PRESENTER PROFILE Dr. Daniel Funk is a Professor in the Sport and Recreation Management Program and Washburn Senior Research Fellow for the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Temple University. He also holds a joint appointment in the Fox School of Business, where he serves as PhD program advisor for the Tourism and Sport concentration.

Dr. Funk’s research focuses on consumer experiences through investigating the internal and external factors that shape involvement in sport, event, tourism, and leisure industry sectors. He has participated in over 20 grant-funded studies and published more than 90 research articles in variety top academic journals, published three textbooks in the area of sport marketing and contributed numerous book chapters to edited books.

He has been recognized as a Research Fellow by the Sport Marketing Association and the North American Society for Sport Management and was named to the Dean’s Research Honor role for outstanding research in 2012 and 2013. Dr. Funk also serves on journal editorial boards and is the current editor of Sport Marketing Quarterly. His work has been adopted by industry to understand the stage-based development of involvement and has developed a segmentation framework that is currently being used by a professional sport league to develop marketing and advertising strategy and assess return on investment. He has been active in working with and developing PhD students over the last 15 years.

Dr. Funk earned his PhD and Master’s degree in Sport Management from The Ohio State University and his Bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of Kansas.
