Dear 2021 JCI Quatre Bornes Local President Mariot Betombo, Dear 2021 JCI Quatre Bornes Local Board Members, Dear Members,Senators and Aspiring Members,

Greetings and I hope you are all doing well during this confinement.

We have all seen some drastic changes take place during the month of March, one week we were all living normally and in a flash we have seen everything turn upside down and our plan of action having the need to go through some drastic changes. One moment every meeting was physical and now we are completely virtual.

But we shall do what we do best; which is to adapt to every situation that is thrown onto us

JCI Quatre Bornes has some immense challenges this year, such as hosting the 2021 JCI Mauritius Public Speaking Championship as well as the 2021 JCI Mauritius Debate Championship. These two projects have gradually fallen in the past years and it is the objective this year to restore the honour of these two flagship events and make them shine once again.

As an organisation you should not hesitate to tap into the resources of your organisation, because let us not forget that JCI Quatre Bornes has produced two international officers in the past who, one is specialised in trainings and one with a strong focus in the JCI Active Citizen Framework. As an organisation you need to learn to leverage on the skills of your members; past and present to be able lay the foundations for the future.

I try my best to observe the effort every member is putting in the different initiative across JCI Mauritius and I would like to salute the efforts of JCI Quatre Bornes for

being quick also to respond to the Covid 19 pandemic and being part of the Covid Response Committee and whenever possible giving a helping hand across the different committees, hosting activities for independence day and participating in the activities of other local organisations to reinforce the brotherhood. I know the struggles of coping with limited resources, and for that, I say Thank you.

I believe that JCI Quatre Bornes has a huge potential, and we should never underestimate the power of the youth when they unite towards a common goal. I have heard the different projects that JCI Quatre Bornes has in the pipeline(Community wise) and I believe in the potential of the organisation to see this through by 31st December 2021. Make it your purpose to become relevant in your respective town and begin creating even greater impact once again, because everyone believes in your local organisation and everyone knows that you are capable of much more.

The team may be small, but being small is also a strength because it allows flexibility and the members have heart, and for me that is the best drive to help push the team forward. There will be a lot of disappointments along the way, but as an organisation we need to stay strong and keep pushing through the storm.

I would like to end it on my favourite quote by 2010 JCI President Roland Kweiman,

‘’La ou la plupart des jeunes voient

“To ge t h e r we m a ke i t o u r o b j e c t i ve t o t u r n a l l t h e s e c h a l l e n g e s i n t o oppor tunities.

Together we make it our objective to turn all these challenges into opportunities to see our local organisations shine once again.

Stay safe, stay at home, wash your hands and maintain social distancing.

Yours in JCI Spirit,

Philip Chang-ko 2021 National President JCI Mauritius
