By Janette Getui If there’s one thing I certainly have a Ph.D. in it must be reinventing myself and being brave enough to choose paths others would never dare.

Today I want to show you how to successfully reinvent yourself because in our dramatically changing world, you’ll get stuck in deep mud if you don’t.

There was a time in my life when all I did was wishful thinking. I wanted to end struggle in my life as well as help out my community. The good life was what my heart desired and I wanted financial independence but I kept waiting for an external aid.

I was always hoping for things to be better in future and my “good life” always seemed to be tied or dependent upon the actions of another.

You know what I realized?

That as long as I waited for my future to find me, I was always going to continue waiting in vain. I’ve spent most of my life feeling lost, unwanted, confused, inadequate and helpless.

Always as a victim in this world born in the wrong place without any chance of salvation. The more I continued to accept this reality, the more sad and angry I became because I was always getting tangled up in situations I didn’t want.

It often feels like those of us who’ve grown up in the slums and the ghettos of this world become addicts of pain, shame and guilt.

We get so accustomed to identifying with victimhood that it becomes the only approach we take in life.

Whenever we meet someone who dares challenge that identity we get defensive,we justify and point fingers.

I’ve been there, done that and it got me nothing but empty pockets, a broken heart and anger that could torch an entire city.

Unlike most ghetto children however, I was brave enough and strong enough to go face to face with my biggest fears. One of those fears was that of dissolving the inferiority complex we get from such a lifestyle.

I got fed up and dared to believe that maybe, just maybe…I am not a victim.

Life has never been the same for me and while it hasn’t been easy, the only reason I can create this piece of information for you is because I know how worthwhile this task is.

You most likely have a very different story from mine but nonetheless, it’s 2016 and we both know our civilization is entering the dawn of a new era. I don’t care how good or bad your life has been so far, changes are at hand.

That’s why you must make it a priority to reinvent yourself now. To thrive and lead your family and loved ones into the kind of future you’ve dreamed of, this can’t be considered a luxury; it’s a necessity.

Change is the only constant attribute in nature: This isn’t to say change hasn’t been happening. There’s always been change in your life, so to some extent whether willingly or unwillingly, you have reinvented yourself. Whenever there’s been a major shift in your life, you had to reinvent yourself to keep up.

Unfortunately most adults do it only when it’s forced upon them. This makes it very difficult to actually master the art of learning how to successfully reinvent yourself because just consider this: When your child is forced to study because they risk being punished severely, the learning experience is very different from when they just pick up the book for the sheer joy of growing intellectually.

The same holds true when it comes to reinventing yourself. It is not supposed to be a one-time thing. It’s also not supposed to be devastating. However, if you haven’t attuned yourself to it and only do it when the doctor gives you an ultimatum or your boss forces you to resign, then chances are much suffering awaits you.

In this wonderful game of life that we are playing as human beings, we have two choices. We always have the choice of learning by spiritual unfoldment or of learning by painful experiences.

It is your own fault if you choose to learn through painful experience.

But since we’ve been conditioned to perceive life from such a limited view, mourning and sorrow have been the only way for us to seek truth. The opportunity you have as my friend and reader of this article lies in being able to try a new formula. A new approach for your business and the lifestyle you want to experience in our current times.

Being able to successfully reinvent yourself means opening up the floodgates of all the goodness and prosperity you desire. It means finally setting up a foundation that can sustain whatever legacy you desire to leave behind. It’s about thriving in your personal and professional life. No better time has presented itself than now to accomplish all that and more.

If you’re feeling stuck, anxious or worried about your current conditions start by noticing the kind of conversations you’re identified with. You won’t be able to move forward and successfully execute your goals if you’re still having mental and physical conversations that contradict your desires.

Reinventing yourself is not about switching from an inferior personality to superior one!

It’s about molding your personality to reconnect with your individuality. When your personality aligns with and serves your soul’s mission in this world, everything else will fall into place.

To make this very broad statement more practical, we have to lay down some basics that you can implement starting today. For this to work we must take into considering your physical and non-physical aspects. Any student of mental science knows for any full manifestation there must be a perfect alignment between the inner and outer realms.

The same way there cannot be an inside without an outside, no true transformation will happen in your life if you only focus on one and neglect the other.

It is for this reason that I want to break down my suggestions into these two broad aspects. First, you’ll learn what you must do to successfully reinvent yourself and thrive from the inner aspect of your existence. Lastly we’ll conclude with some outward action steps you can take.

Get In Touch With Your Real Identity: “We have to modify our identities as we go through life”, says Ravenna Helson, a professor of psychology at the university of California, Berkley. She directed the Mills Study, which followed some 120 women over 50 years. The study was examining personality traits, social influence and personal development.

It proved in the process that it’s never too late to successfully reinvent yourself and thrive in any and all areas. “Even at 60,” Helson says, “people can resolve to make themselves more the people they would like to become. In the Mills Study, about a dozen women showed substantial positive personality changes from the ages 60 to 70.

Of course being the kind of individual I am, my declaration is that one must be wise enough to get an early start so let me take this a step further. Unless you get in touch with your true identity, the flexibility of getting a makeover will prove extremely difficult.

As you get to know the truth about who you really are, you will come to know how simple it is for you to be whatever you choose to be at any given point in time.

Thus let me share with you a little secret: You exist in Body – Mind – Spirit.

I don’t know how much or little you understand these three domains but the sooner you acquaint yourself with them, the better. The image you hold of yourself largely depends on the identity you’re attached to and believe in. This in turn determines just how logical it can seem for you to successfully reinvent yourself and thrive regardless of age, location, ethnicity, background or career.

Question: What identity are you living by? A false identity will crete a false image and keep you stuck in limitation.

Properly Utilise These Two Powerful Tools: Attention & Intention: Most of us are really good at talking about transformation and mindfulness. Affirmations, meditation and visualization are getting a lot of airtime and this is wonderful. But are you really using the power of intention and attention in service to your dreams?

I find that often when a student of personal development comes to me for help it’s only because they’ve skipped over this part. They’ve done a lot of the theoretical stuff but have no idea how to apply attention and intention consciously. If you want to successfully reinvent yourself, you’re going to have to master this.

Each time you’re talking about what you “should do” or “have to do”, you’re betraying a hidden belief active within you. It’s the belief that you don’t have any choice in the matter. It’s actually the victimhood paradigm in disguise.

I do my best to kill this kind of language in my home. My daughter can never get away with using such talk even with schoolwork. The reason I pay a lot of attention on the language we use is because there is power in the spoken word.

The truth is, you always have a choice. Even when you’re doing things you don’t love, that’s a choice you’ve made and it will bear corresponding consequences.

If you desire to successfully reinvent yourself and thrive, then pay close attention to what you’re noticing. What you’re talking about and what kind of intentions are you making? This isn’t a sugary affirmation, it’s about taking full ownership of your mental and emotional home. If you don’t yet know this, your mental and emotional states are what determine the quality of your manifestations

Give Up Trying To Influence or Impress people: Many of us are approaching entrepreneurship from the mindset of “getting”. It’s still about social gratification and psychological manipulation and ruling over others. That old paradigm of trying to influence others as well as impress them will not bring about authentic success or fulfillment. It’s actually stemming from a paradigm that many parents condition their kids into. Most adults play the power game over their children…

So as kids we believed that the only way to get what we wanted was to charm and manipulate others. When we moved from that perception we got drowned in the other awful sin. Comparing ourselves to others and worrying about opinions. For most children, that manipulation or blackmail comes in the form of tantrums.

None of these beliefs will serve you as an adult or empower you to get the results you want now that you’re on your own.

You don’t need to impress anyone so please stop following that common path and instead learn to be yourself. If you really desire to thrive even if you’re starting from scratch, focus on being of value.

Focus on doing your best and making a difference in your world whichever way you can. Concentrating on self-expression, self-actualization and service to others is the best way to create a prosperous lifestyle.

Question: Are you powered and motivated by the need to receive praise and validation from others? Do you often catch yourself thinking of how you can better “influence or manipulate” others into liking you?

Develop Resilience: Resilience is a virtue and quality of character that you want to start cultivating. No thriving entrepreneur has gotten where they are without this quality. To become a thriving entrepreneur whether this is your first time or not, requires a special combination of boldness and true humility. I cautiously use the term humility because I know our society misuses the term.

Problems and obstacles are guaranteed to happen as you go after your new lifestyle. Some of them will be difficult and may knock you off course; the important thing, however, is that you learn from these difficulties, never lose focus and always get back up with strength and courage. Reinvention is a process that could take years. Don’t overwhelm yourself by getting consumed on the big picture. Just take it one step at a time no matter how small.

Fall down seven times, get up eight! That's the kind of attitude you need to have as you move toward your new life and business.

Create a new self-image: Develop a new image of yourself to serve as your guide to your new goal. Remember that you are actually pulling yourself away from your old comfort zones, habits, roles and self-perceptions.

It can be as difficult as kicking a vice, but a new self-image will always remind you of why you’re trying to change. Your manifestations will never outgrow the kind of self-image that you hold as it acts like the container that holds your success and prosperity. Remember that you must never confuse your self-image with your identity.

The self-image originates from your ego and is the personality mask that you've grown accustomed to since birth. But it in no way interferes with your true identity - or at least it's not supposed to! Learning how to create a self-image that serves your soul and desires in this world is the perfect balance you want to strive for now that you're going after a new life. Do not compromise on either side and if you follow the right path, you'll soon realise it's quite simple to have everything you've always dreams of and then some.

Cultivate True Faith Based On Understanding: Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

- Hebrew 11: 1-3 There isn’t a brilliant scientist today who could argue with the essence of that statement.

You are making the choice to transform the conditions you face and you want a fast, guaranteed way that will enable you to successfully reinvent yourself and thrive right? This is the only way to do it!

Nothing in our world is randomly created. There are subtle universal laws at work so your ability to become the master of your fate and the captain of your soul, depends largely on your active faith. This is something few in the world automatically inherit so regardless of how life has treated you thus far, make an effort to learn simple ways of cultivating true faith.

I won’t go into details here of how that’s accomplished however, if you want to have that conversation, schedule in some live time and it will be my joy to share all that’s been divinely revealed to me. Bottom line is, you must acquire a significant measure of faith if you truly desire to thrive now and in future.

Give up living from your personality The word “persona” is derived from the Latin word for mask. Your personality is not you. It’s also a trap.

When we repeat the same stories, embrace certain traits, and declare our patterns unchangeable, we’re just collecting evidence to prove we’re consistent. It holds us back.

Kids don’t have this problem. They reinvent themselves from moment to moment: “Now I’m Mighty Mouse!

Now I’m Wonder Woman!” If it’s more fun than what they were a moment ago, they become it!

Replace personality with purpose. Then you can be whoever you need to be based on what you are creating right now. That's where your true freedom and real living will be found. As long as you are in limitation, you will never experience real healing, restoration or freedom.

Time to set yourself free!

Create your vision and the story that you want to tell in this lifetime: The more you understand what life is, the more you’ll realize what a glorious gift you’ve been given. This lifetime that you’re experiencing is meant to unfold a unique destiny and unleash a one of a kind expression that can never and will never be done by anyone else. In other words, this is your movie and it’s supposed to be a fun, adventurous, romantic fairy tale. The power to make it so lies within you.

That’s why you ache for a new beginning. The good news is, you came to earth with a perfect divine plan for experiencing the grandest life ever. All you need do is tune into that part of you that already knows this and request for that blueprint so you can get to work!

Rather than foolishly expecting change to come at a distant future, I invite you to sit quietly, find your stillness and design the kind of lifestyle and business you really want. Bring into clear focus that image and in a relaxed manner, carve out mentally, with all the emotions you can garner, the story you want to attach to the rest of your life. It doesn’t matter what kind of story you’ve been telling in the past, it only matters the story you design now.

Once you have painted that design in the canvas of your imagination, step back into this threedimensional space and physically write down the vision that came to you

Create Your Own Support Structure: If there has ever been a time when you needed reliable people around you it must be now as you strive to reinvent yourself. The fact that many of us are building ourselves from the ground up means that we need a lot of courage. We must get really good at overcoming and maintaining unwavering faith.

Some days, it will feel impossible because the devil from your old mindset will be on your case. Without a strong support structure, mentors, a community and people you consider friends, it’ll be easy to backslide into your old ways. There’s always that gravitational pull toward the familiar whenever we seek new horizons. That support structure is what will make sure you don’t trample the seeds that are incubating. You can only successfully reinvent yourself and thrive in life and business when you set yourself up for success. I have found especially with women who are seeking time and money freedom that a good community and lots of support is essential.

Continued Education: This is one many adults still struggle with but I’m going to make it short and sweet for you. If you’re not growing, you’re dying!

As long as you’re not growing, your business isn’t going to grow either. And even more devastating is that since you don’t consciously grow and improve yourself, your children won’t do it either. In this new economy, those with the curious, passionate growth mindset will be the winners.

There’s no need to fool yourself into thinking you can successfully reinvent yourself and thrive in a big way without education. I don’t mean formal education. I mean continuously increasing your awareness of self and continuously improving upon the skills that you know help you to deliver value.

We have distorted the term education in society so much so that very few truly know its meaning. Educating yourself is about drawing out from within you something you didn’t even know you had. In this particular instant since you want to create a new lifestyle for yourself, continued education is paramount.

To develop and enhance your mental faculties is the only way you will be equipped enough to master your mind and ultimately your circumstances. The other side of that coin is about continuously developing your business and leadership skills so you can keep up with the fast changing global market of today. I don’t know how much thought you’ve given this but I suggest you begin today because as you know, tomorrow is being shaped by the choices you make today.

Take some action toward creating the support and resources you need to successfully reinvent yourself and thrive in this modern society. Then, keep asking yourself: What can I do in this moment to keep moving toward the direction of my new lifestyle? You don’t need to see the whole picture, you don’t need to have all the answers. All you need is one baby step forward taken consistently, courageously and faithfully.
