Editor's

The whole Editorial Team is here today to thank every single person who helped us publish the 33rd issue of our City Buzz Online Magazine: your efforts are not to be overlooked.

This is much more appreciated in light of last year ' s special celebration and this year ' s exciting start.

While thanking you again, we would like to emphasize our willingness to showcase our team's fresh ideas, which are not to be extensive reports and/or articles, but rather short facts about how members are making concrete projects. Discover the human faces assisting these initiatives. Today, visibility is more crucial than ever, so is the way in which we express it. Dear Readers

As the 2023 Local President of JCI City Plus, it gives me great pleasure to write to you and share my message with you in our first newsletter of the year.

First and foremost, I would like to thank and recognize all City Plus members who, in their own special ways, encourage us to grow into future leaders and support us by attending our events, being constantly eager to offer suggestions and advice to enhance our JCI way of doing things, and giving significant and ongoing assistance to develop our leadership abilities.

Since the beginning of this year, we have launched the projects with enthusiasm and passion, and I thank all the local board members, project directors, aspiring members, senators, and other members who have helped us to make the first quarter impactful.

Our achievements so far: we have been able to connect with vulnerable children and women, entrepreneurs, and the general public thanks to Zenfans lespwar, four faces of Women, Heal to Lead, and speed networking. We have also been able to attract likeminded partners to cooperate with us to find better solutions. Last but not least, we had fun organising the projects and sharing good moments. Keep up the momentum and good work leaders; we are on the right track.

Excellence requires that you make efforts to stretch your boundaries, push your limits, and live to your highest potential, let’s keep our motto in mind, and continue to engage for excellence in our projects.

Yours in JCI spirit,

Dear Readers,

Greetings on behalf of JCI Grand Baie's Team!

It is with great pleasure and honor that I am addressing you my message as 2023 Local President of JCI Grand Baie for the first edition of the Newsletter of JCI City Plus

I would first and foremost like to thank the 2023 Local President Vanshinee Bhirugnath and Local Board Members of JCI City Plus for giving me the opportunity to share my message for the first edition of your newsletter.

My JCI journey started in September 2021 as aspiring member of JCI Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill together with Ayushi Ramchurn and Vivek Ujoodah.

We swore in as members of JCI Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill during the 2021 JCI Active Citizen's Day on the 11th December 2021. In June 2022 JCI Grand Baie received its partial affiliation from JCI Mauritius. We then started the registration of JCI Grand Baie as NGO with the Registrar of Associations.

The Charter Board Members of JCI Grand Baie was then established:

•2023 Local President Pankaj Puryag

•2023 Local Vice President Ayushi Ramchurn

•2023 Local Vice President Vivek Ujoodah

•2023 Local Secretary Khorrashmee Bholah

•2023 Local Treasurer Adarsh Noruthun

I am indeed a proud Jaycee who joined JCI to make a change in the World, to be able to build a better future with sustainable and impactful solutions, for my personal development and to create a New Chapter in the North of Mauritius with a dynamic and incredible team of friends working together to promote the JCI Mission and Vision.

To end up I would like to wish 2023 Local President Vanshinee and team of JCI City Plus all the best for great and impactful projects and look forward for collaboration avenues.

Dear Readers.

Greetings from JCI Quatre-Bornes!

Firstly I would like to thank Local President Vanshinee for having given me the opportunity to share a few words for the first edition of JCI City Plus Newsletter.

I am Veena Ramnauth, an MBA holder and an Analyst by profession. I joined JCI Quatre-Bornes in year 2020 and worked as Project Director on a number of projects which increased my interest to become a board member and take additional responsibilities. In year 2022, I served as the Local Vice President – Projects and this year I am the Local President of JCI QuatreBornes.

We have all chosen to be a part of this wonderful organisation due to different reasons, and whatever the reasons we should always be united and the energy we create is what allows us to achieve our individual as well as group goals.

I look forward to stay in touch and work together in the JCI spirit.

And what makes the (JCI) mission meaningful to them?

In a world where meritocracy is on decline, and nepotism is on the rise, being part of a fraternity, that provides development opportunities to young people, is indispensable, especially if you are a dreamer who wants to change the world.

One of the reasons I joined JCI, is because we harbor the same vision, creating a world of opportunities for young people from different social and academic backgrounds to create a world of plenty of opportunities and contributing to the society in a sustainable way, where the future generation would be able to savor the fruits of today's labor.

I hope to treasure what I am learning in JCI, at work, in life and in failure, and enjoy the journey as it is full of surprises.

"Everyone is a piece of the puzzle contributing to the success of the organization from Aspiring members to senators.”

To provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change

I was able to gain fresh skills and progress as a result of my involvement with JCI. As Local Treasurer, I keep this Mission in mind when considering financial options and making budget decisions for the organization. Keep in mind that nonprofit organizations are often held to a greater standard of accountability, honesty, and transparency than forprofit enterprises. Managing the funds of a Local Organization with the utmost integrity is critical to maintaining JCI's positive reputation.

This year I have been elected to serve as Local Vice President for Skills & Development.

My responsibilities are centred on organising training and mentoring programs as well as team building initiatives. My involvement also includes participating and coordinating our pipeline of local projects as well as flagship projects as regards to the Creative Young Entrepreneur program as well as the Debate Championship program.

I am striving to provide unique development opportunities to our members and aspiring members to take leadership positions. The objective is to enable them to become our leaders of tomorrow in their respective fields.

And what makes our (JCI) mission meaningful to them?

JCI's mission is to provide development opportunities that enable young people to develop the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to make a positive impact in their local communities, and to work together to create a better world.

This mission is meaningful to me because it recognizes the vital role that young people play in shaping the future, and provides them with the tools and resources to do so effectively.

JCI's mission is to provide leadership development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. This mission is meaningful to me because it recognizes the importance of investing in the future leaders of our society and empowering them to make a positive impact

By providing leadership development opportunities, JCI helps young people to develop the skills and confidence they need to create change and lead others towards a better future.

This can be especially significant in a world that is constantly changing and facing new challenges, as it allows young people to step up and take on important roles in their communities and beyond.

I firmly believe that JCI's mission is a powerful call to action that encourages young people to become leaders and make a difference in the world

Ultimately, JCI's mission empowers young people to be agents of positive change, which is essential for creating a more just, equitable, and sustainable world.

The JCI mission enables us to ponder on how as young active leaders, we can help to leave a lasting legacy behind us. It enables us to showcase irrespective of our background, we can unite to transcend the sovereignty of nations by working together to help solve the world's toughest problems.

I joined JCI in August 2019 as an aspiring member and after winning the JCI Mauritius Debate Championship in the same month, decided to jump into the deep end and became member in December. I became Local Vice-President (Community Development & PR) in 2020, then Treasurer in 2021, then Local President in 2022 and National Treasurer in 2023.

I am currently enrolled in a BSC (Hons) in Marketing from Université des Mascareignnes. As an aspiring member of JCI City Plus, I would like to share the knowledge I have gained as part of several community projects for the benefit of our Paradise Island.

Being an introvert in the marketing industry doesn't sound too fantastic, so I joined JCI in the hope that I could get over my shyness, develop my public speaking abilities, and become more self-assured. I see JCI as a chance for me to develop a variety of skills, one of which is the ability to assist those who are struggling with mental health problems.

In that respect, it is with immense pleasure that the souvenir magazine was launched on 27 December 2022 in the presence of various past local presidents.

We wish to thank you for your contribution to the souvenir magazine. The magazine will be shared across our network in more than 5,000 communities and 100+ countries.

2022 Local President Ben Venkatakistnen recognised the efforts of all those who contributed to the success of the organisation. The baton has been passed to 2023 Local President Vanshinee Bhirugnath to Engage for Excellence by creating a culture of engagement, loyalty, and high performance.

It was a real privilege for me to represent JCI Mauritius during the 2023 JCI Africa and Middle East (AME) National President Meeting in Nigeria. I sincerely appreciate the trust put in me to serve the organization as the Chief Delegate and be able to participate in multiple strategic discussions to shape our future as part of the AME, talked about the challenges and expectations and learned more about the Area and AMDEC plans.

The experience is even more enjoyable meeting with JCI members from across the AME region, as making connections is so simple. Words would not be enough to share the wonderful journey I had and all the adventures I enjoyed. Meeting lovely

souls who in one way or another brought me some valuable learnings and who were there for me all through.

That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations really took its whole sense not only in words but I lived it thanks to those who were there since day 1: Felix Hamayuwa from JCI Zambia, Basma Okbi from JCI Morocco, Djamo Dahirou from JCI Cameroon, Amorek Azonsou from JCI Benin, Alioune Badara Diop from JCI Senegal, Belinda Dongo from JCI DRCongo, Karine Rabarijohn from JCI Madagascar, amongst many other young leaders I had the opportunity to spend time with.

JCI Nigeria under the leadership of Abdullahi Bala Attairu was a wonderful host and now I am looking forward to the 2023 JCI Africa and Middle East Conference in Zimbabwe where I will have the opportunity to connect with all my friends from across AME including new friends I made in Nigeria as well as make new connections.

The organising team of JCI Zimbabwe under the leadership of Samuel Takudzwa Nehumba is working hard to make this event memorable for us. So, if you are still wondering, trust me you are going to have a great time sharing, learning, networking and upskilling, without no doubt having fun also. You can still register for the 2023 JCI AMEC and join the delegates of JCI Mauritius.

With an objective to bring a shift in the victim mindset of 35 women who suffered from domestic violence at Baie du Tombeau, an interactive session with a psychologist and a spiritual coach was carried out on Women’s Day. They were taught the importance of selfvalidation and self-acceptance. starting from small daily habits of repeating positive selfaffirmations such as ‘I am proud of myself’, and ‘I love myself’ to making bigger changes in life which will also impact their children.

On11thMarch2023

On 11th March 2023, JCI City Plus in collaboration with Digital Ratz hosted a Social Media Training session at the Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE). The training provided entrepreneurs as well as JCI members with a range of tips, tricks, and tactics to improve their social media skills, covering topics such as social media management, optimization of social media profiles, and utilizing social media for networking and business growth.

A day full of creativity, inspiration, and fun! This is how I would describe the day where we met and share some memories with a group of kids of Residence La Chaux.

Throughout the day, the children were able to express themselves and discuss their hopes and aspirations, as well as their interests in painting, writing, dancing, singing, and athletics. Not only do the youngsters want to enhance their artistic abilities, but they also want to increase their intellectual abilities. Their eagerness to learn and progress was evident.

The team also planned a theatrical class animated by Senator Yudhish and slam sessions by expert slammers for the children. These exercises enabled the youngsters to express themselves creatively, emotionally, and confidently.
