ALLIED HEALTH SERVICE
THE DESIGN PROPOSAL LOOKS TO IMPLEMENT THREE MAIN FOCUSES WHICH ORBIT AROUND THE IDEA OF HEALING DESIGN — [1] THE FOREGROUNDING AND INTEGRATION OF MENTAL HEALTH THROUGH THE VARIETY OF ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES OFFERED, [2] THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF LANDSCAPE AND ITS CONNECTION TO THE HUMAN AND [3] THE COMMUNAL AND PUBLIC REALM, OFFING UP SPACES AND INVITING PEOPLE INTO THE SITE, THE BUILDING AND THE WAITING AREAS... THE HEALING IS NOT JUST DONE IN THE CONSULTATION SUITE, IT IS THROUGH COMMUNITY, THROUGH CONNECTIONS, THROUGH SPORT AND THROUGH NATURE.

RYAN / 19yo MALE / CARPENTER Tim left school at 17 to take up a trade apprenticeship as a carpenter. He recently injured his back at work which required surgery. The rehab process will take up to six months through which he cannot work. He also undertakes counciling with a mental health practicioner since his accident. [1] Living opposite the site, he uses the local facilities, he cannot afford the travel cost any further. [2] He plays basketball with other people from the housing estate. [3] Attends a mental health seminar in the theatre space. [4] After checking in for his consultation at the reception he grabs a coffee from the cafe and waits in the outdoor green space. [5+6] After his consultation he leaves via the back exit.
TANYA / 32yo FEMALE / MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL Tanya bikes to the health center everyday from her home in Parkville. She is a addictions therapist taking sessions throughout the day with groups and individuals. STRESSES of the job are an important factor to consider. The situations and circumstances that Tanya encounters as part of her day-today can be both confronting and disturbing for her personally. The REFLECTIVE AND RELIEVING LANDSCAPING POCKETS [3] of the building and the extensive landscaping [5] will cater for her needs to recalibrate and relax through the day. She parks her bike [1] in the bike store and has her own consultation room [2] and uses the group spaces and threatre upstairs [4].
JENNY [AND CHRIS] / 38yo MOTHER AND 9yo SON Jenny brings her son Chris to the health centre for weekly sessions with occupational therapist after an accident overseas left Chris with an injury. They take the No. 19 tram from their home in Brunswick [1]. After checking in at the recption Chris wants to play in the community playground, where they wait to recieve a haptic call for their appointment [2]. Chris uses the gym during his hour long session [3] during which Jenny makes her way back to the cafe to wait for Chris to be done [4]. 5
