the Bulldogs just fell short of the playoffs as they placed 5th in district play with a 3-5 record. With quarterback Caleb Godfrey graduating it will be interesting to see who steps up and takes over the offense. Junior running back Alex Barrs will also play a fundamental role for Waller on the ground as the state of their passing game is unsure.
e
Klein Forest: 6th Place (1-5 District, 5-5) Overall Just in the last three years, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jonathan Wilson has truly changed the Klein Forest Program around. This past year the Eagles were able to break .500 as well as win their first district game in over ten years. With a well-rounded coaching staff and a large group of heavily recruited athletes such as Three Star Arkansas Commit Brad Spence, Four Star Parker Jenkins, Four Star Jelani Watkins, Carter Jenkins, Jaylen Brag, and Trent Spence, this Eagle group can be the team to look out for this year.

Klein Collins: 2nd Place (5-1 District, 5-6 Overall) Coming in at second place in district, Klein Collins has continued to stay in the playoff contention every year as they begin their season with arguably one of the hardest non-district schedules as they opened up to Atascosita, North Shore, and Katy Tompkins. This tough schedule prepares the Tigers for what is to come in district. The Tigers also have a stack of offensive threats with Three Star Ethan Wyatt, Three Star Louisiana commit, Michael Wilson, and Chris Gant Jr all getting the ball from Junior Tucker Parks.
Tomball Memorial: 7th Place (0-6 District) (2-8 Overall) After winning a district championship just two seasons ago under Colton Marwell and Joeseph Manjack, this past year was well below the expectations for the Wildcats as they fell to the bottom of the district. Heading into this year the Wilcats look to return to the status quo as they continue to implement a dual quarterback system under Senior Reed Odell and Junior Lane Stockton as they accumulated almost 3,000 in the air combined. Their go-to targets have been Seniors Cory O’Bryant and Chase Lovick.

Get Connected:
With the new school year come tons of opportunities to become more involved and connected in the school. There are many clubs and extracurriculars that welcome everyone including incoming freshman and foreign exchange students. We have many clubs designed to suit peoples hobbies such as, book club, chess club, debate, ceramics, bowling, and gamers club. We also have clubs that help us become more whole as a school such as, best buddies, P.R.I.D.E, student council, and student media. If you are looking to expand your academic horizon french club, german club or academic UIL might be right for you! If none of these clubs interest you, though, anybody is more than welcome to start their own club! Not only does this look great on college applications, you will also have a club completely sculpted to your own vision. Talk to the principal’s secretary, Mary Rendon, to get an application. Clubs and extracurriculars are a great way to stay connected in the tomball community and can give colleges an idea of who you are. If you are at all interested in joining clubs don’t hesitate, just go for it!

Senior Letters to Freshmen Dear Class of 2026, My name is Turner Schiel. While I’m sure most of you have no idea who I am, you’ll get to know me this year as I am one of your Student Council Presidents. Recently, I have been reflecting on my high school experience. While I can’t say that I remember everything my teachers have taught me, I can confidently say that I have learned a lot of life lessons while being a student that will stick with me for life. A life lesson I learned in school is the importance of finding your niche. When I first started high school, I had a few friends that I had known since middle school. But I quickly learned that the organizations I was a part of were going to have me work with new people. While it took some time to connect with the new people I met, I soon became friends with most of the new people I was working so closely with. A lot of those people I was hesitant to talk to at first are now some of my closest friends, people I hope to stay friends with for a lifetime. While it is easier to not put yourself out there, my personal experience shows that it makes school life all the more interesting and engaging if you do. The most important thing I learned in high school is to appreciate your time. While it may sound like a cheesy cliche, I walked into my freshman year and blinked- now I'm going into senior year. I started freshman year feeling like high school was going to be a long four years, but overall my high school experience passed quicker than I could’ve ever imagined. I enjoyed the passing time so much that it never felt like I was just “passing time”. It was my involvement in extracurricular activities that not only gave me new friends and completely new skill sets but also made high school some of the best years of my life. Don't let a fear of stepping out of your comfort zone prevent you from trying new things and meeting new people. Because at the end of the day, high school is about one thingmaking memories. Have a great year, Turner Schiel

12. Hey Freshmen!
He
Welcome to the big leagues! These next 4 years are meant to be the best of your life, but only you can make that happen. It's a scary transition coming to high school: It's a much bigger building filled with way more people than what we were used to in junior high. Don't let that scare you though, here at Tomball, bigger is better!

I remember being terrified my freshmen year. The hallways were filled with strangers, and I felt out of place. Then, soccer season started. Through this team, I have built relationships that will last a lifetime. My freshmen season, the seniors took me under wings and helped me get through the whole year. Now it's my turn to do that for the younglings both on and off the soccer field. Being part of extracurriculars is a way to have people who enjoy your company and who'll stick with you throughout the years! Get out of your comfort zone, take chances, and don't be scared of what may become! Even though I still hang out with people I've known since 1st grade, some of my closest friendships were all developed within the last 4 years.

On another note: OUR TEACHERS ARE THE BEST TEACHERS IN THE WORLD! They're here to help and will work with you if you're willing to do the same. I've made some great memories with some of my teachers. They'd ask me about my soccer games, give advice, and overall would be there for me when I needed them! It's always important to appreciate our teachers and always treat them with respect. Don't stress, and enjoy the ride. Take it from me: Time will fly. I know you'll do incredible things, and if at any point during the year you need anything, look for number 23 on the girls' varsity soccer team. I'll be here if you need me! Senior, Ximena Hammeken

13. Hello, my name is Adriana Speirs I’ve been a part of HOSA and the Health Science route since my freshmen year. If you’re looking at being in the medical field, I highly suggest taking this endorsement. The classes I took (and recommend) are Medical Terminology which gives you the basics of understanding terms and phrases used in the medical world. Principles of Health Science gives you a more in-depth understanding of the body how different parts of it function. Lastly, as a junior, I was in Clinicals. This class gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in different jobs in this field and allowed me to use the skins I’ve learned in real scenarios. If you’re interested in working in dental, optometry, or physical therapy, Clinicals is for you! However, if you’re uncomfortable in certain situations that involve patients, then I suggest you take Theory. Similar to Clinicals, they teach you skills and functions of the body, but you won’t go off campus to sites. After taking these classes, you can pick a more specific practicum. I chose Pharmacy, but there are other many others that you can choose: Nursing, Dentistry, Emergency Medicine, and Sports Medicine. No matter what you decide, it will give you more of an idea of what you would like to pursue in the future. If you want to further your involvement, you can join HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). This club gives students the opportunity to show off their skills in a competition. There are many benefits in being a part of HOSA, such as leadership development, technical skills, and becoming a well-rounded individual in the healthcare field. Plus, we do fun things like monthly meetings with snacks and different activities that give community service hours. Overall, HOSA is a great club to be involved with when considering being a healthcare worker. A piece of advice is to take organized notes and never be afraid to ask questions. The teachers are amazing, and I guarantee that you are not the only one with a question. I hope this insight helps you have a better understanding of the health science classes!
14.
Class of '26, I decided to move to Tomball High School in the middle of my sophomore year. It was so nerve-racking to start at a new school because I was afraid everybody would already have established their friend groups and found their activities. However, when I joined Tomball Stage and the Cougar Claw yearbook staff, the school didn't feel as daunting anymore. Being in yearbook helped me become familiar with the school itself, and I even found leadership positions I could participate in as I felt more confident. Contributing your ideas to a project that is distributed to the entire school is a very rewarding way to spend your time. I got some amazing opportunities by being on staff, like being able to take photos on the field at Baylor Stadium and seeing a plant where they print yearbooks from all around the state! Tomball Stage has also been one of the biggest impactors of my high school experience. I had no clue that I could love performing with a certain group of people as much as I do, and traveling with my friends for theater has probably been one of my favorite memories from high school. The time and effort that is put into theater is definitely worth the shows that you create and the friendships you make. Spending every day with the same people forms connections that I have truly never found in another extracurricular. Don't be afraid to try something new. In just a year and a half, I've tried a multitude of different things, finding activities that fit me well and that I have come to love. I've also learned a lot about what isn't for me. In the end, if you put in an effort, you'll discover something that you fall in love with too. Have an amazing year! Adalyn Campbell.

FRESHMAN
Do’s and Don’t’s DO: Get connected: Getting connected is an underrated way to elevate your first year at highschool. The beginning of the school year is a great time to find new extracurriculars. Getting involved in clubs, sports, and everything that THS has to offer can bring about new friends and interests. Be prepared: One of the key aspects to being stress free and successful is keeping yourself in order and prepared. A first step to ready yourself for class is to get the necessary school supplies, in which this list will be given to you on the first day of school by your teachers themselves. Pro tip: you might want to bring money for vending machines and cafeteria snacks, as well as a phone charger and headphones.
Ask for help:
Getting through your freshman year will be a lot easier if you don't shy from asking for help. Don’t be afraid to ask people for help finding your classrooms, and especially don’t be afraid to ask your teachers any questions. We were all confused freshman at one point, and it’s always better to ask for help sooner than later.
By: Sydney Thomas-Arnold
DON’T: Disrespect the school: As you now attend THS, it is important to be mindful of our staff, building, and your peers. Our janitorial staff should not have to worry about cleaning up vandalism or trash left at lunch. Please keep in mind that the entire staff at THS is here to make the school run smooth, and therefore are here to help you. Also, please remember to respect students in the halls by keeping to the right side, not being too loud, and not gathering in large groups during transitions. Procrastinate: Most highschoolers are going to procrastinate from time to time, which is understandable. However, be sure to keep yourself in check. Highschool classes are fast, and all of those assignments will catch up to you sooner than you think! Procrastinating just makes things more stressful for you, so get ahead of things when you can. Don’t stress: As difficult as that may sound, highschool is not as overwhelming as you think. Between classes, friends, and the new environment, it can be easy to get swept away with the anxiety of it all. However, in keeping calm and not overthinking too much, you can and will find opportunities and excitement.

17. Peer pressure shapes society, without a doubt, but does that make it a good thing? Definitely not. It makes students make changes within themselves without even realizing. Every student has their own unique mind, yet they still won’t wear what they truly want to so that they could fit in at school. There’s the obvious forms of pressure for students to do like drugs, drink, and vandalism but people forget that there’s more subtle ways. For example, trending styles or picking classes that everyone else is taking. A student is walking through school on the first day, wearing their new favorite shoes, then they start to see that everyone else is wearing the same “trendy” shoes. The student might start to feel insecure about how they dress or how their style is, therefore, they start to change their own unique style to be included with their classmates. There is nothing wrong with a student wanting to fit in but there is something wrong with them feeling like they have to fit in. Every student at the end of the year starts to pick their classes for the upcoming school year. The majority of them will ask their friends what classes they’re taking so that the next year they might possibly have those classes together. The biggest things that students pick together are their extracurriculars, one student may not be interested in these specific classes but they’ll still choose them because their friends are in them. People may argue that forcing someone into doing something that might be good for them would make pressuring them okay. But it’s not. No matter what the situation is, the choice should be there, no one should ever feel guilt tripped or coerced into doing something they truly do not want to do, let them decide for themselves. Being in a school environment automatically means that in some way they will eventually experience peer pressure, but that doesn’t mean someone should be harassing someone to change just because they didn’t like the way they dressed or the classes they picked. Students can choose to be themselves, and no one should try to change that.

Notes about Student Media 1 - We have a great school newspaper, both online @ THSCougarClaw. com and in print. We typically print four editions a year. Want to join? Stop in Room 1201 and get information. We need writers, artists (anything from editorial cartoons to comic strips), page designers, even letters to the editor. Make your voice heard!! 2 - The yearbook program is very active, you’ll see our photographers at events all year. Once the books arrive in May, we throw a big party and invite everyone who bought a book to join us! But it all starts with buying your book. Go online to order your copy at Balfour.com. Prices go up at the end of the first semester and when books come in, so order early and save yourself some dough. Besides, we sell out fast and you don’t want to miss out! 3 - Don’t forget our amazing broadcast team! KTHS-TV airs twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. Many teachers show them but sometimes they can’t or they forget, so you can always watch them on our Student Media app. 4 - We have our own app! Search for Tomball High in your app store and download our free app. You’ll get the school calendar, clubs calendar, all the latest headlines from the newspaper and all of our KTHS-TV videos! We also send out alerts when big news happens, such as school closures due to weather. Have a suggestion on something you want to see covered, or want to get involved? Just stop in Room 1201 anytime. Thanks! Your student media team

Hi everyone! My name is Lauryn Olivarez, an d I’m this year’s Editor-in-Chief. I have so many amazing ideas fo r our 2022-2023 pu and I hope you’ll stick blication, around to see what we have planned! Now, lik of my classmates did e a few in the previous pages, I would like to share a words of advice to our few Freshmen: While it’s crucial that you stay on top of your grades, it’s okay to m mistakes (they’re lear ake ning experiences). Ther e are always ways to im whether that be extra pr ov e, credit, tutoring, or sim ply putting in a little effort for the next test m or e . Don’t strive for perfec tion, as it’s unhealthy destructive to your men and tal health. I know everyone says this, but it’s entirely true: High school will by in the blink of an ey fly e, so make the most of it. It feels like it was yesterday that I was just in your shoes thinking to myself, “Wow, four years!” Before you know more it, your senior year will be upon you, and gradua rapidly approaching. tion If there’s anything th at you think would be a good story to cover, an email to editor@thsc send ougarclaw.com or stop by room 1201 by durin period to have a chat w g 5th ith me. - Sincerely, Lauryn
