For centuries, Jekyll Island has fascinated everyone who’s ever crossed its barrier shores. With ten miles of sun-drenched beaches, award-winning golf courses, and Georgia’s only rehabilitation center for endangered sea turtles, there’s something for every kind of explorer.
TIDES
Jekyll Island experiences two high tides and two low tides each day. The time it takes to go from the first high tide to the following high tide is 12 hours and 25 minutes. High tides at Jekyll Island range between 6-9 feet above low tide levels. Be sure to check the tide charts before heading to the beach: jekyllisland.com/tide
THINGS TO KNOW
• No motorized vehicles, fires, fireworks, glass containers, overnight camping, metal/ mineral detectors, horseback riding (unless by licensed vendor).
• No flashlights, unless turtle friendly
• Stay off of the dunes.
• Only take empty shells and dead sand dollars.
• Do not disturb turtles or nests .
• Fill in sandcastles and holes
• Remove all trash, tents, and belongings from the beach; belongings left overnight will be removed and discarded
• Use caution on sandbars. They become submerged at high tide.
• Pets must be on a leash at all times; maximum length for leashes is 16 feet
• No pets allowed on beach between South Dunes Beach Park and 2,000 feet northeast of St. Andrews Beach Park
• Remove and dispose of pet waste.

SOUTH DUNES BEACH PARK
With an elevated boardwalk crossing 20-foot sand dunes, this park features an observation deck and freshwater pond. Picnic tables and grills with open-air and screened-in picnic pavilions make this the perfect spot for a relaxing family event.
GLORY BEACH
Graceful sea oats and pristine sand dunes line Glory Beach on the south end of Jekyll Island. You’ll be amazed at how wide this beach is, and you’ll see why movie scouts chose to film portions of Glory here.

A short walk from Jekyll Point, the southernmost tip of the island, a popular spot for watching migratory birds and groups of dolphins. The picnic area features an ADA beach access, two-story wildlife viewing platform, and the Wanderer Memory Trail.

Jekyll Island is committed to beach accessibility for residents and guests with disabilities. Did you know sea turtles nest at night?
These creatures use natural light to orient themselves on the beach, but man-made light can confuse them. Reduce harmful impacts on sea turtle nesting by closing blinds & drapes and using turtle-safe flashlights, available for purchase at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. These flashlights illuminate true red (580 nm or longer wavelength) and allow you to safely enjoy the beach without disturbing sea turtles.

Home to a variety of wildlife, Horton Pond features a floating platform for turtles, alligators, and birds to rest. Safely appreciate this habitat from the wheelchair accessible observation deck or Tupelo Trail, a .7 mile trail surrounding the pond.

INDIAN MOUND: Constructed in 1975, Indian Mound is the shortest of Jekyll’s three 18-hole courses, but it still displays course designer Joe Lee’s signature fairway bunkers in precarious locations.
OLEANDER: This 18-hole course’s short grasses providing a challenge to golfers of all skill levels.
GREAT DUNES: Famed course designer Walter “Old Man” Travis constructed Great Dunes in 1926. Reflecting the island’s unique coastal terrain, the 9-hole features ocean breezes and alternates in difficulty and simplicity.
PINE LAKES: Known as the Island’s familyoriented course — despite being the longest— Pine Lakes was developed by designer Clyde Johnson to incorporate family-friendly tees, making it an even playing ground for both adults and younger players.

Bicycling has long been a favorite activity on Jekyll Island. With more than 22 miles of picturesque paths and trails, biking offers a scenic way to see all of the island’s hallmark points of interest.
