Constructing Environments – week 10 What we did: For the first section this week’s tute session the class was given the task to identify and name as many sections of a number of details of the drawings that we have been analysing for the past few weeks and then for the last hour or so we revisited the oval building which we had previously visited in week 3 to see the progress and learn and observe the different sections of the structure which were shown and explained by the head builder of the site. For the first task I realized that one of them was mine and so I was able to label all of the sections of it and by looking at mine and comparing with the other ones I was able to label sections of the other details that had the same symbols as mine and for the resulting sections and symbols I used the back of the subject guide to label them and although I was not able to name all of the sections of each detail I found this task very interesting as helped me learn and understand what each symbol and sections of these details meant, helping with future task where I will probably have to read drawings and details which I will definitely have in the line of work that I am pursuing to have.

In similarity when we went out to see the progress of the building that was being built near the pavilion oval, by listening and observing what the head builder had to say I learnt a many different and interesting things about the building and its construction process that will definitely help in the future. The builder explained what the building is going to look like and some of the things that they’ve done since the last time that we visited Firstly he talked about the front of the building: -

Most of the fabrication happens outside of the site making the building process much easier and faster and with less chance of problems to occur The building is mainly steel frame

-

The timber posts are made of laminated timber comb

-

The faรงade of the front of the building will have two windows, a double door than four windows and a double door and than two windows at the end The roof thickness is 50 thicker than normal as there are many different layers meaning lots of the features of the building had to be lifted The portal steel frames are fixated with the vertical timber by either screwing it together if possible or just by using the nail gun

-

We then walked around to the side were explained a little about the side LVL timber wall that they had already put up and a little about the plumbing.

The whole thing was very interesting and insightful.
