#2262 Brunswick Triple Arch Bar From Gene Autry Museum

This triple arch Brunswick bar has quite a provenance. A plaque affixed to the front bar reads, “This historic bar was used by a popular saloon in Dodge City, Kansas from 1880 until about 1960 when the building was demolished during a redevelopment project. This bar played host to the cowboys, gamblers, and gunfighters of the Great American West.” The next owner was the famous singing cowboy and actor, Gene Autry. It stayed in his collection until it was sold at auction on Nov 19, 1989. A copy of the auction catalog with the bar pictured is included. The bar’s next stop for 20+ years was at the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. When the Imperial Palace changed hands and remodeled in 2012 the bar made its way to a California automobile collector who set up his own saloon with his auto collection. The bar is once again being offered at auction and ready to write its next chapter. The flame grain mahogany top features acanthus leaf topped columns, carved lions heads on the arches, and beveled mirrors. The front bar has a brass foot rail. In overall very nice condition. The back bar measures 10’-9.5” tall, 19’-11” long, 24” deep. Front bar measures 25’-2” long, 44” tall, 29” deep.

#1350 1898 Oak Brunswick Los Angeles Front & Back Bar

Recently discovered by pickers, somewhere in rural Indiana, this magnificent piece has been completely and correctly restored to its former glory by some of the finest craftsmen in the Midwest. The incredible back bar is quarter sawn oak and measures 18’ long, 10’ 10” tall (130” tall) and 22 1/2” deep at the counter. The two original Brunswick seminude, life-sized female figures are hand-carved Birch. These figures are unique to the Brunswick Los Angeles model and are flanked by two massive oak 46” tall columns. The base has been completely restored in the original rich golden-brown finish and antique hardware. The top cornice and arch still have their original finish, which has been carefully cleaned and recoated. Three brass, single light fixtures with original husks light the three mirrors from above. The front bar is made completely of quarter sawn oak with original one-piece solid mahogany top and is nicely appointed with four original pilasters with original capitols. The front bar is constructed of 3/4” solid quarter sawn oak, not veneered and has never been cut to accommodate a tap unit. The capitols and dentils on the front bar match those found on the back bar. The breast board of the front bar has original embossed molding, which is unique to Brunswick bars, finished off with a substantial 2” solid brass foot rail with four original “swing leg” brackets. The front bar measures 16’ long, 44” tall, and 26” deep. This remarkable ensemble is one of the finest and most soughtafter examples from the golden era of the pre-prohibition American saloon. These lavish bar ensembles are unique to America and appeared briefly between 1880 and 1920, never to be seen again. This surviving example has been carefully and lovingly restored and is ready to enjoy. We have all seen the great historic photographs of these beautiful old saloons and wondered what it must have been like back in the day. When you walk up to this bar, it is like stepping back into time. No need to imagine, you are there. Just belly up to the bar, set your foot upon the rail, slide your arm across the top, stand and gaze upon the massive columns and cornice with its two beautiful maidens who welcome thirsty patrons. You now have stepped into the lost world of the once glorious pre-prohibition era saloon. Do not pass this up...it is truly a museum quality restoration. Entire ensemble comes apart and fits nicely in a 26’ trailer for transport.

# 2076 1893 Life Size Gypsy Fortune Teller Statue

This statue was originally exhibited and purchased at the Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893 which celebrated the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ voyage. It was eventually owned by William Anastos who used it as part of the décor at the Cairo Supper Club located at 4015 N. Sheridan Rd. in Chicago. The Cairo which opened in 1949, was a popular Chicago night spot that featured top name live entertainment. On May 11, 1964 the club was firebombed as part of the Chicago mob’s control of the Chicago restaurant & bar industry. There was extensive damage to the club and it never reopened. The statue suffered damage to the table legs but was salvaged from the debris. The legs were repaired and Anastos eventually sold the statue to a suburban antique dealer who has had it in his possession for over 50 years. The proper title of the statue is La Diseuse De Bonaventure – The Fortune Teller of Bonaventure. It is life size and has a polychrome finish. In overall very good condition with the exception of the repaired legs. A unique piece of Chicago history. Measures 58”T x 22”W x 25”D.

# 2280 This carousel has been in the Wilson family since it was built in 1932 by Spillman Engineering of North Tawanda, New York. Wilson Famous Shows of Astoria, Illinois traveled the carnival circuit for over 50 years. Ray Wilson, whose father started the business in 1911, ran the traveling carnival until shortly before his passing in 1984. Ray spent the last winter of his life working on the carousel getting it ready for the next season. It was not to be. For the next 37 years, the carousel lay stored in its enclosed travel trailer, waiting. The family has decided to sell it as one unit rather than breaking it up for the horse value hoping that someone will restore it. The carousel is a 2 abreast unit with 20 jumpers and a chariot. The all wood, carved horses are stripped and ready for restoration. The mechanism needs a total rebuild with several castings and the main bearing broken. It is almost unheard of that a carousel comes to market with its complete history let alone in the hands of the original owners. The family will provide the new owner with vintage photographs and the history of the carousel.
