Leadership Development expert, Jeffery Whippo defines Motivation as simply internal and external factors that stimulate one’s desire and energy to be continually committed to a job, or a subject, or to make an effort to attain a specific goal. He believes that motivation can result from the interaction of both conscious and unconscious factors and that the intensity of desire or need, the incentive or reward value of the goal, and the expectations of the individual as well as their peers can all be factors in motivation. Additionally, he says that another way of defining motivation is literally just the desire to do things. He implies that measuring motivation can be done, however it can be very challenging.
