The Assignment You have been hired to design a retirement home based on the floor plan provided. The home is located in a U.S. destination of your choice. You must develop a hypothetical client by completing the client questionnaire and research the community where the home will be located. In addition to the design goals you will establish for your client, you must include the following: • One bespoke design solution, something unique and specific to their lifestyle • COVID has affected them in that they do expect to spend more time at home than they did in the past and they will need “Zoom space.” • Aging-in-place considerations for space planning, materials, and finishes, etc. Deliverables 1. One-page Program Narrative to include: a. Identification of your client (brief background information). Include names. b. Location of the home including research of the area, and contextual surroundings c. Client lifestyle (informs spatial planning and room arrangement). d. Client preferences. General statements regarding preferences for furnishings, styles, colors, textures, patterns, materials and finishes, window, wall, and floor treatments. e. Client needs such as how the space should feel, re-using existing furniture, entertaining guests, physical challenges, etc. f. Budget – low, medium, or high-end project 2. A Concept Statement – What is the overarching idea driving the design? Describe how the space will look and feel (mood) and how the design elements will work together. 3. Client Presentation – must be on 20” x 30” boards a. One (1) space planning diagram
b. Two (2) hand sketches showing concept or design development c. ¼” scale Floor Plans including furnishings. Black and white (not color-rendered) d. One (1) elevation in ½” scale color rendered e. One (1) perspective color-rendered f.
