Turrill, the hinged lid with initials ‘A.R.B’ within bands of scrolling flowers and foliage, the mahogany and coromandel interior with leather covered light and ink boxes, ‘Coombs patent 1844’, each with a gilt brass handle, flanking a pen tray, the hinged slope revealing a fitted two handled lift-out tray and with the makers trade label inscribed ‘J. TURRILL, Dressing Case & Buhl, MANUFACTURER, 52, NEW BOND STREET, LONDON.’ with a false secret front revealing three drawers each with an ivory handle, 15.4cm high, 45.6cm wide, 26.5cm deep. £250-350

A Victorian black leather gentleman’s shaving box by Lund, the fitted mahogany interior with pouches and a mirror inset to the lid with ivory handled blades, scissors, tweezers, a corkscrew, the majority stamped ‘W. LUND’, with a leather cased hone, glass scent bottles, a needle case, compartments for brushes and two silver boxes and covers, one for a shaving brush the other for wax, each with a crest of a unicorn’s head out of a coronet, hallmarked ‘JD’ LONDON 1841, the leather stamped ‘LUND FLEET STREET LONDON’, 7.2cm high, 26.5cm wide, 10.4cm deep. £150-250 William Lund set up his manufactory and retail shop at 23 & 24 Fleet Street, London in around 1835 joining his father Thomas Lund in business. 363 363. A William IV tooled leather writing box by Bramah & Prestage, with a sunken brass handle inscribed ‘W. H. RICHARDS’, the flame mahogany veneered interior with a writing surface and a twin lidded compartment the underside with pen loops and a letter pouch a further hinged lidded compartment with a lift-out tray and an inkwell compartment, with a green printed maker’s label inscribed ‘BRAMAH & PRESTAGE, 124 Piccadilly, MANUFACTURERS, By Appointment, To their Royal Highnesses THE DUCHESS of KENT and THE PRINCESS VICTORIA’, the brass lock stamped ‘I. BRAMAH 124 PICCADILLY’, 9.5cm high, 35.5cm wide, 25.3cm deep. £200-300 Bramah & Prestage set up a partnership and took out a lease on premises at 124 Piccadilly in 1836 and they parted company in 1841. W.H.Richards (1816-1885), a mining engineer at Cuiaba and Morro Velhos gold mines in Brazil during the 1840s. Perhaps this was a 21st birthday present before he set out overseas.
