As a result of offering a variety of programs and course delivery options, and due to the diligent efforts of the faculty and staff, WKCTC has been named one of ten finalists for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the nation’s preeminent recognition of high achievement and performance in America’s community colleges.

WKCTC has earned a place on the Aspen Prize’s ten top finalists’ list four times –one of only two of the more than 1,100 community colleges in the nation to achieve that accomplishment.

ceremoniAl mAce The ceremonial mace of West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) was designed by veteran carpenter John Moore in April 2012. The mace is made of locally sourced cherry wood and is 40 inches long.

The head of the mace contains two bronze medallions professionally engraved with the image of Carson Hall on one side and with an image of a lantern on the other side. West Kentucky’s mace was designed to represent the college’s commitment to excellence as well as to commemorate and pay respect to the foundations that made WKCTC what it is today.

F eAtured s peAKer Matt Snow Executive Director of Facilities Baptist Health Paducah Matt Snow is the executive director of facilities at Baptist Health Paducah since 2014 where he manages 80 people in engineering / maintenance, bio-medical engineering, laundry, security, valet, and switchboard. Mr. Snow has previous experience as an HVAC sales engineer and a consulting engineer / project manager.

Mr. Snow earned a master of business administration degree from Western Governors University in 2016, a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the University Kentucky in 2008, and an associate in science degree from West Kentucky Community and Technical College in 2006.

He is certified as a professional engineer, certified as an energy manager, and a LEED accredited professional.

Snow was recently named the 2017 Young Leader of the Year by the Four Rivers Business Journal, the 2017 Regional Leader by the American Society of Healthcare Engineering, and a Kentucky Colonel in 2016. He participated in the Leadership Kentucky program in 2016 and the Leadership Paducah program in 2013.

Snow has served as the co-chair of Paducah Young Professionals, the president of the Leadership Paducah Foundation, president-elect of the West Kentucky Regional Chamber Alliance, and a board member for United Way and the Kentucky Society of Healthcare Engineers. A Paducah resident, Snow and his wife, Keisha, a nurse practitioner at Lourdes, have a 3-year-old son, Blake.

n urse p inning In changing times, one symbol of the nursing profession stands unique, unchanging, and unmistakable. It is the nursing school pin.

The pinning ceremony is a time honored tradition, rich in history and deep in meaning. From its beginnings, as the Maltese cross worn by the crusader Knights who provided emergency care on the battlefield, to the gold and silver badges presented to nursing graduates for over a hundred years, the nursing school pin is still a symbol of a profession committed to the art and science of caring for others.

The West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) associate degree nursing pin has a gold or silver circular center that displays the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) official seal. The circular pin is set in the middle of an eight-point cross inscribed with WKCTC, A.D.N., RN and 1964, the year of the first graduating nursing class. The practical nursing pin is inscribed with WKCTC and the letters L, P, and N. The inscriptions tie both the founding college history to the present, as well as the Maltese eight-point cross of the crusader knights to these graduates. The pin the nursing graduates will receive today represents a rite-of-passage, becoming pinned to all other nurses who have begun the journey before them.
